Well, she went out and got a new macbook. I may or may not decide to have a little fun and try and repair this. In the meantime, What is the interface of the 1TB HDDs? I need to get the information off of her old HDD, and I'd like to order the wire with all the tools I'll need to get inside of it. I'm assuming I'll need some external enclosure. Will any 2.5" enclosure work?

I remember one time I came back to my desk and had gotten a text 2 minutes earlier saying they had some in stock. I went to the Apple Store and it was sold out. Thankfully a few hours later some became available again and I was able to grab the base i7. Now it's sporting a 1TB 850EVO and 16 GB and flies.

Recently bought a BenQ BL3200PT monitor and am quite happy with it. I'm currently trying to hook a 15" Macbook Pro to it, while simultaneously having my main PC hooked up to the HDMI port, which means I have to use either the Displayport port or the DVI port on the monitor The problem I am seeing is that: A) The displayport option doesn't work, at ALL. No signal is detected with the cable I bought (HDMI on the Macbook to Displayport on the monitor.) B) If I use a thunderbolt to DVI adapter and connect a DVI cable to the DVI port on the monitor, I can only output video at 1920x1200 resolution (and can't change it to anything higher on the Macbook). The same is true if I output from HDMI to DVI and connect to the monitors DVI port. Is it me, or does this seem to be something with the Macbook and not the monitor itself?

I just bought a secondhand 30" ACD for my 13" Pro and it came with one, fortunately.

Bleh, okay, that explains that, but I also have a HDMI -> DVI-D adapter (the Apple one) that also fails to output full resolution out of the HDMI port. If I use HDMI directly I can output at full resolution. Dafaq? Edit: NM, answered my own question. HDMI -> DVI doesn't support dual link DVI Wicaeed fucked around with this message at 05:05 on Oct 12, 2015 |

The MacBook Thunderbolt port ouputs a native (mini)DP signal. I'm not sure why you're trying to make this so complicated with converting the signal when you can just get a miniDP to DP cable and use that.

Does anyone else have issues with USB 3.0 hard drives disconnecting randomly in Mac OS X? I ran into this problem intermittently on an older drive, and have now been seeing this on my brand new Samsung T1. Not sure if this is a Mac issue or a USB 3.0 port issue (cable not quite making contact) or a specific device issue... it's a huge pain! (Especially for my main use case with this SSD - live performances with music and video stored on the external. Random disconnecting can not happen!)

As soon as unplugged the drives from that hub everything was back to working fine. I ended up replacing the hub and haven't had an issue since.

I have a 7-port USB 3.0 hub that kept disconnecting drives, my phone, etc, I think it's a flaw with a particular VIA chip that was popular at the time. Pluggable is awesome though, they sent a new one for free even though my defective unit was two years out of warranty.

They're still C2D though, and will be considered vintage soon enough (the mid-2009 13" MBP's are already in vintage status). Still rocking my late 2009 unibody. Maxed out with 8GB of ram and an SSD, it's still a usable machine especially since El Capitan feels much less laggy on it than Yosemite. Either way though, it's time for a new computer as soon as the Skylake models start coming out.

I did with my TM drive, but I replaced both the cable from the hub to the computer and then the hub and it went away. If you're plugging directly into the port on the laptop, I'd probably check the cable first. Other question, is it only happening on one machine? Or multiple? Because that should help right there. If it's happening across the board, it's probably the cable (but could, less likely, be the drive itself). If it's only on one machine, it might be the port (try a different one).

It's not happening on my old MacBook Pro (USB 2.0), it is happening on my retina (USB 3.0), and on my Hackintosh it doesn't work at all with the onboard USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 is ok). Others drives do work on the Hack' USB 3.0. Have you had any issues with your T1? Does it overheat at all? I'm contemplating returning it and doing a 2.5" 850 EVO + MiniPro enclosure instead; but I do like how small the T1 is.

I'm not a fan of apples peripherals in general (I still use an old corded mouse) but really the non-serviceable batteries isn't that surprising. Yes, some will come back with dud batteries. But how is non-serviceable batteries any different from any of their other products? You haven't been able to remove an iPod battery since the days of the click wheel, and removable computer batteries died out in what, 2008? If you're an absolute power user who is behind their computer 12 hours a day you might put enough load cycles on it to kill it over a few years, but I think it's been pretty loving clear for a while now that apple has been targeting the general use demographic. For most people I'm sure the peripherals will outlast the computer that they came with.

How hard would it be to get a freaking custom 970 (not m) board made for your bigger desktops. It's a desktop, what does it matter if you have an extra quarter inch in thickness.
