I also can't wait to have ropes modded in again so I can go spelunking properly. OOh and with ravines we need a rope-arrow to create a rope-bridge, because making block bridges is friggen lame.

This is probably academic considering how far the average map is explored, but it seems rather than limiting strongholds to 1 (or 3) a map, it would be smarter to just define a rate for them, like 1 per 10000 square blocks. Just seems like it would be silly that you could travel 1,000,000 blocks in all directions and never encounter one because the max of 3 is clustered around your original spawn.

Is there still a way to see your skin somehow on the minecraft.net page? I remember being able to see my character run in place with my skin applied but can't seem to find it anymore. Anyone remember the url? My account name is poemdexter if it matters.

So are the fixes he talked about applied to the 1.8 prerelease? Like, if I downloaded it, would it be updated? Because I was waiting to play it until the worst bugs were fixed and I'm willing to give it a shot now that furnaces aren't black holes hungry for your inventory.

So I went and found myself a room in a slime-spawning chunk underground, lit it up, and removed myself from the area to wait for things to appear. How long should I wait before slimes are likely to appear? Would changing from easy to hard make them more likely to spawn?

You can just sprint at an enemy to crit them. Also they happen randomly as well.

Holy poo poo, the Quake Pro FOV setting is trippy as balls. I constantly feel like the camera is doing one of those zoom-out-while-moving-forward shots that movies like to pull from time to time. I think I'll play through the whole game like this.

This Stronghold thing confuses me. When they say a max of three per map...do they mean the entire world? Because isn't each world titanic, like, bigger than the earth huge? If I start in Paris it'd be pretty lame if my three strongholds were in Mongolia, New Zealand and Argentina.Roundabout Route posted:Holy poo poo, the Quake Pro FOV setting is trippy as balls. I'm comfortable with my FoV around 75 for most games. 90 it really starts to fish eye way too much and gets distracting. It's fun to mess around with Quake Pro though, I feel like I'm basically going warp speed when I run.

I'd have to agree that three per world is bit crazy. Especially if the generation algorithm for strongholds just rolls a die every time you make a new chunk, or something. V - I think the issue here is that, if it's three strongholds per entire world, and depending on how the strongholds are generated, it could be a long time before seeing just one. The whole 8 times the size of the earth thing gets tossed around too much. Unless you try, you're never gonna get to the far lands. Three strongholds per world is a little small but the entire world doesn't generate from the start.

Three strongholds per world is a little small but the entire world doesn't generate from the start. But what are the mechanics of it? Is there an x% chance of a stronghold spawning with each new area generated? What if I go in a line like we've seen people doing on the ocean maps, will they leave their three strongholds scattered behind them and they will never have a chance to see one without going back along the same route? An arbitrary world-limit sounds pointless, why don't they just give it a low chance of spawning and leave it at that?

Wingless posted:"Contra-zoom". Thanks, I've learned something tonight! And after looking it up on Wikipedia... Wikipedia posted:The effect is achieved by using the setting of a zoom lens to adjust the angle of view (often referred to as field of view FOV) while the camera dollies (or moves) towards or away from the subject in such a way as to keep the subject the same size in the frame throughout. So that explains that!

I hate to be the guy who asks this, but people have been taking about these Strongholds for pages now, and judging from what is being said it is unlikely I'll stumble across one by accident, so...could someone kindly explain to me what exactly a Stronghold looks like? Is it like a huge castle sitting abandoned and ready for occupation or is it some sort of enemy base you must siege and conquer? Or maybe a cavern/mountain with a particular size and shape?
