My Sprint contract ends in October. Last month's usage: (Two-person family plan) Used talk minutes: 99 Texts: 0 I am thinking of getting the "Prepaid Pay-As-You-Go" $100 deal: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/pay-as-you-go-plans $100 - 1000 minutes 10¢/min. 1 year About Me: - I use my cell phone rarely - I have no need for data - Almost never, ever text - I have used pay-as-you-go phones in the past, but I've always been annoyed by the minutes expiring after 30 or 90 days. Questions: 1. Will the minutes really last for a year, and not expire in 90 days? 2. Will I be put on some kind of sub-par voice network? 3. Is there any reason why I should not do this? I can't find any voice plan anywhere that is nearly as cheap for my low usage.

BradleyJamers posted:That's exactly what I do, and if you do want to use data for a day, it's only 1.49 for data for 24 hours. It's throttled after 30mb but meh. Never had any problems with it over the 5+ years I've been doing it. ExcessBLarg! posted:What's rather nice about it is that after the initial $100 for 1000 minutes, you can reup for however many minutes you want (35 for $10, 150 for $20, 460 for $50) and they're also good for a whole year. I am now doing $15 a month prepaid for unlimited SMS, and I bought an $80 Nokia E73 from ebay. I couldn't be happier. - Google Voice SMS messages are forwarded to my phone. - Gmail sends my email messages to me via SMS. - Google Voice sends me SMS readouts of my voicemail. - Thanks Google and T-Mobile! Mark Larson posted:Wow, that's hosed up. So not only are they not allowing you to sign up for it as a current customer and keep your balance and number, but they are also getting rid of the Web Day Pass, which I've used intermittently in the last few weeks. God drat it. All of this poo poo sucks. Is there a way to disable the helpful "Web Guard"?

Burden posted:So for those of you who currently have a prepaid plan and are looking to move to the 30 plan, I have gotten confirmation from my bosses at t-mobile that if you have t-mobile already you can not get the $30 plan. It is for new customers only. Existing customers cannot move to that plan. And I just threw $100 into the pot for the extra discount.

Porkchop Express posted:I was going to buy one of those SIM card activation kits, and do it at home. Has anyone dealt with activating a new phone I bought a used smartphone from ebay a week ago, and a sim card and prepaid minutes card from t-mobile.com. The sim card materials instruct you to navigate to their site from your phone, then enter in a bunch of numbers. Alternately, you have the option of calling a phone number and reciting these numbers to a person. I at first tried their website from my phone over wifi. Humorously, the 'Submit' button on their mobile sign-up website doesn't work with my phone's browser. After much frustration, I decided to try the entry process from my computer, assuming they couldn't possibly require you to activate an out-of-service phone over the internet, using the no-data phone's browser. (Also, two of the four number sequences we submit are the sim card's serial, and the phone's serial, suggesting that the actual phone isn't physically required in the sign-up process.) By attempting the sign-up process from my computer, I hosed everything up, as my computer is not a phone.... I called in, talked to a t-mo bro, and had a working phone in five minutes. Walrusmaster posted:yes, you can just buy the cheapest pre-paid phone kit you can find and use that sim. you don't have to buy a refill card in-store (though you can if you want), you can just pay online if you'd prefer. Why not buy a $9.99 sim card from t-mobile.com? http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/?shape=simalone I bought this, put it in a used Nokia E73, and am currently using t-mobile's prepaid plan.

I currently have a month-to-month no-data plan with T-Mobile. For the next few days, I would like to have internet. I am willing to pay for a whole month, up to $60. I attempted to change my plan to a $60 unlimited data month-month plan, but it says that this will not activate until December 31st. I then tried to pay $3 for one day of internet access. The T-Mobile website also sais that this will not kick in until December 31st. Is there no way to get data today?

Thanks! I called T-Mobile, and everything went just as you said it would. This company better not die, because this is convenient as poo poo.

I seem to get very good T-mobile building reception (large grocery stores, Best Buy, etc) in Dallas. My Sprint reception would instantly cease when walking into these buildings.

I would like a Lumia 810. It looks like buying it through the Microsoft store is the better deal: http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products...mia810/buy-now/ T-Mobile.com Monthly Cost: Phone: $0 Talk & Data: Classic 500 Minute (Unlmited text) - Unlimited Nationwide 4G: $80 Monthly Total: $80 ($1,920 over two years) Microsoftstore.com.com Monthly Cost: Phone: $99/24 months ($5 monthly) Data: Value Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data: $20 Talk: 500 Minute Value: $35 Unlimited Text: $5 Monthly Total: $60 ($1,440 over two years) The Microsoft deal is significantly better. Am I missing something? Both deals have exactly the same services: 500 minutes of talk, unlmimited messaging, unlimited 4G data, and a Nokia Lumia 810 phone. The Microsoft deal is $480 less. Yeah, if you choose the 500 minute plan, they give you a special $20 unlimited/high-speed data plan. Where can you buy an 810 for $300? They are $500 new everywhere I look.
