How about a link for Display Maid(my app) in the OP under window management?

I know someone brought this up earlier but I didn't see if it was solved. iWork apps start ignoring the keyboard after a couple seconds. Clicking on the desktop and then back will get you a couple key clicks before ignoring it again. Is this just a bug, should I use time machine to roll back to the older version. I don't seem to remember having problems before I updated.

Edit: Don't bother restoring older versions of iWork the apps will just crash. I swear They were working just fine on the GM for 3 weeks before the iWork update hit. My suggestions is if you haven't updated iWork yet... don't.

Edit 2: After re-updating iWork everything seems to be working fine, huzzah!

When I open an HTML or XML document in TextEdit (in Lion), make a change, and then save it changes the file extent ion to .txt. Is there a way to stop this from happening because it's bugging the poo poo out of me...

If it's anything like 10.6's prefs:

Yeah, that option is still there and unchecked, but it's still changing .html or .xml to .txt when I save. This isn't when I do a save as (which is actually missing from TextEdit in 10.7), but a normal save. I get no choice in the matter, it just changes the file extension and I have to go change it back in the finder.

OK So a new bug. In Snow Leopard I had my main account set with no password. This occasionally posed a problem when I'd want to use the sudo command in the terminal, but the work around was to temporarily set a password and then later blank it out again.

Now I'm in Lion, which was installed as a upgrade and not a clean install. I go to change my password and I'm being told my old password, which should be blank, is incorrect. Some searching finds a couple people complaining that they can't set a blank password in Lion, but so far no one with my problem.

So now I have 2 problems, I can't change my password so I can use the sudo command in the terminal right now, and then if someone can help me fix this problem I won't be able change my password back to being blank.

edit: So I panicked, the passwd command in terminal worked, it also allowed me to set my password to being blank again. Please don't hack me.

A Quick cross post:

I'm in need of feed back for my Window Management app "Display Maid" so I started my own thread with promo codes begging for feedback and Mac App Store reviews.

Other Thread posted:

Display Maid is an app that saves and restores window sizes and positions, mainly for MacBook (air/pro) users who have an external display and are frustrated when they unplug that display and all their windows get randomly thrown about on their main display.

Okay, so I gave MP4Tools' pass-through settings a try. It wound up creating an 8GB movie file that wouldn't sync with the iPad. What am I missing?

In the interim, I found iFlicks, and re-encoding with the Apple TV 2 presets creates an iPad-compatible ~720p video. Problem: it takes for-Goddamn-ever.

Don't know if you bought iFlicks or just have the demo, but you should also check out my app Magic Media Marker. A demo can be downloaded from my website. it transcodes and doesn't do a mkv -> mp4 container change (yet, it's on the list but far down it) but it's much cheaper and better geared towards automation.

If you guys head on over to the AppleTV Thread I've posted a bunch of promo codes for Magic Media Marker. (Converting/Metadata tagging videos for iTunes/iDevices)

They should just go back to using numbering for OS versions. Using the cat names, which used to be just internal development code names, bugs me for some reason. I can only ever remember the last 2-3 names anyway. If someone tells me they're still using panther or tiger I have no idea what version number that is any more.

With Steve gone now they should retire cat names at the very least. Merge iOS and Mac OS into AppleOS 1.0, that's where they are going anyway.

What's the best way to end up with a single m4v/MP4 file from a DVD that's split across chapters? I have a music tutorial DVD which Handbrake detects as made up of 11 chapters, and I want the whole thing in a single file for my Apple TV.

Thanks

It should default to converting all chapters, but you can check right next to the "Title" drop down, it will say Chapters ___ through ____. It's hard to find being right towards the top of the window in plain view, but you might be able to find a screen shot with google image search.

Really I think that Apple should bear most of the blame here. It would be nice for Blizzard to release a fully Intel version of D2 and I'm sure they would if they thought it would be worth it but removing Rosetta from Lion was definitely a dick move by Apple.

Serious dick move to actually phase out old obsolete technologies. If I had my way Lion would be a super over bloated mess of 68k, ppc, and intel code so I could run Mac Paint, AppleWorks, Cyberdog, and Mario Teaches Typing.

Yeah, I think you're right on both accounts. What it is, an acquaintance texted and said "hey, my computer crapped out and my old versions of these programs didn't transfer to my new laptop." So she wants to borrow my laptop, which isn't a problem, but I'm thinking to myself that if she's got a dead hard drive that wouldn't necessitate a whole new laptop, you know? Her Macbook died to the point where it needs replaced and the hard drive died?

Edit: Haha, what the gently caress, nevermind it all. I told her sure, come on over anytime and use mine (she specifically needs photoshop, indesign, and word), and she writes back "Wow, you can really put all of those on my new computer?! Thanks!"

So yeah...it's basically all over the place. I'm writing her back now to let her know there's been a big misunderstanding. I'll still tell her to try and download/user her old serials though, that should work.

I'm pretty sure you're missing some kind of opportunity to turn this into sex... You could even let your installers run while you make your move, and then when you're done be like, "oh, it's asking for your serial numbers, let me know what they are and I'll type them in... Oh you dont have any? Shucks I guess is isn't going to work out, here is your laptop back." Then you don't have to worry about being guilty of .

I've heard all this talk about this flashback Trojan, how to check for it and remove it... But nowhere can I find out what it does. Does anyone know?

I just recently starting getting spam email sent from my mother's email address (yahoo). Pissed me off too because I've kept that email spam free for over 4 years. I told her she didn't have to worry about a virus on her Mac and to change her password. Did I lie to my mother?
