Katia:Excelsior (the first Kvatch flash) had more characters and rooms, while this one was a fairly limited environment over the course of several days. In Excelsior, you could also rush straight to the end, whereas this one is much more linear. At the same time, the more hidden content in this one (e.g. alternate dream endings) takes a lot more time to find than the hidden content in Excelsior. Which one is longer could really go either way.

The more important metric is: this one has more spiders. Up until now, I think only one spider has appeared in the entire comic.

That's actually a bug! Every object you examine has an invisible NPC on it who narrates your thoughts to you. On that one, I accidentally left the NPC with a graphic. Since it was mostly hidden behind the curtain, I didn't notice until your post.

I was at a Halloween party when I read your post, though, and the entire time I was worried other people would notice that half-concealed Khajiit ear and start madly theorizing about a second Khajiit hiding on the ship. Luckily, you seem to be the only person on the entire internet who saw it. Regardless, a fixed version should work its way through the caching soon.

But, yeah, I know I say it all the time and across many sites, but sorry about the delay. Hopefully, this at least partially explains why I ran so far over my initial time estimate. I still want to post those riveting statistics on the relation between depravedness and ad-click-willingness, though I'm probably going to run more ads this month. I might as well get more data first.

Well, I'm not the only one that noticed (someone pointed it out to me before I even saw it), and to be honest I only thought it was on purpose because the NPC moves down when you get close, so that the ears aren't peeking out anymore.

...what's the hidden content in Excelsior?

Leave the bug in, include another khajiit in the comic a year down the line and claim it was planned from the very beginning.

Cool to see that this still exists. I finished going through the archive right around the point of the previous update. But I guess that is a big set of updates. To bad the story flash doesn't exist yet. It feels like this comic is preparing for that heist for years now, even though that woman duped Katia only one night ago.

I don't know how likely getting those 40k in the campaign is. Right now it seems to be around 8k, so it's already 20% done after roughly one day, so that looks quite great. But I'd imagine that the majority of the people who are willing to support that campaign are also really loyal fans, who heard about it on the first day. So obviously the funds wont just grow linearly. On the other hand, these 8k come from a realitvely small set of around 100 people, so there is plenty space upwards.

Then again, indiegogo has flexible funding, so the 40k hurdle is virtually meaningless. I like your strechgoals though. Good luck with that.

A number of people asked about those, so I've added two new tiers (one for the bag, one for the cards). I was hesitant at first since the price on them would be a little high (they'd have to be sent as parcels rather than flats), but the demand seems to be high enough to justify the shipping cost. Live and learn, I guess.

Why did the sidestories delay this particular update so much? It doesn't seem like they were bound to any update in particular and could've just waited until they were ready.
The embarrassing answer is that, for almost the entire time I was working on this stuff, I felt like I was only a week away from finishing and might as well just wait and release everything at once when I was done. Of course, in almost every case, that week estimate ended up being wrong for some unforeseen reason.

I went into "Katia: Infiltrate" with the mindset "this should be easy, it's just reusing a lot of the Kvatch maps" before realizing the animation/camera systems I needed were more complicated than anticipated (you can see them used in Precede). I went into "Dodger: Break The Law" with the mindset "this should take a week at most, it's just normal panels" before realizing a lot of those panels had complex animations involving multiple characters, which I hadn't really done before. And Precede... well, I think that speaks for itself. My premise going into it was "a simple thing Cider and company can work on while I finish Dodger, and I'll just do the text and face graphics". In addition to text on every single barrel, it ended up involving almost 150 face graphics, most of them obscure and non-reusable like "Wet Katia holding a pipe while crying and covered with spiders".

If I ever made another Flash almost exactly like Precede, or a sidestory similar to Dodger, or anything like that, I'd be a lot better with my time estimates. I think I could only stick with that for so long, though, before I gently caress up and try something new.

Thanks. IGG actually changed their pricing very recently; Flexible funding used to have a 9% charge if you failed to reach your goal and 4% if you reached it, but they changed it to 5%/5%. There are effectively no drawbacks to setting a high goal now. On top of this, money starts getting transferred to you as soon as you reach your goal, meaning people can no longer get refunds. While I didn't want to set my goal absurdly high (people would say "wow, he sure thinks highly of himself!"), actually hitting it will only carry disadvantages.

Now that it's over I can say that this may be my favorite panel I've ever drawn. Though maybe I hosed it up, because a lot of people didn't pick up on the joke until its reprise.

Edit: somewhat related, I've dug through a lot of Daggerfall's source files as research for this and other updates, and it turns out there is a fuckton of nude photos in there. Like, I get that they wanted to have viewable paintings, including risque ones, but there is more softcore porn in Daggerfall's source files than there are appearance options for any race. And I think I've only actually found an actual painting in that game, like, once.

I thought it a coincidence at first, but given that both in the original and the "altered mental image" version of that panel, the fact that of the three rogues the woman is the one with actual details is intentional given QuillDodger's character?

Huh. Dodger's "imagining" pose was definitely a reference to that recurring composition from Homestuck, but I'd forgotten about Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff in that one. I more just meant it as an homage to every single artist who has certain parts of a picture that they Definitely Wanted To Draw, and only draws the rest as an attempt to hide it.

I haven't had time to do a proper data analysis yet! To be honest, the first time I advertised on e621 it was to see what would happen, but this second time is just because they have an amazing clickthrough and new reader rate.

Every time I advertise there though there's a burst of comments saying things like "I was linked here from a webcomic site" or "I found this googling for Skyrim mods", going into unusual amounts of detail about the Completely Respectable way they discovered the comic. It's kind of cute.

I got the $25 tapestry pack, so I've got stickers, a postcard, a little comic about Asotil, and the tapestry, of course. It probably got here already because I am also in Maryland; woulda gone to the semidrunk doodlesession that Kazerad was hosting, but it was several hours away, across the bay bridge and I don't have a car. Of the three, being across the bridge is by far the most inconvenient, gently caress the bridge.

Anyway, here's all my poo poo (there's a duplicate of the postcard and each sticker set because of stretch goals) featuring bonus cat trying to attack the comic about Asotil.

The comic even has a Captain Underpants style flip-o-rama in it! Complete with the hilariously tiny doodle of a left hand holding down the book as you frantically attempt to use your lovely small child motor skills to flip a page back and forth rapidly without ripping it.
