Do you guys have any recommendations for a task/project manager with an iOS companion app? I have a Things (http://itunes.apple.com/app/things/id407951449?mt=12) for Mac license, but don't want to shell out $40 more for the iOS apps.

Nested projects with tasks, alerts, etc. would be nice.

Remember the Milk is good and cheap. You can access it anywhere and if you have a paid subscription they have an iPhone app as well that does offline syncing.

I ended up going with MailMate because it's the only mail client I've had that stays under 1 on the energy saver tool in Activity Monitor.

Merging folders is a pain and cannot be accomplished through finder, you need to rely on ditto or rsync.

drat my 2014 rMBP feels SNAPPY again. It was starting to feel a little sluggish near the end there but this is pretty amazing now. I don't know if Metal is helping with this, but Spaces/Exposé/Mission Control feels MUCH more responsive. I know there was general unhappiness about the graphics performance of the 13" rMBP at times and I was one of those who complained. This legitimately feels like a new machine. Wonder if it's just a placebo effect of the upgrade or whether I'm actually noticing these changes.

Going to install it on a 2007 iMac tomorrow, that should be a pretty good test on REAL lovely hardware.

Wha-what? How could a 2014 rMBP possibly be sluggish? It's not even close to out of date. My Early 2011 MBP is still rolling along just fine and snappy!

This came up earlier in the thread but BoxCryptor + Any Cloud Service (I use OneDrive's free 1 TB with an Office 365 sub) is a great way to put things in the cloud and protect them. I would move away from anything that uses dropbox as its only sync option. I don't think I have anything left that uses it.

i use sharemouse for this exact use case and it works well, be sure to set a special toggle key for when you roll from one monitor to another so you don't accidentally switch monitors in a fullscreen game or w/e (i use shift)

Marginally confused about using brew cask to get the latest versions of applications.

code:
$ brew cask upgrade
==> No Casks to upgrade
But then...

code:
$ brew cask upgrade firefox
==> Upgrading 1 outdated package:
firefox 71.0 -> 72.0.2
What's the command I need to be running for it to find that Firefox is outdated without me having to name it?

cask ignores any casks with auto updaters when running the upgrade command, if you want it to include those pieces of software you need to add the --greedy flag, so as seen below:

brew cask upgrade --greedy
