Burning.... crosses??? Clearly is giving us the double, flaming middle fingers.

Why are we assuming that those are timers for potions and not some part of the exp/levelling system? Speculation itt.

Because that would be an obtuse and retarded (Beyond typical notch levels) method of displaying it, there's already code for potions in the game, and jeb has glass potion bottles in his inventory.

Now I want to drive cars with Source physics around a Minecraft highway.

I'm imagining the HL2 buggy driving into a 1 tile raise in the highway, and proceeding to launch into orbit now.

More games need poorly tweaked havok physics.

I have a question for anyone who plays SMP. Has anyone discovered a chicken coop design that doesn't result in your chickens dying, due to clipping into the walls? I tried an open pit and a couple coop/battery farm examples posted earlier, but ultimately I haven't been able to reach a positive birth:death rate.

Is this even a problem outside our server?

Maybe certain arraingments of furniture around it = better enchantment tiers?

I'd rather have full control on how my hermetic mage library looks. I was planning a enchantment podium sticking out over a deep pit lined with bookshelves. Restrictions on how close bookshelves need to be or some other dumb thing would hamper that.

Is that lanterns I see? Is that from a mod?

Yeah as Jelly said, they're the lantern torch option from painterly.

Painterly continues to be the pack I wind up returning to, and even when I stray away from it I wind up poaching certain elements from it. So even though I could tell you this elsewhere in private, thanks for continuing to own kas.

I'm a little disappointed in the new potions system. The interface is better, even if it removes the novelty of loving with objects within the world, but jeb removed most of the complexity from it. Potions will only ever have one effect now, negative or positive. Redstone/glowstone effects strength or duration, and fermented eye will effect a couple potions negatively.

I liked the idea of having to balance negatives with positives, as well as having multiple effects on a single potion in general.

[04:26] <Satharis> guess they totally nerfed potions if there's really 8700-14500 current unique potions
[04:30] <+jeb> Satharis: i removed duplicate potions and potions that can't be made in less than 6 steps

[04:31] <@Risugami> so 1.9 official will keep this overcomplex system? some of us enjoy this lol
[04:33] <@Risugami> I think most of us want an input queue with a preview, in a gui
[04:34] <+jeb> Risugami: i'm not sure... i've remade the brewing stuff with a GUI
[04:35] <+jeb> but it's still annoying since you can have many potions that look the same, but can't be stacked because of hidden auxValue differences

[05:00] <+jeb> i'm not planning to do more potion effects or types, because i want potions to have their specific range of uses
[05:01] <+jeb> i mean, i don't want to make an explosive potion, because in that case it would make more sense to simply add a hand grenade

[05:02] <Satharis> jeb if you don't mind me asking, is there any plan to umm.. weaponize potions somehow? or are the negative effects just to hurt the user in exchange for the buff?
[05:02] <Satharis> that's been kind of a point of contempt
[05:03] <+jeb> the initial idea of the negative buffs was simply to make it harder to create a "clean" potion
[05:03] <+jeb> but in the long term these potions could be used for other things

From here, the thread on the MCF that originally sleuthed out potions.

I really hope they reconsider.

If you place an enchanting table near bookshelves, you get this

There's really nothing to say yet about the enchanting system given what we've seen so far, but man notch did a REALLY good job on the visuals and animations of the enchanting table. Little details like this are really, really cool.

Calm down, man, it's just the guide. That's what developer art is for.

There are only two people who do art for minecraft, notch and jeb. They're both programmers. Junkboy is on permanent scrolls assignment. So he's not overreacting, it's gonna look like poo poo.

Luckily I never use the default textures.

My favorite line in that changelog:

I love that maps now have north at the top. I just wish that was accomplished by turning the map, not turning the whole world's rotation. I've got a bunch of stuff that was built to take advantage of pretty sunsets and sunrises that will, eventually when there's a full release and the server I play on is updated, not face the sun at all.

The list is being repeatedly updated and strikethrough doesn't get copied along with text.

Has kas updated Painterly for 1.9 yet? I know Pre4 just came out, but has he done anything for Pre3 and below?

I can't play Minecraft without it.

He's been chipping away quite steadily at everything that needs doing for quite some time now, but he's been quite busy with IRL stuff. Last I heard he might go ahead and release after he's finished, even though he generally prefers to release painterly for official patches.

Okay, so, I don't haven't been 'doing' prereleases. I know that you can weaponize potions with gunpowder, but did Jeb remove any of the negative effect potions? And are there some that have both positive and negative effects?

Unless jeb added new recipes in the latest release which I haven't tried yet, there are only two negative effects; Slow and weakness. You can't have a potion with two effects now, unfortunately.
