My favorite TMV song is Frances the Mute. That fuckin' climax blows my mind every time. Shame about the four minutes of clanking chains that I skip through every time though!

That Tetragrammaton cover is beautiful. Miranda's really good too, but yeah, anytime she's autotuned sounds awful.

I've tried, but I just can't get into anything they've done since Frances. Maybe I should give Octahedron another spin?

Oh, I didn't mean the capacity. I mean, the song ends with the beginning of Cyngus... but... wait. It actually kind of fits, I just listened to it. I was talking about replacing Cygnus with Frances but I thought that the ending somehow conflicted with The Widow. I would actually like it to put it either in front of Cygnus or as the last track, but I don't want to remove a song. WASDF fucked around with this message at 04:48 on Aug 17, 2011 |

Old Money is the most TMV of the Omar albums because it was a TMV album before they scrapped it for Bedlam. Some of the tracks have subtle background vocals, and I wonder if the rest of the vocals were recorded as well but never mixed or released? It sounds like it is a finished album besides lyrics. Did they never complete it, or would the complete album be considered Warner Brothers Records property so Omar could only release the instrumentals? I think Old money would have been a killer album, it is killer, but it could be even more homicidal with lyrics. Does such a record exist, and where can I get one?

I believe that when you hear Omar say that an album is "finished", he means that it is waiting for vocals. Old Money, alongside many of his solo releases, have bits and pieces of members from TMV (see Xenophanes for everyone but Cedric). Based on how Cedric is laying the blame for the new album delay on himself, I imagine Omar gives him a mostly-complete instrumental album to put lyrics over a la Deltron 3030. You won't ever see this album with Cedric vocals. Period. This makes me want Cryptomnesia pt. 2 and 3.

And you can listen to it all on one cd.

I got sick of looking the lyrics of TMV songs up online or finding my CD booklets, so I decided to collect all the lyrics and make a book on Lulu. The collection covers everything from Tremulant to Octahedron, including "Frances the Mute", and my best idea of English translations of the Spanish parts. I just got it in the mail today and it looks really good. It was originally supposed to be just for my personal reference because I can't sell their copyrighted material as my own, but I can still sell it to you goons. All of the interior pages are black and white, despite color in the preview. It's only $7.08 plus shipping. Get it here: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/the-mars-volta-lyrics/18165350 I plan to update it when LP6 is released (whenever that is...).

I can't wait to hear Zed and the Two Naughts, especially if it works with the label of future-punk. This album gonna rock, guys. Hopefully we'll hear this song before March 7th, either due to a single release or a preview. If it's on a MLB game, its gotta be crazy.

Yes, Omar once said that he was reticent to play 15-year-old material once again, so it's definitely a bit surprising that they're back. Maybe they were both secretly enthusiastic about it the whole time, who knows. Either way we'll find out more from everyone over the coming days and months, and they should be excellent live, whenever that may be. Just as long as people don't mosh.

I'm incredibly jacked, as Relationship of Command is one of my all-time favorite albums — christ, there's enough energy in it to power a city – but became kind of apathetic toward both TMV or Sparta after their respective second LPs. ATDI getting back together is probably the best news of 2012 for me, if/when they tour, I'm willing to drive or travel anywhere just to see them live. Like many others, Relationship of Command is one of my favorite albums of all time and in my top 3 for the last 12 years or so.

This just made my whole loving day. Relationship of Command and Deloused in the Comatorium are two of my favorite albums ever, but The Mars Volta has been on a steady decline ever since. I'm really hoping Omar doesn't gently caress this up by continuing his position as "band director" or whatever.
