Games will officially be art when there is a game that is outsider art, and Platform Masters shall deliver *rubs forelegs together, mantis-like*

Funkygenome posted:I remember reading the encyclopedia dramatica page about him. Even they were pretty nice when talking about him. It's a combination of the fact that he comes off as a friendly person who realizes he's unusual and neither brags about it nor wallows in it, and that nothing about him is truly loathsome (like there's nothing about touching kids wedged in between pizza degreasing techniques and explanations of why he likes Bubsy) It's almost striking how not terrible he is

Fonzarelli posted:I think its totally awesome. Most internet crazy people seem to get obsessed with the characters. He sees completely through any character and story, and just completely gets into the game's systems instead. Its much better than people crying over Aeries. There's sort of a lot of space between "cries when Aeris dies" and "gives characters numbers instead of names" though. You know, the space that 95% of the people who play RPGs are in. Uli's numbering thing is sort of weird.

Vertigus posted:Disgaea isn't like Final Fantasy games, which have some semblance of a reasonable story. You have to try really hard to get into the Disgaea story and give a poo poo about any of the characters beyond "Oh, cute penguin!" Well, yeah I get that, though he also does the number thing in (at the very least) Might & Magic 2 as well. Again, not a lot of story there, and characters with no personality by default... but it's like regular human behavior to personify and characterize things that are supposed to resemble people and give them individual names and identify them as he or she instead of "it" or "that thing". In Disgaea maybe you name your Ninja Ziggy and pick a weapon and that's the extent to which you characterize him and then you notice he always dodges heals and never dodges offensive magic and you start going "god dammit Ziggy" to yourself every time it happens and he develops a "personality" to you, even if it has nothing to do with the actual plot or game world. It's the same sort of mentality that causes him to describe characters in Legend of the Elemental Masters with numerical characteristics. I'm not saying it's some kind of indicator that Uli is a dangerous sociopath, nor do I think he should be mocked for it, but it's just another one of his unusual quirks. homeless snail posted:I think its part of his appeal. Yes, he's incompetent, but it doesn't really bother him, and he has enough self confidence to spin failures into successes. I've noticed this as well; he's curiously bad at some aspects of the games he plays all the time or at noticing things that seem obvious to others. I think part of it is also that he simply doesn't care to play well. He has more fun either playing outside the game's rules and setting his own goals, or figuring out how to most efficiently exploit them. A shrubbery! posted:Though he says he's a vegetarian, he mentions using his de-greasing method on double cheeseburgers. It's always possible he's talking about something like soy burgers. I get the impression he really, really likes cheese. Dusz posted:From what I've read, they seem to be pretty tolerant but not the pampering enablers that CWC's parents are. They've put him on a pretty strict budget, I think uli got a PS2 only a few years ago. It's also possible that strict budget is the result of them not having as much money as CWC's family. I agree that his parents seem to care for him, though. Zombies' Downfall fucked around with this message at Jul 24, 2011 around 23:40 |

Constantine XI posted:Are cream_filling and owlofcreamcheese the same person or something? Anyway I can think of a few things that Conan can do that ulllilillia can't: While I agree that misrepresenting Uli as a visionary genius doesn't do anybody any favors, I also have no compelling reason to think anybody on this forum can walk up stairs normally
