A few 1.8 thoughts; - When they said they were going to make water 'deeper' in places, I did not envision the loving Marianas Trench. - You can sprint along the bottom in a pond/ocean (though you'll likely drown in these oceans by doing so), and while not exactly useful for travel, the damage boost makes harvesting squids a lot easier. - Pigs for loving days. - Said before, but the new torch lighting, and moonlight, add even more atmosphere to this game. - I scoffed when pigs having 3d snouts was touted as a "feature" but it adds a certain. . . je ne sais quoi, to the little guys. Right before I harvest them for meat.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that if you have too many torches in too close a proximity, the old light seems to return? It goes from nice and warm and good to look at, back to fluorescent lovely bright white. Just something that gets on my nerves. On the topic of seeds "What Will You Give Me" spawns some very odd mountain ranges, with desert on a couple sides of a nice sort of bowl canyon with a forest to one side. Quite nice.

Apparently setting ones server.properties file to "online-mode=off" allows you to skip the auth servers. So the Goon server could do that if so inclined. Just connect to the server even if it reads Offline in your list. Fake Edit: Tested and working. Orv fucked around with this message at 04:36 on Sep 12, 2011 |

Wingless posted:This Stronghold thing confuses me. When they say a max of three per map...do they mean the entire world? Because isn't each world titanic, like, bigger than the earth huge? If I start in Paris it'd be pretty lame if my three strongholds were in Mongolia, New Zealand and Argentina. Isn't it 8X the Earth? So try more like the Moon, Nega-Earth 1 and the Kupier Belt. I'd have to agree that three per world is bit crazy. Especially if the generation algorithm for strongholds just rolls a die every time you make a new chunk, or something. V - I think the issue here is that, if it's three strongholds per entire world, and depending on how the strongholds are generated, it could be a long time before seeing just one. I'm finding that a 2-wide, 4-deep moat with a raised edge on the side you don't want them being does in Endermen pretty well. .......D -> Town DWWD DWWD DWWD DWWD Basically. (D=Dirt, W=Water. Replace materials as you see fit.)

Well, I posted the ISD Unfinished last night, so it's only appropriate that I show how much free time I have by posting the ISD Iolkos tonight. I decided to forget about even trying to mine the materials for it, hopped on a creative server and went to work. Also scaled it up by about 45%. There are so many things wrong with it, so many things I wish I could change about how Minecraft worked. I wish I had some artistic talent so I could make the black wool texture look like I want instead of relying on the weird torch scheme. I'm probably being too hard on myself, but it could definitely be better. The obligatory shot; Various angles; And finally, a shot from the nose of a cool little X-Wing someone build nearby. The thing that bothers me most? It's short two turbo-laser turrets. I am such a nerd. Orv fucked around with this message at 10:58 on Sep 20, 2011 |

Well, I'm in for a cold in the next couple hours here I think, so I've decided to do something stupid. Remember my artists rendition of an Imperial Star Destroyer? Yeah. . . The Iolkos clocks in at 105 blocks long. This was 600 before I put the tail on, so it's now probably more like 640-660ish. The Iolkos is down there at the bottom left for comparison. I have clearly taken leave of my faculties. I actually had a low 200-something block Executor started, got the sides and the bottom done, and then realized "Godsdamnit, this is only twice as big as the other one." I'll be back later. . . Much later. After I loving sleep.

Suddenly, a better discussion than anything the actual Skyrim thread could produce. Godsdamned Endermen stole an essential block from my railway. Why is this block essential? Because without it, I plummet from 40 blocks above sea-level to bedrock. Maybe building a minecart track over my mineshaft was a bad idea. . . (How did they even get up here? )

I actually don't care about redstone in any capacity, but I think it could open interesting avenues. A common trick of a friend and I on older, open to anyone servers (about 1.6-ish?) was to have a ledge in front of our inevitable giant window. Since fishing poles can trigger pressure plates, we'd have the ledge unreachable by normal means, but we could have the plate there. Neat little door switch. Fairly effective, when most players are 12 years old and imbeciles. Though I suppose that's redundant. V - Why? Why is it close? Why does it matter? Boat posted:I'd suggest keeping the front half upright & "beached" with the balk half broken off and at a 45 degree downward angle. That way you can make liberal use of wooden stairs to sort of smooth out the upper surfaces and keep them walkable. This is partially what I'm doing. The front is partially beached (yay, artistic furrows) but what's catching me up is the cubist perspective of the ship being at a ~15 angle. I've got it stepping down across some dirt for the first bit of the front half which looks pretty good, but it feels like I could be doing things better. Especially since the inside decks are a bit of a pain to navigate. I'm thinking I may have to shatter it more to make it functional as a house (the original intent) and not such a bitch to putter about in. The back half I haven't even started, it being half in a swamp and half in an ocean (gently caress planning! ) so that'll be a whole 'nother barrel of laughs.
