Wildlife Analysis posted:Because literally 9 posts up. Why do we need that goalkeeper situation to happen? What good does that do for our team? What use is Tally Hall to our team? quote:I don't think he was being harshly criticized here. People just noted that he had still looked like he did not have his head in the game and were unsure if he was going to make a full comeback. A headless Donovan is more useful to the team than a footless Shea or a legless Holden. What have they done to prove their worth here?

He is just rotating guys through to see who will become the vaunted 3rd GK (or backup when/once Howard is gone). He just wants to see how they stack up. Nothing wrong with that. Also, I didn't put the roster together. If it was my choice I would not have included Shea.

Dan Kennedy, the best goalkeeper in MLS, is not called into camp but the two guys who combined to get the US knocked out of Olympic qualifying are. Love you Jurgen.

Well, assuming Klinsmann's reasoning is to evaluate his progress and usefulness for the Gold Cup... that. I doubt Holden will be in the 18 for the WCQs, and I would hope that was not Klinsi's plan.

The only defense of Shea is that we need wingers too. If I was the coach of a men's national team and 8 out of 10 of my best midfielders were d-mids, I'd probably call up some less qualified attacking mids/wing players just so I actually had the option of playing some different formations. Donovan will get called up - it's just a matter of when.

It's been so long that I've almost forgotten what kind player Stu is. We can throw him just about anywhere in the midfield right?

Yup; he's good with both feet and could play either side, too. My guess is that if he had never gotten hurt he'd be playing left mid/wing for us now (a role held by the likes of EJ and Shea for a while)

I always saw him occupying the midfield as the creative force next to Bradley's game managing and ball winning. But our minor disagreement just shows how versatile he was pre-injury. Has anyone actually watched a Bolton game since he got healthy again?

I haven't, but I assume he's been used as a deep lying defensive minded midfielder because that's the only goddamn type of midfielder that Dougie Freedman ever uses anyone as.
