I guess he is not purely a hold-up striker, but it is a lot of what he does at Houston. He is a good (relatively) dribbler. There are probably better examples that I just cannot think of right now.

e: This opinion probably comes from the fact that Houston's other strikers are pretty hit-or-miss at hold-up play, so I have always considered Ching to be the guy who does "the best" at holding onto the ball and bringing other people into the play.

I think he is relatively poo poo, but I'm struggling thinking of a better forward consistently for us. I mean, Ching is what he is, but at least he's always what he is, right?

I made my first post throwing him under the bus just to be that guy, but I see his "value," so.... "yes" I guess would be the answer to your question?

What really upsets me is that we have nobody else who seems to have a clue what they're doing on the pitch... and that my English friends joke about him like he's Heskey.

Personally, I like Ching. The height of the "Ching days" in the international game was before my time, so my opinion comes from having seen him play for Houston regularly. He always seems to be good for retaining possession and for scoring an amazing acrobatic goal every so often.

I actually like when we play Donovan as a striker in games where we are mostly playing the counter attack as his speed and skillset works well with it. Dempsey doesn't work up top because he gets frustrated with the service and drifts into the midfield anyway. Ideally we want both of these guys in their more natural positions behind someone who knows what the hell they are doing, we just don't have that guy yet. (I do still have faith in the development of both Jozy and Juan, but we'll see where that goes)

In real news Lichaj netted an assist and a goal in the span of two minutes to bring Villa level with Chelsea. Its a shame Villa are poo poo though and then allowed two more goals in the last 10, even letting Torres score one

Since the Primera thread isn't on this page and Brandy seems to live here anyways: It is amazing how composed Primera players seem to be in tight spaces. I am watching Atlas - Pumas right now and even though they are two of the worst teams (currently) in the Primera, the difference in skill on the ball compared to American players is shocking.

I mean they don't just cough the ball up when there is one or more players pressuring them. Even though they are not particularly good teams, the individual dribbling is not bad at all. It is probably one of the areas where MLS is weakest, i.e. 1v1 attacking/defending.

Yes, calm.

I think the ref overturned it because a Japanese defender hit the "pass".. if that weren't the case the offside would have almost definitely stood - the sideline ref is the only one with the right angle for that call and so pretty much always gets the only say in it.

Uh, heh. Alright I guess.

quote:

Fans of the United States and Mexico were unable to see the two arch-rivals face off this year during Olympic Qualifying, but thanks to a blast from the past, they'll get their fix.

The Legends Classic, a match featuring several of the greatest players to play for the US and Mexico is scheduled to take place at the Home Depot Center on April 15th at 9pm EDT. According to former Chivas USA captain Mariano Trujillo, who is scheduled to play for Mexico, the lineups are predominantly made up of players from the 1990s and the early 2000s.

Currently confirmed for the US squad are World Cup veterans Alexi Lalas, Eric Wynalda, Marcelo Balboa, Clint Mathis, Paul Caligiuri, Thomas Dooley and Cobi Jones. Also expected to participate are John O'Brien, who appeared in two World Cups for the US; Cle Kooiman, a defender on the US' 1994 squad as well as former MLS stars Roy Lassiter, Ted Eck, Jovan Kirovski and Christopher Sullivan.

The Mexican roster is led by former Chivas USA standouts Francisco "Paco" Palencia, Ramon Ramirez and Claudio Suarez as well as former MLS stars forward Luis Hernandez and goalkeeper Jorge Campos. Also included are Alberto Garcia Aspe, a veteran of three World Cups and Club America great Zague.

There have also been a number of reports that could see the roster include proflic forwards Brian McBride and Jared Borgetti according to ESPNLA and Hoy Los Angeles, respectively.

Is Cobi still roughly 40 pounds above his playing weight?
