Keep everythign 24v if you can, otherwise you'll have to rewire a lot of it, due to 24v not needing as much ampacity as 12v for the same wattage. So you'll have to put in bigger wires. Its always easier to put a DC-DC converter in to run anything you add to it(look at marine supply houses.), but its a lot harder to convert the whole deal to 12v.

Its two 12v batteries, and suprisingly the wiring looks to be large enough gauge to be 12v - looks better than the wiring in my Cherokee.

The only real concearn I have is again, with spare parts - Particularly, finding a 24v starter for it. I can find 12v starters, however.

I suppose I could build a 12v circuit for the starter, as I'm likely also going to have to build a 12v circuit for the ignition (123Ignition makes an electronic ignition module for the B30A, and the Points system on it currently is, well, a points system.)

I just have no idea at the moment just how much wattage a starter actually draws, but I imagine it's rather immense, so I'd likely have to build a battery charging circuit and another battery for the starter. which would then bring me up to 3 batteries. Using more modern smaller batteries, I can fit 3 in the compartment, but it's going to be tight.

Ideally I'd like to find a spare 24v starter, but the only one I've been able to find is $700. And that's... a bit rich for my blood.

My google-fu is sadly not strong enough to find any more, but if anyone's interested in helping out with this project, the original part # is:

Bosch 0001308006 24V.

Nah, dude just yank the start juice out of the middle of the two batteries, they're in series to make 24v anyway.

Why not just have the original motor rebuilt at a local shop if it goes out? That can't be $700. Plus, the DC-DC converters that would be required to handle the current of the 12V starter would cost a hefty amount too.

Heh, I think if it came down to it they'd just use a resistor capable of 3KW in series with the 12v motor, instead of a converter. It'd be ugly-inefficient, but work.

My concearn is if it goes out on the trail, (had that happen to a Jeep once), I'd prefer to have a spare on-hand I could swap in. Having 2 would mean I could do that and then have the bad one rebuilt and put it back as a spare.

Its a manual, you don't need no steenking starter motor.

Fortunately, Opel Lady had a similar issue with her Opel she's working on, and found an awesome local cranky locksmith who is a god damned WIZARD and loves a challenge. He managed to create a key for her Opel from scratch off of old codes he had on microfiche, so we figured we'd let him have a crack at this little bastard.

It's supposedly made by Taylor locks, but Taylor themselves have no record of it, and the C303 forums and mailing lists I'm on are full of tales of locksmiths refusing to work on it because of a ridiculously tiny set screw that's peened in place from the factory.

So what did this guy do? Drilled out the peen, ground down a screwdriver to fit that miniscule screw, backed it out and REKEYED THE DAMNED LOCK without ANY of the right parts - he apparently just MADE them. Jimmy Lock and Key, you guys are awesome. And if anyone needs locksmith work in the Denver area, this man is a loving mad genius.

This man is truly the Sockington of the Locksmithery world. Nothing is too far gone to fix. Tradesmen like him are a dying breed. Send him a bottle of single malt.

Diffuser system. Buy a can of spray on glass frosting, apply several coats. Alternatively pop her open and I'd wager a quart of 5w-30 there's a potentiometer inside on the driver circuit. Twiddle it and see if it dims enough.

Your toils have satisfied the AI gods for a time.
