And with their magic bonuses you can be a lizard wizard.

Maybe I can be a sneaky magic cat. Maybe I can use their short blade and sneaky bonuses to sneak up on enemies, blast them with lovely magic and then finish them off with the knife/shortsword. Or something. I have no idea.

Or I can say gently caress it and be a drat dirty elf.

Yeah, that is just about the best comparison. Like in Baldur's Gate, you start out as a scrub rear end outlander swit in Morrowind and eventually become the biggest badass around.

Stamina impacts whether your attacks whiff or not. Try and keep a decent number of stamina potions on you at all times in the early game.

I think at one point I had a mod just to add it to some random merchants inventory because I was sick of trying to stealth kill them every time I made a new game. Also who else rocks boiled netch leather in end game because its so goddamn cool looking?

It's cool to just wear a common brown robe and that hat in the endgame. Maybe throw in double wraithguards.

And maybe a daedric pauldron (only on one shoulder, leave the other one bare. wearing both at the same time is a major faux pas).

You want Haldenshore and Havish by JOG. Old but brilliant quest/city mods that focus on thieves' guild poo poo. Havish is the better mod by far - one of my favourites, actually - but Haldenshore really nails the dingy thieves' guild atmosphere and has a full-scale gambling den, adding an even seedier, smaller ramshackle gambling/smuggling town near Seyda Neen.

The ending of the main game is also just too easy. I wish you got to have this big fight against Dagoth Ur where has a lot of health and you have to actually use all those obscure spells and so on, instead you fight him once in a weak form and then you can just run from him and destroy the heart. At least Tribunal did that part right with a big straight up fight at the end.

I always liked Tribunal more than Bloodmoon, which I guess is kind of an uncommon opinion. Like you got to run around in the Clockwork City and you got to crash some random theater's play and you got a pack rat and everything.

it seems like they didn't realize how incredibly powerful you can get and didn't scale the final boss to compensate, you can tell because everything in the expansions is way more difficult (gaenor), especially bloodmoon. those wolves in the final maze kill you in like two, maybe three hits

Tribunal had SEWERS though... I still prefer bloodmoon because you get to build a town. Reminds me of Soul Blazer. Speaking of, my raven rock quest is broken at the final stage because the rear end in a top hat you talk to in fort frostmoth has disappeared and i cant get the console to work properly to make him spawn again. Specifically, I can't make quotation marks in game, even though I'm using a US keyboard and settings, the key which has the quotation mark on it just produces a colon instead. Anybody know how to fix that?

It just felt like they forgot something at the end of the main game. There should have been a mandatory fight with Vivec too. Unlike Dagoth Ur he's actually pretty tough and wouldve made the perfect final boss. Then after he's dead you get to deal with the Ministry of Truth.

But that's easy septims for you, not to mention (blatantly overpowered) starter armor. I slightly prefer Tribunal for the Mournhold aesthetics, though Raven Rock is awesome just because you have a hand on its development.

If you could kill the guy that attacked you. Sometimes he'd have a nasty jinkblade that he couldn't miss with while you were armed with a sharpened, damaged stick and wearing nothing but a sock, a shirt you made out of a sack and some glue, and a piece of paper with "PANTS" written on it. Tribunal had some bizarre balance to it and made gold completely trivial once you could consistently beat up Dark Brotherhood dudes. If you needed 200,000 gold for some enchantment you just went down and hammered on assassins and sold their armor until you had enough money. The story was rad but a lot of the mod was kind of dumb.

Lunchmeat Larry
Nov 3, 2012

Mournhold was cool but the balancing and story were idiotic. Hm, okay, I can choose to serve either a sexy goddess lady or the King who tried to have me assassinated. Hm, okay, sexy goddess lady is clearly batshit insane and wants me to flood Mournhold with ash storms for no reason whatsoever. Can I side with the King after all? Nope, but when I asked him why he sicced assassins on me (the reason I came here in the first place), he says "I dunno lol" and I say "lol kk" and now I'm railroaded into helping the crazy goddess do stupid poo poo because she's my ex and someone on the writing team was going through a very strange time with his estranged wife, and also the sewers are full of goblins with wonky wooden clubs that do more damage than legendary Daedric warhammers. Tribunal is salvaged by all the cool things to discover and get involved in around the city.

Bloodmoon is overall really good but weird as gently caress, nothing about the setting or lore fits into the game in any way whatsoever and even a lot of the models and textures feel like they're from a completely different aesthetic. It's a bizarrely disjointed experience, but hey, Solstheim and Raven rock are fun.

I can't answer the question on a comprehensive rebalance but I always have a plugin running to delay the Dark Brotherhood attacks until I'm a higher level and it makes greater (thematic) sense.

I disagree on this. Helseth sends the DB after you because he hears the emperor has sent a potential Nerevarine to Morrowind, and anyone who can even convince a few followers that he's Nerevar returned is going to be a threat to his hold on the throne. He would want to snuff you out before people know who you are. Killing you after you're powerful and running around making everyone like you and getting great houses on your side and such is just going to make people mad at him.

OpenMW is getting some great performance increases thanks to the new OpenScene Graph renderer the team is using. Currently with OpenMW I am getting a rock solid 60fps and cells load near instantaneously. This is pre-optimization pass too. I never ever got performance this smooth in vanilla Morrowind.

For anyone that's interested, here's the latest test build that somebody on the OpenMW forums had compiled that I'm using personally at the moment.
