Ertan's two living kids. The eldest (Sultan of Persia) should be receiving the Azerbaijan title, while the younger will get Syria.

EDIT: Oh, he just got a bastard son too it seems.

Thanks. Ertan is only 31 apparently, I thought he was older for reason.

I think Muscowy might actually be part of Byzantium, they sometimes become vassals since they're both Orthodox and Muscowy is a principality level state and Byzantium is kingdom level.

A few of the African Empires were serious poo poo if I remember right. Take Mali for example - in some parts of the country you could trade bars of salt for bars of gold because they had so much loving gold (and not much salt). There is a reason why people like me, from the rural south of the United States, will still occasionally refer to Timbuktu when I want someone to gently caress off far away.

Of course, what do I know. If Johan says Africans were dirt poor and didn't have horses, who am I to argue?

It would have helped if Africa had two tech groups, one north and one south. The north with horses and slightly better tech speed.

Is it difficult to code in higher base tax values for Africa then? Everyone seems upset about it.

It's not that Africa needs higher tax provinces, it's more that there should be some hefty attrition penalties for non-African countries trying to colonize/conquer. The reason that the continent was only seized in the late 1800's had more to do with disease and less to do with the technological prowess of the native societies.

Given that France has pretty much been a dead Kingdom for centuries at this point, would Burgundy be particularly interested in reviving France as a thing? What we call "French" might just be called "Burgundian" in this world; after all the burgundian version of French is called Burgundian, and if it has supplanted Parisian French as the standard form of french, all the other versions of French might just be considered forms of Burgundian instead. Arguably with hundreds of years of strength behind it Burgundy might very well be considered the more prestigious title, and the idea of "France" as a kingdom could be as dead by this time as the Kingdom of Lotharingia was by this point in our own history.

To be honest I think Burgundy becoming France is kinda boring. I don't mind some sort of tricolor design for a republican Burgundy, but I don't think we should assume it would be red-white-blue. That's the red and blue of the Parisian revolutionaries mixed with the white of the French monarchy. Any revolutionaries might have different colours, and the colour of the Burgundian kings could just as easily be a colour other than white (maybe, say, Burgundy).

The Burgundians would probably call themselves France for the same reason that the Prussians called their new country "Germany" in 1871. Just because a country with that specific name hasn't existed doesn't mean that the idea hasn't existed.
