If they did, just go into the store and have them update it for you. How much would any fees and/or taxes add to that? Not sure on this one. I'll look it up when I get to work today to see how corporate discounts apply.

Apparently none of the stores in Austin have the HTC SD cards to update the MT4g to gingerbread. They are rolling the update out in blocks of 10,000 so they have more time to troubleshoot issues that come up (what the t-mobile lady said). She said i was the 7th person to call her today about it, and HTC is the one holding up the update and t-mobile is doing all they can to get it from them. She estimated sooner rather than later, so i guess its a waiting game for a week or two. I guess customer support isn't totally dead as she was on the phone with me explaining it for a few minutes. Edit: She said the updates were on a timetable that HTC is keeping to themselves, or are waiting til after they troubleshoot every round of updates. Am I calculating something off, or are the value plans actually a much better value than the classic plans? 500 Minute Value plan ($34.99) + 2gig Data ($10) = $44.99 500 Minute Classic plan ($39.99) + 2gig Data ($20) = $59.99 A difference of $15. $15 x 24 months is $360. So unless the discount on a subsidized phone is more than $360 (and it seems to be $300 for a $500 phone like the 4g Slide) it makes a lot more sense to get the value plan and buy a phone on your own, yes? Or are there other factors I'm missing? Edit: On the other hand, I'm not sure if there is a good place to buy a no-contract phone like the MyTouch 4G Slide that isn't more than $500 or an untrustworthy seller. fallenturtle fucked around with this message at Aug 11, 2011 around 18:17 |

The value plans are very nice, however it's the first plan I've ever seen that ties you into a 2 year contract without giving you a hardware subsidy. I still signed up for a family value plan. Crazy cheap.

I could have sworn that option was on their site a few days ago, but it appears that is in-store only. If you choose a value plan online it only gives you the option for a SIM card. I wouldn't be surprised if the "list price" was higher in-store.

I seem to recall that AT&T Wireless, while it's acquisition by Cingular was in progress but not yet complete, offered some nice rate plans to attract signups and keep people around. I can't imagine this is any different, although keeping people on postpaid and not letting them jump to prepaid is a much bigger deal these days than it was back then. This will be the second time I've been acquired by Cingular/AT&T, and I can't say I'm too pleased about it.

Wifi calling doesn't have to use plan minutes - call Tmo and ask them for free wifi minutes on your account. They changed their policy a few months ago. As far as to whether or not it works - someone else would have to answer. I don't know if they do IP address lookups.

So I got set up with a monthly 4G plan because I hate contracts. It's working well though I have some edge network fuckery to figure out (it won't connect to anything faster despite full coverage in Columbus, OH). What I'm not sure of is how purchases on the market are going to function. Will it bill my account, or do I have to provide payment manually? Same for something like the Kindle store?

I've been a customer since 2007 (when I got scammed into FlexPay, I'm now on a contract since 2009). I'm on a family plan: Classic Unlimited Talk/Text with 200MB. I think I'd be paying more if I switched to the "Best Plan Ever," but I can't be sure. I also can't understand what's on the bill for the life of me. Is there a government employee discount? thoughts?

I recently changed from flexpay (my credit rating is poo poo) to one of the contract plans and for some reason they gave me over $100 dollar credit to my account. Because of this I didn't even have to pay a bill for the months of july or august, and I actually have had a negative balance on my account for the last two months. Should I be worried about a kickback in the future? I tried asking the customer service people what was going on, but they gave me some very generic answers to the tune of "dont worry ma'am it will all work out on your next billing cycle"

It should all work out.

So the mic on my newish G2x died and I went to the T-mobile store to ask for an exchange, to which I was told that I would have to pay $20 for 'processing'. Is this a new policy change? Either way the first call I'm going to be making is to customer service to yell at some poor Indian kid about this ridiculousness.

Yeah if you don't have insurance you pay the $20 for the warranty exchange. It is fairly new. I think it started mid June. If you have insurance you pay $5 but you get it next day air.

My sister and I both use T-Mobile separately and are considering doing a family plan together. Currently each of our plans are around 85 dollars a month with 1000 minutes, unlimited text and real unlimited data. Upon viewing our data usage histories I have never ever been over half a gb and she basically doesn't use data. We have both been T-Mobile customers for greater than 5 years, what is the best family plan we can get most likely? Any chance a college discount would be possible?

So my dad is in the market for a no-contract plan that he can use with a smartphone he buys out of pocket. He has a 19% corporate discount with T-mobile apparently. 1)Will he be able to find something better anywhere else than the Monthly4G plans? 2)Is it worth it signing on with the impending merger? 3)Could he get any T-mobile phone from eBay, or does it need to be one of the ones listed on their prepaid website?

Okay a couple of things. I moved recently and had to upgrade my data plan to "unlimited" in order to connect to the net via tether. Now that I have wifi I want to get rid of this and bump back down to my 200mb allotment. I want to know if I do that, will this change be reflected on not Septembers bill, but novembers? Since I used up 2.XX gigs of data, I don't really want to be dinged for a bunch of overage. Speaking of data, why is it that my contract (Even More™ 500 Talk) limited to ONLY 200mb of data or unlimited? I want just 2gigs for a tenner, not out the rear end for a crapload of data I won't use. On this same note, I'm transferring all my texting over to google voice from here on out to save some extra bucks. If I cancel it now (thursday the 18th) can I expect additional dinging on my bill for the 500 some odd texts I've sent so far this month? Should I just keep it and cancel it at the end of the month along with downgrading my data plan? Clarity TLDR: I want to cancel my texting plan and drop my data back to 200mb/mo. I've used both, data especially, in this last month. Will I be hit with fees if I cancel them now and not at the end of the month when we're going into a new bill period?

Here's how the math works: $49.98 - 1,000 shared minutes $10 - unlimited family texting $5 - add-a-line $30 - 2gb of data for each of the 3 lines = $94.98 per month Which I'd say is a pretty goddamn good deal for 3 lines if I do say so myself.
