Weird. The premiere is June 1, but I see that Colosseum runs it at 21:00 on May 31st with Lillestrøm, Tromsø and Trondheim following suit at 23:59 - and those are the only theatres showing it that soon. The rest of the country starts at 18:00, June 1.

At least I was the first one to order for my particular showing so it's centre-centre seating for me. Now I just hope we get it in 4K

I could of course jump of the train at Lillestrøm and hang around there until 23:59, but that would be really dumb and I wouldn't be able to take my terrified friends.

Guess that means that the plot will be revealed in a week and a half, roughly. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in words vs. on screen.

Welp, saw the new commercial today. I don't know why I didn't think to look away when it started, but it wasn't as revealing as people let on. You can't see the whole thing, just a few knuckled tentacles, with the main carapace out of frame.

From what it does show though, I wonder if the new monster is based on Giger's early facehugger? This guy: http://i.imgur.com/j30wa.jpg.

Interestingly, the humanoid in that painting has a "biomechanical" arm reminiscent of how the Engineer in the trailers looks.

Supposedly the actor who plays 'sacrifice engineer' actually laid out his role in the film so here it goes (take it for what it's worth, but it appears to be totally legit)

In the original Alien, the crew encounter the ‘Space Jockey’, now known as an ‘Engineer’ (the name for the alien race) however, as this is a semi-prequel, the ‘Engineers’ have a much bigger part to play. My character is that of a fairly young ‘Engineer’ who ritualistically sacrifices himself in the opening scene. This sacrifice is very different to any others as I have to drink an ancient mix which causes my body to literally disintegrate into the water around me. This then provides the first building blocks for new life to form on the alien planet. There are two other ‘Engineers’ who are in the rest of the film and have fairly large parts, but you will have to wait for release to find out more.

I'm wondering if this particular scene actually occurs after the Prometheus crashes into the Engineeer ship.

Maybe something like:
1. Member of crew is infected by advanced Engineer virus that essentially inserts Engineer DNA into him, effectively turning him into a "resurrected" Engineer complete with memory.
2. Engineer attempts to launch his ship on a course for earth, Idris Elba's character rams the Prometheus into it, rendering both ships unflyable.
3. Rapace's character gives birth to monster, it grows and begins killing remaining crew.
4. The Engineer is alive and pissed off, gains entry to the Prometheus and begins stalking remaining crew, ends up tangling with Rapace's tentacled baby as well.

I'm probably totally off, but this is fun to guess at.

Yeah, the general consensus right now is that the tentacled creature is Shaw's 'child' and it inadvertently/deliberately intervenes and saves her from the Engineer/Weyland in the suit.

Regarding the newest spoilers:Am I the only one hoping that cuddles somehow survives and is featured in the eventual sequel? Of course, this is assuming it has the potential for non-malevolent intelligence, not just a nightmarish surprise sex monster. Interactions between he/she/it and Shaw would add a whole new level of unnerving to the franchise.

Icesler
Jul 7, 2005

My bullshit idea on how the franchise ties together: The tentacle monster that Shaw gives birth to survives till the end of the movie. We then see a scene of the tentacle monster laying eggs using the combined DNA of humans, Engineers, and tentacle monster surprise sex face snakes. Those eggs hatch to create Xenomorphs. There are similarities between the engineer suits and Xeno's.

I disagree. I think he'll actually give a bunch of random people online a pill version of the movie, which they have to swallow against their will. The movie then grows inside their stomachs, and when it fully matures into the final cut, the person is then strapped down and has it removed via machine claws.

Voila!

Judging by the scenes where Shaw is peeking through a door and sees a tentacle hit the glass, and then we see her on the ground with the engineer standing over her next to that door, I have a feeling that the scene basically plays out with Shaw releasing the tentacle monster to basically save herself from whatever the engineer plans to do to her.

The interesting thing however is that you can see in the 1080p trailer that it is Holloway who gets infected and tries to board the ship with arms outstretched before Vickers torches him with a flamethrower, so I'm guessing it basically plays out with some really hosed-up situation where Shaw's child is some tentacle beast and the father has turned into some crazy biomechanical engineer nutjob and they're all trapped on the escape shuttle together. Unless they manage to kill Holloway and have to deal with a real engineer on the Prometheus instead.

That's my guess anyways, but it really looks like the different clips from the various trailers are all from the same scene which makes it a little predictable as to how it plays out.

I dipped my toes in the Prometheus Forum a little while back, and I just feel like so much of the current consensus over there is just based on a few spitballed ideas that stuck because they were popular, not because there was much evidence for them.

I'm really skeptical that any of the crew members become Engineers. For one thing, there's a lot of indications that the Engineers are in some kind of suspended animation in the large mounds of the orrery. Also, from the interview with the actor credited as the Sacrifice Engineer we know that the guy at the beginning of the second trailer has ingested a liquid which breaks his body down into smaller organisms, which become the beginnings of life on a new planet. Judging by the similarity between the ashen and blue veined appearance of the Sacrifice Engineer and infected Holloway, I'd guess that Holloway made the mistake of ingesting that same liquid. I'd further speculate that in the course of sleeping with Shaw, one of the organisms he was beginning to break into got into her womb, where things go very wrong. Of course at that point, I'm shooting in the dark just as much as anyone else.

Anyway, with that, I'm ducking out of the thread until the film's release.
