Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut is an incredible movie - one of Ridley's best, and one of my favourite movies in general. I bought the 4 disc set based on recommendations from this forum and I can't recommend it highly enough. When I put in the first disc and was treated to an Overture, I knew this movie was going to be an incredible production in scope and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.

I bought it purely off of the SA forums raving about it too. 100% agree. Forgettable in theaters but amazing in its uncut form.

The first time especially, it'd be better to view the Theatrical Cuts of both Alien and Aliens.

Alien, I agree- Aliens, I don't. To me, the extended Aliens is the only good one. The strength of that movie, beneath the action, is the family bonds that form. That's all way stronger in the director's cut. James Cameron even does an intro on the DVD that says it was the way it was meant to be.

I wish I hadn't watched the new trailer. That is way more stuff/information than I wanted going into this movie.

I don't really get the whole "Alien 3's director's cut is better than the theatrical" idea. I have a lot of friends who feel that way, but I felt like it made an overly serious movie even longer and more overly serious. I couldn't handle it after a while.

A study conducted by UC San Diego last year suggested that, a majority of the time, people actually enjoyed a story more if it was spoiled for them beforehand.

yeah that's not the case for anyone I've ever known in my life

You thought the plot was great? This type of stuff is maddening. I can understand anyone coming in and reporting that they liked it, whatever, personal tastes aside. But this DOES NOT mean that you can now label the movie a success and in good taste. You can't be objective, stop reviewing movies, I watched the Avengers and thought it was entertaining-ok-but I would never make the claim that it's a great movie. I think anyone who finds this movie really good, the plot believable, the characters relatable, the questions raised engaging to check themselves into the nearest mental institution and start the woodwork of tests needed to diagnose a personality disorder.

You should care less about movies and go outside sometimes.

I had a great time watching this movie, but in the end felt like it did a lot of things wrong. However, the fact that it causes so much discussion and arguing and loving NERD RIOTS has really made me love it. It's not the best movie ever but I really have to commend it for that. There's a lot to discuss, good or bad, and I'd still rather watch THAT than the loving Avengers.

I don't have any argument for or against Prometheus, it was what it was. But some of the people who disliked it are being such loving babies that it's making this movie experience better and better in retrospect.

The one thing I don't really get is all the complaints about the music. That didn't even... remotely stand out to me. Not sure what was wrong with it?

The thing that pissed me off was that the loving robot was the best played, most interesting character in the film.

Why would it piss you off that a great character played by an awesome actor was interesting?

I think it's the neck that puts me off that first shot. The second one seems to have a shorter neck, and that gives it a more bestial look. The first one looks a little too much like a "grey" alien or something. Like it might be friendly.
Second one's great, though.

Interesting! I feel the opposite- Second shot is just typical movie killer monster stuff to me, but that first shot is so vacant/spooky and "I don't know what to loving make of this thing" that it's way creepier to me. You're right, it DOES look like it might be friendly, but I'd chalk that up to this unknown being walking around in a new form for the first time and being just as confused as the crew is.

I'm thinking way too hard about unused shots here but whatever.

I haven't read this thread for a few weeks/months but has the idea of the squid being a mutated sperm from Holloway been brought up?

That was actually my gut reaction to what it was when I first saw the movie!
