I hope you guys know that Survival mode is intended as Survival mode, like, it's supposed to be a challenge to survive, similar to games like Stranded 2. You're lucky he's not adding a temperature bar so you slowly die in the bitter cold if you're in snowy areas or something. I thought that running out of food would just kill you eventually. How much would you guys be whining if that was the case? Anyway, I'm looking forward to this update as it'll give me a reason to make bread and cakes and stuff instead of just keeping three cooked porkchops on me at all times.

Rupert Buttermilk posted:This is actually the exact game I was planning to make (in Unity) up until this moment. Do it anyway! I'd kill for a modern version of Stranded 2, that game is really neat but the graphics are piss poor and the engine is lovely. I'm not a huge fan of unity either but whatever.

Tw1tchy posted:How I long for the day Notch adds small, finite maps again. It felt good making an island your home, knowing every feature of it This sounds really neat. I never really get the exact gist of an island if that makes any sense. I never learn an area to the point where it feels like home and I know every nook and cranny, I think it's because worlds sort of blend together and because you can always explore more outward.

President Ark posted:So are the fixes he talked about applied to the 1.8 prerelease? Like, if I downloaded it, would it be updated? Because I was waiting to play it until the worst bugs were fixed and I'm willing to give it a shot now that furnaces aren't black holes hungry for your inventory. Jeb's twitter posted:There wont be an update today, but tomorrow I will *at least* update the prerelease So, no, nothing yet, but tomorrow you should be able to do just that.

President Ark posted:That's not what happens when the mapper gets confused by going out too far. This is what happens when you go too far. poo poo gets noneuclidean. Actually, in 1.8, no matter how far out you get, you just get infinite oceans past 3,000,000 x or y, apparently. http://www.youtube.com/user/kurtjmac This does not bode well for Kurt J. Mac, the guy doing "Far Lands or Bust" in which he raises money for charity while walking to the far lands.

Just a protip to anyone who experiences those annoying lagspikes every couple seconds: those are the 'lag spikes of death', and I get them too. The only way I know to fix them is to download a mod that removes them from the Optifine guy, and that hasn't been updated for 1.8, so if you get the spikes like me, you're kind of hosed until he updates it.

Logtar posted:Well I'm getting lag spikes every few seconds which is making the game nigh unplayable :/ Gonna keep posting this until more people know. This is the Lag Spikes of Death, something I experienced in every version of the game up until 1.8, but most people seem to be experiencing only now that 1.8 has come out. The optifine guy has a fix for it, but he won't update the fix or optifine itself until MCP updates. So you're boned until then, but it isn't hopeless.

It's amazing, C418 has remade like nearly every sound in the game and notch just sits on his rear end not adding literally any of them and using his dumb placeholder sounds. It's mindboggling, and really upsetting. I just want him to add the drat sounds how hard can it be??

Schweinhund posted:This is just ridiculously wrong. I don't see how what he said was wrong at all. It's been said time and time again recently but basically you are required by law to defend your trademark if something is threatening it. In this case, Bethesda has a game called The Elder Scrolls. Mojang has created a game called Scrolls. Thus Bethesda is forced to defend their older patent or possibly lose the rights to use it. You might think "oh, but scrolls isn't that close to the elder scrolls, and they're both totally different games!". That might make sense to a seasoned gamer but a judge is going to say "This game is called Scrolls and this game is called the Elder Scrolls. They're both video games. Bethesda wins." The same would happen if someone tried to make a game called Combat Evolved. Lavender Philtrum fucked around with this message at Sep 28, 2011 around 11:50 |

The current Minecraft Cycle: (...) - Notch releases update - Mods are broken - Modders bitch - Players bitch about lack of content (...) - Mods finally update - Players are happy mods are working, but get restless about wanting new content - Notch adds new content in update - Mods are broken - Modders bitch - Players bitch about lack of content etc etc etc What it should be: - Notch releases Mod API - Who gives a gently caress, MOD API! - All is well. Edit: oh holy poo poo Jens Bergensten is the new lead developer on Minecraft. I wonder if this has anything to do with the coup involving the yogscast?

Internet Kraken posted:The music in Minecraft is one of the things that always bugged me. I mean the music itself is fine, but it can play at the worst time. The game doesn't have different tracks play depending on your location. So you can be in the depths of a cavern or the burning nether wastes and the same bright and cheery music from the surface will be playing. Minecraft can be atmospheric at times, but the music kills it in a lot of situations. It's still as unfitting as ever. I was recently in the Nether and some nice happy music started playing. To answer the other guy's question about ambient sounds, though: those play when you're within 10 blocks of a cavern at least 5x5 blocks large with no light in it, I believe. And they come from the direction of the cavern.

Too bad the 1.8 real release hosed up the suavebaby seed, there are no trees on the starting island now.
