Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

Milton disappeared from my game as well, so I feel your pain.

I'm interested in submitting a character, and I wanted to check first - are powered armor sets with a Repair rating allowed or not?

Further question - some power armor gives bonus dice to "feats of strength." Would you be willing to let that assist with Strength requirements for wielding certain weapons?

Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

Funny you should mention that.

In seriousness, I was taking a long hard look at the small Concussive Essence Cannon (Wonders of the Lost Age, p 131), because I figure going all out on ridiculousness is appropriate to Exalted and besides, who needs motes anyway? It requires a Strength of 4, which I'm assuming is all about lugging it around and being able to lift it, rather than crunching someone upside the head with it.

Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

I solved the problem by just taking 4 Strength anyway, so's now I can be a proper space marine Gunzosha Commando.

Not done with questions, though. Has the Old Realm -> High/Low Realm linguistic split happened yet? The timeline's never really been clear on how that worked.

Anyway, if I need to fix anything or if there's anything you object to in here, let me know.

(you have no idea how frigging hard it was to find an even vaguely feminine figure in power armor without boob windows and exposed thighs and arms what the hell internet)

Maeja was very proud of her eyes. One of her cousins had installed them after the accident; Ijan had been surgeon to courtiers and generals, and his work was excellent.

And delicate. It had been long enough that the lenses were falling out of alignment. On top of everything else, she was slowly going blind. Again.

In a sick way, it had been a net gain the first time. She got new eyes, and General Jidai had awarded her a new set of armor, a First Age antique from the general's own collection. More than anything, though, her soldiers brought her back alive.

She'd always worried about it, in the back of her mind. Stories always circulated around the officer corps about mortal troops. Some that left wounded Dragon-blooded behind, some that murdered their officer. The blast had disabled her armor - disabled her, but her commandos had picked her up and brought her home safely, even finishing the mission under fire. Even laid flat on a stretcher with a face full of shrapnel, it'd been the proudest moment of her life.

The disease had killed them all. Forest had been the first, collapsing just after the drop. The docs had checked all of them out before the mission, what with rumors of the plague spreading to the mainland, and they'd all come up clean. But Forest just keeled over without a word of complaint barely hours after the insertion. Shai died a few days later, then Sergeant Bells.

She'd lost consciousness not long after, and then come to surrounded by her soldiers again. They'd retreated to a cave near the drop zone to wait for evacuation, and carefully lined each other up as they died. She'd woken up between Bells and Escalan. Njala was the last one to go; she'd found the woman by the mouth of the cave, curled up in a ball. Rigor had set it, and Maeja hadn't been able to set her down properly. The officer had built a small marker, scratching their names into the stone at the cave mouth, then set off for the nearest center of civilization.

A day's march took her to one of the cities dotting the southern coast. Everyone in it had been dead for weeks. She kept her suit sealed for a day longer, on the off chance that the breathing filters had saved her. Somewhere in the back of her mind, Maeja was surprised that the rotting blood she'd coughed up onto her faceplate hadn't gotten to her before the need for water. She broke the seals and didn't die, and it was astonishing.

She'd taken some non-perishables and loaded up the rest of her suit's capacity with water jugs before setting out. She'd wanted to avoid any more survivors, on the chance she still carried the disease.

And now she was going to die in the badlands because she was slowly going blind in a wasteland. The hot wind touched her face where she'd popped her helmet. The southern landscape spread out before her in a colorless haze, and the blue sky above blurred into a lighter shade of grey. She'd sent a message home, saying goodbye - her hearthstone still worked, but there was no way she'd get a reply. Maeja took another swallow of water and waited.

Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

Anybody got a higher War than 3?

Also, don't Exalts each represent one point of Magnitude or something ridiculous like that? I recall the mass combat in EndOfTheWorld's game was grossly unbalanced in our favor when we lumped all our DB characters together into one unit.

Desty
Aug 27, 2006

Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

Our unit, reading strictly from the rules, has the following mass combat stat block:
pre:
Mass Combat Block
Mag	1	Drill	1	Might	1(5)	End:	3	Atk: 5m/4r	Dam:	4m/3r
Armor: 14	Morale	3
Which actually makes us pretty weak in comparison to fighting individually, even if we do get swarmed. Our might is pretty high because we're Terrestrials with a ton of magical armor and weapons, so there is that, at least. Though for some reason you don't average your armor, RAW, which seems like a really stupid idea - you just add up the lethal soak of all units and divide it by three. I am unsure as to how this slipped by testing, since it means any unit with a whole bunch of dudes is going to only take chip damage every turn equal to the magnitude of the opposing unit.

I have the more optimal combination of War and health levels, and since commander health tracks are what unit health is based on (even if I'm not at max health, which is an interesting thing I did not previously realize), I should probably be in charge. Normally, in a bigger unit, we'd go through a health track equal to mine and once it his Incapacitated, we'd lose a dot of Magnitude and start over. If we lose our one point of Mag here, however, we're boned, so let's not let that happen.

So, goal one: do not get eaten by evil shadow desert zombies. Once we have that accomplished, I think we'll be able to sort out the rest as we go.

Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

Before I post about how we should probably shoot some dudes before said dudes try and punch us, do you want us to keep track of individual motes used to power our ridiculous anime essence guns, or just let the whole thing ride?

Desty
Aug 27, 2006

Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

I based it off the average including my essence cannon and the implosion bow. Without them, I think our ranged attack is Sal's basic damage averaged over four people, which is pretty much just one point.

Professor Nova Sez: Life is a karmic struggle in which the weak are ultimately crushed!

Could be a good way to mash up some shadowland monsters, but I dunno. If you break ranks with us, our mass combat melee ability drops pretty precipitously. Hopefully we'll shoot-murder most of them and then get to dispose of them individually so everyone can have a turn.

Hmm, I kinda like it. Flavor it as Maeja going off and doing commando things while Kesowa does the frontal attacking and I think it sounds pretty sharp. I'm going to take a little longer to make my purchases, but hopefully no more than a day or two. I can also speed it the hell up if we run into a rules situation.

Definitely more WP and Permanent Essence, 'cause running out of juice sucks.

I should probably buy War up to 5, and take some more points in Awareness.

How exactly will Terrestrial War Reinforcement boost my ability to act as a sorcerer during mass combats? It seems more like it'd be used as a general boost to the unit as a whole, since it's "Have my 1st War Excellency for free." Mind, I once looked at the mass combat rules and woke up a few days later leaking blood from my nose, so I am not an expert on the subject by any means.

Okay, operating under the assumption we're still doing 3 XP per 20 posts, our totals barring individual bonuses should be 104 as of the top of page 15. I bought:

Essence 4 (3 months)
Elemental Bolt Attack (2 days)
Stealth 4 (immediate)
Integrity 2 (2 weeks)
Threshold Warding Stance (2 days)
Hopping Firecracker Evasion (3 days)
Virtuous Negation Defense (3 days)
Soundless Action Prana (3 days)

Training times still suck, and I end up with nine XP left over.
