Ulysses S. Grant posted:If you're okay with signing a 2-year contract, go with $79.99/mo instead - it's 1000 minutes, unlimited text and 2 gigs of data for each line. That's almost the price you'd pay with ATT/Verizon for a single phone. I'm moving to that tonight. Hope they let me keep my @home voip service, if not, I'm going to ooma.

She said that she didn't really want it to happen either, but it would be better for the customers, she was under the impression that ATT wanted to use tmobile as a model for better customer service, rather than the other way around. I politely told her I disagreed, and we left it there.

The value plans are actually a good deal even if you have to buy the phone at full price. You usually pay less up front and your bill is less per month even with the phone being billed to you.

Out of curiousity, did you manage to keep your @home service? I started looking into this today. It sounds like these really cheap plans are mostly a way to get customers to stick around through the merger. Once past the merger, the customers will probably stick with AT&T. I'm torn between cheap prices and wanting to give AT&T the finger.

The good thing about the value plans is that I qualify for a corporate discount again, which I didn't when I was on EM+. The @home router is still $5/mo. My total bill for both lines along with the @home is just over $90/mo, but I'll get a 15% discount on that, which I'm really happy with. I dread the takeover by ATT, but at least I'll have a very good rate for the next 2 years. Really, the absurd rates and lack of non-subsidized plans are my primary reasons for hating ATT - poor service and loving up their phones are other reasons - but I've got my rooted devices, so I can live with this for a while.

Ok it looks like I missed the Best Buy "Free Nexus S" deal, but am I missing something or is there never any reason to buy a T-Mobile phone at full price? I asked 611 and the ETF was $200 max, and signing up for a new plan is basically $40 line + $20 data + $35 activation, right? So for $295 + Subsidized price I could sign up for a month, cancel, and get a brand new phone that way?

Yes, and I should add that to the OP. DISCOUNTS CAN STACK WITH VALUE PLANS.

Just got a text message saying that one of my lines was past its 200MB cap and would be billed at $0.10/MB overage. I was under the impression that data was unlimited and would just be capped down to EDGE speeds after the cap was hit. Is this not the case for EM/EM+ plans?

Last I checked, the 200MB plans do not advertise themselves as unlimited, unlike the 2GB and up plans. Which plan specifically do you have?

Is anyone here familiar with any way military personnel can get out of a contract? I ask because I just bought a Sensation and plan to go with it and then I moved to Missouri and my service went from 4g to 2g and it's absolute poo poo here. I get no signal like 2 miles outside of post and very spotty signal on post even though there's a freaking tower right in the middle of it. I can only hope that t Mobile customers get access to att towers soon.

Call up 611 and they'll let you out if you complain hard enough and prove residency in such a lovely signal area.

I'm on a 500 minute even more plus plan and had no clue about the new value lines. If I switch to one, would I have to sign a new contract? My old flexpay conversion contract is up in August and I'm thinking of ditching my Galaxy S on ebay/craiglist and switching to AT&T or Verizon since the coverage here is crap, but if I can pay $49.99 a month for the same thing and get the discount applied (what $42?) then that's a sweet deal. I don't want to be locked in for two more years of this crap though, especially without some kind of phone subsidy or even a chance for one.

I really like T Mobile so it sucks that I have to drop them.

Friend is willing to sell me a HTC G2 in great condition for $120. 1. Is that a good or bad deal? 2. I never talk on the phone, but I want data. I was looking at the Value 500 minutes and Data Plus (2gb) plan for $50/mo. I'm not really sure what else I can ask other than if anyone has any general information I should be aware of, or better ideas for me to utilize this smartphone. Or how I can pay less, because paying less is always good. fake edit: Does unlocking this thing really require paying some web site to generate the unlock code, or is there something else I'm missing that's buried by google's sponsored links?

I did not know this. I merely inquired of the unlock code in case I decide on a different service. People are pointing me all over and this http://www.mysimplemobile.com thing might not be terrible, especially since it's no contract. Just down to coverage really.

Edit: I take it you mean the T-Mobile G2, which is an HTC Desire Z variant. Just to be sure.

When you root it using the gfree tool, it automatically SIM unlocks the G2 and Desire Z. There's no need to call T-Mobile to get the SIM unlock code, or pay anyone for it.

So, stupid question I'm sure, but with the current $50/month/2 phones deal, it stacks with corporate discounts, meaning if I have access to a 15% discount, I can get 3 lines (2@$50, add 1@$15) for $99.75/month plus the cost of the phones? How much would any fees and/or taxes add to that?

Quick bit of news before I get home and can answer questions: the throttled 200mb data feature is going to be grandfathered, and in the future it will be 200mb with 10¢ per MB overage charges, with a cap of $30.

So whats the deal with the gingerbread update for the MT4G? I got an update last week that erased everyone on my phone but didn't give my 2.3.4, but a buddy of mine with one has gingerbread already. How long is the updating supposed to last/should i go to the store about it?
