Honestly all I can listen to is a couple of songs by them. The one that sounds coherent, really. Most of their stuff just sounds annoying and noisy. Omar's label holds some other bands that I absolutely love though, Tera Melos is one of them.

And the single is The Malkin Jewel, which means we'll hear both this song and Zed and the Two Naughts (from the MLB The Show soundtrack) before the album's release. The single is to be released on Valentine's Day and Amazon already has the sample clip up for teasing. It's certainly not what I would expect from a Mars Volta clip. The chorus gives me a 'The Raconteurs' vibe. Still, I'm loving pumped for the 14th to hear this song in its entirety. Webbeh fucked around with this message at 14:28 on Feb 8, 2012 |

For some reason it really reminds me of some Black Sabbath song that I can't put my finger on.. The melody specifically. It's pretty cool though and the production sounds like it's been notched up again which is always great.

It's definitely a well put together song (from what I can hear in that sample) but I'm not really feeling it. I guess I just like their proggy side more than anything. Still, I have good hopes for the rest of the album. I didn't like The Widow much either but loved most of the rest of Frances.

Now I'm really anxious to hear it after work. So it's even less like their older work than Octahedron?

Cpt. Spring Types posted:All of that sounds pretty awesome to me. Me too. I like "proggy" Mars Volta just fine but it was getting kind of tiresome. I'm a total deloused fanboy still, and I view their LPs as such: Deloused (amazingly written prog-opera music) -> all the kind of samey-sounding generic ones -> Octahedron (which I wasn't crazy about but at least it was a new direction kind of). There are songs here and there on the middle albums that I do like quite a bit, but I can't really listen to any of them all the way through like I still can with Deloused even though I've heard it a billion times.

This is classic prog-rock mixed with jam band type stuff, and I'm enjoying it immensely. It goes about it in different fashions than most previous TMV stuff, but that's not a bad thing. I really like the drum sounds in it. Although its all compressed and stuff for youtube, but you can still hear they have some really nice heavy chunky drums. That part at 1:39ish where Cedric takes that refrain thing up an octave sounds really cool. Kind of like he's channeling some of that ATDI-era angst.

We'll be hearing a studio-version quality of the song either today (via TMV's Twitter) or tomorrow (via Warner Brothers). It'll be interesting to hear how it sounds uncompressed, since the source of this song is a radio broadcast.

That is very cool. It definitely has a classic TMV vibe, while sounding nothing like anything they've done before. I really like it. Must resist the urge to listen to this to death before I hear the album.

Omar isn't taking the creative and directive lead on this album, right? It sounds like that kept this song more focused. Hopefully there aren't going to be long ambient segments or weird kinda pointless stuff. The couple minutes of doodling between songs on Frances the Mute and the long silence between tracks on Octahedron are in the past, hopefully. EDIT: Content! quote:"The Whip Hand" "Zed and Two Naughts"? So... Z00? The last track is called Z00. yrF fucked around with this message at 17:44 on Feb 13, 2012 |

I'm so loving pumped to hear Zed, which will be the next song we'll hear since MLB The Show should get released/leaked soon. Cedric sounds SO GOOD IN THIS TRACK. And I thought he was at his best on Octahedron, but I was wrong. Way wrong. Yeah, Omar's taking a restrained approach to this album and all albums afterwards. Which, by the sounds of it, means that we get to see some variety. But really, I love that ambient poo poo and Omar's noodly goodness. I listened to Amputechture during my run today and forgot how epic the sax/guitar noodle-fest in Day of the Baphomets sounds. So gooood. Also, I'm in the same boat as most of you - the 30 second preview bummed me, but this track reaffirmed my love for all things TMV.
