Zatanna's dad was a magician, so she became one. Also, she's know Batman since she was 4 and he was 9. That's pretty much all you need to know.

Dropped Teen Titans because gently caress Scott Lobdell and his 'if you don't like it's YOU who are sexist' bullshit. The book itself is ok but he's got no subtlety at all. 'I could FALL IN LOVE with THIS WOMAN'. OK yeah thanks for the setup. I'm gonna guess it's 3 issues til they take care of Tim Drake's pesky virginity, if he's bothered to leave it in place at all. Also, sock-tits everywhere. Dropped JLD because I just wasn't feeling it. Art was pretty though. Dropped New Guardians from my pull but may keep picking it up at random. I love Kyle Rayner Hard to break away.Flash is beautiful and Manapul did a great job executing Barry's new think-fast abilities. Too many words, but other than that, a great book thus far.

The first one tells a new reader everything they need to know about the character to get started - it's fun, it's sexy, it's a little absurd and it immediately identifies her as a magician of some sort. The second could belong to any random goth girl circa 1998. Pointless.

(This problem sidesteps the perhaps important question of whether anybody in a world with honest-to-goodness metahumans and magic would want to go see a stage magician's show. I imagine that they would but that to be successful you'd end up with more of a Penn & Teller attitude in general where they're directly telling the audience 'now we are going to fool you without using any special powers'.)

Well, in a world full of actual magicians, it might make magic shows more interesting. Every time you go to one, there's an off-chance that it IS real magic!

I think it's only a small percentage of the populace that has magical abilities, though. That might've changed with the reboot, but I thought the premise of magic in DC was that even though it's real, people who could do it were very rare, and people who could do it on Zatanna's level were exceptional. I also think Zatanna's whole shtick was that she used her stage magic skills to enhance her real magic and vice versa.

Booster's first few issues were written by Johns and were really quite fun. After Johns left Jurgens took over and while not painstakingly bad, the run was fairly mediocre.

Then he teamed up with Spidey in his Dusk identity to go murder Norman Osborn.
