Fishylungs posted:I think the most amusing part of the coming update is that, even though they don't do anything, no one has complained about the XP orbs. Even though they don't do anything. Meh. I don't have any use for the dumb c-rpg poo poo Notch wants to put in the game, but I don't HAVE to do anything with it (for the moment), so it doesn't particularly bother me. I save my annoyance for the hunger gauge; gently caress penalizing people for not eating if they don't need to heal. I'm even ok with the non-instantaneous healing, though I'd prefer it the other way, but "if you don't eat, you'll lose health or die"? That's getting modded out immediately. That said, I finally looked at a full list of what's supposed to be in the update, and almost all of it I'm neutral or excited about. 1.9 may very well end up a pile of poo poo for me, but 1.8's pros seem to outweigh the cons by a lot.

miscellaneous14 posted:If I read correctly, having full hunger replenishes your health, though? So you can still save your food for when the hearts start dropping, unless you need an instant-heal right that moment which, chances are, you're in too much danger to swap through your items right then anyway. That part isn't what bugs me really, it's this: jeb_ on twitter the other day posted:If the the food bar is empty in MC 1.8, it will slowly drop your health to 5 hearts on easy, to 0.5 hearts on normal, and kill you on hard That seems intrusive and unnecessary. Even if you like the mechanic, .5 hearts on normal seems kind of bullshit to me. Fishylungs posted:It's supposed to be toggle-able so assuming they didn't remove that option you shouldn't even need a mod. Oh I know, I wasn't intending to complain. If "hunger kills" is toggle-able then it becomes like xp - not something applicable to the game I'm playing, and therefore easy to ignore. 1.9, though, seems like it will decide whether the way Notch wants me to play is compatible with the way I want to play.

^^^I've made it obvious I don't like it either way at this point, but yeah, the speed of the health drop is a factor in how much I don't like it as well.Vib Rib posted:You're going to need to heal anyway, and the food you'll be eating either way adds to your hunger bar. If your health gets down to .5 hearts for any reason, you'd normally eat something to begin with. But I wouldn't have to heal if the hunger bar hadn't left me on the edge of death, that is what bothers me. I understand that if a creeper blows me up and I'm reduced to a half-heart then I need to heal. Of course I do, that's obvious. What I don't like is the idea that if I'm not injured by an attack, I'm going to have to waste my time finding food, or the next time I fall more than three blocks I'm a dead man. (and before someone says "creative is coming back now, have fun" or "maybe peaceful is the setting for you": I like fighting creepers, zombies, and skells. I like building walls that spiders can't get up. I look forward to standing on one of those walls, behind a lava moat [or a regular moat I guess], and daring the endermen to come at me and I like having to dig out every stone block I use in those walls)

Vib Rib posted:Well, all I can say is that if you're fighting monsters as often as all that, the food you'll be eating anyway will keep your hunger bar nearly maxed out anyway. I doubt you'll ever be in danger of starving, especially now that food's stackable. Maybe, and that's what I told myself when this all was first announced. It just seems like if that's going to be the case, then they don't need to ding you when you manage to avoid being hit. Or if you spend a few days building a copy of the Shime mine tower to dock your floating biome-disks at and don't see any monsters, or what-have-you. Which I guess is another reason that I want to know what the time scale is on this health-drop thing. If it's long enough then you're right, it probably won't matter at all.

There've been a few floating homes in the last couple of pages, so I thought I might as well post mine. Side note: gently caress CLOUDS, I spent three days on a nerd-scaffold waiting for a clear shot at sunset. Glad that won't be an issue anymore. I present to you Deutschland literally über alles: ![]() And here's a daylight picture for people like me with crap monitors: ![]() (The chain can be climbed, if one wants to get adventurous.)

I've updated Quandary for use with 1.8!
