I remember when portals were first mentioned and people were excited by the concept of laying a minecart track through it. I see absolutely no reason why they can't do a transparent portal / partial nether loading system. Another cool feature of that would be that portals would have to be very carefully considered because once they are built, the legions are free to inhabit the normal world, so it'd need to be in a fortified building or whatever. Let's pretend the AI would actually do that by the way. Anyone remember that the server used to have a hellworld mode? I really miss that. I'd create a normal world, then set that flag. It was like end of days. Topside with trees aflame and nether mobs roaming the landscape.

It's exciting seeing how much you're getting done laying down the framework for your Minecraft-like, and what I've been hoping would happen for a long time. A Minecraft clone that learned from Minecraft's mistakes and brings fun new ideas to the concept. And I can't think of a better Minecraft-like than Space Disco Minecraft. I also love Jeb being all motivated. Anymore, the only downside I see to finally getting the mod support/API (once the bugs are worked out) is that people like Bicehunter and the other Minecraft-like guy from this thread (Sorry, you haven't posted this page ) will make fun mods instead of fun competing games. And we still win in that scenario as consumers.

Okay, so this thread over on GBS goes to a site where you draw things and describe things others have drawn. I've been going through the Yogscast Minecraft videos to catch up, since I'd fallen behind. My turn to draw came up. The description of what I was to draw? "Somebody on the Internet has different preferences from his." With the Yogscast on, I figured I'd just doodle Honeydew quickly. When the notice hit that someone had described what I'd drawn, it wasn't quite what I'd been shooting for. ![]() This guy saw my boxy-shaped man, guessed it was from Minecraft, but didn't know of the Yogscast, so he went on a Notch tirade?

chappey posted:Bicehunter, how will you have players get from one planetoid to another? Free-floating like Creative mode or, dare I ask, a craftable spacecraft? Well, I've thought about it abit and this is just purely speculation/ideas from my part at this stage: You need to locate them first by building some sort of space-telescope. A running space telescope has a chance to locate new astroids of different types (small, medium, large. rich world, barren world, cheese world ;P etc). Once located I've had a few ideas of how to get there, either by building a portal tuned in to that astroid (easy way out, probably what it will be at first) or by building a ship and set its location to that astroid. Flying would then be some cut-scene like thing where you take of from the current astroid and go thru some spacetunnel to end up at the new place. Ofc the coolest (but hardest) would be to build a spaceship and then just go exploring and maybe have those portal things as a quick way to travel between already discovered areas.

I dig this idea. Stargate style. Go roaming the universe and plop down portals that link back to home whenever you find an interesting world. Tune the home portal (or any other portal) to the 'frequency' of the portal on the desired world and *zap*.

I'm pumped! I just spent 2 hours with my friends testing a multiplayer build of Sandbox. Connections seemed stable and playable for the most part. We started off building a house then ended up tearing the world itself to pieces. Friend #2 decided to dig down as far as he could. Upon reach the bottom, everyones clients promptly crashed. As sea level is over 2,000 blocks high, this was nothing less than an hour long feat. Another step closer to mass goon testing. One of the 'features' of this build is other players are invisible. Using the chat feature and drawing X's on the ground is the only way to indicate your location to one another. One step at a time. I snapped a shot early on of us building a house: I was too excited to remember to record a video or capture anything interesting. Whoops. I was using the PureBDCraft textures for this session. I feel this stylized look goes well with the game. Any thoughts?

When you die it zooms way out to show you where you died (e.g. inside a solid asteroid, way out in the middle of nowhere with text saying "You starved to death!", standing on the surface of a star with Smash Mouth playing a MIDI version of Walkin' on the Sun [literal hell ending], etc.) Give a random chance to reach the more stupid worlds like Cheese Asteroid or Notch/[Video Game Character]'s Head/Cow Asteroid.
