First, congratulation on that story and for the huge contributions and creativity you are making to the success of bitcoin.

Now, of course, time for the other shoe to drop.

It appears the “Bitcoin Conference and World Expo” is not being taken seriously and will serve only to provide cannon fodder for the bitcoin hostile media, statist, academia and other entrenched interests.

Hello Bruce, (Emailed 6-29 and again on 7-22 to bruce@onlyonetv.com)

My business partner and investor, for Bitcoin ATM and Bitcoin Toolbox, Jared Turner (Play N Trade) sent me this curious email yesterday concerning the conference.

“I was reading through the forum and there are some real power players…”

I just looked at the forum and I realized he is being sarcastic and this may be his way of announcing that we may not be attending.

Please consider these suggestions:
1. Remove that forum thread, it is doing more harm than good.
2. Change this event to a ‘Pre-conference meeting’ for planning and technical assistance.
3. Turn the conference over to professionals. The company that runs the VMWorld shows do a great job. Take all their statistics starting in 2004 and triple them and that is what you can expect for the Bitcoin World Expo.
4. Have the conference (two and a half days) in late November or even January. VMWorld holds mini-virtual conferences leading up to the main even. This builds momentum, allows for course corrections, vetting of presentors, and accumulation of promotional content for the media. Then all the vendors will have time to do co-marketing building still more momentum. Don’t worry if half your booth space is empty two months before the show. Most will make commitments and write checks at the last possible moment. Just have volunteers stay on the phone (old fashion phone calls work wonders to fill up a conference). People need time to get visa’s, line up investors, prepare products and presentations.
5. Have the Conference at a Hotel within walking distance of your office. Use your office for parties, interviews, spill over sessions…
6. The conference should not be free. Vendors should pay at least $1,000 for a basic 10x10. Even a floor pass should cost $10 unless they are pre-registered or sponsored by a vendor. This show should be profitable for you and the company running it. The VMWorld conferences became expensive entertainment extravaganzas by 2009 costing $1200.
7. Actively recruit government regulators, academics (ask for white papers), spooks and spies from around the world to sponsor and attend. Ask Gaven to call his contact at CIA to reciprocate and participate. Ask the Bitcoin community to help with this and reward them.
8. Invite politicians from both parties, congressmen & senators (or at least one of their staff) to attend key note sessions. Have a breakout session called “Bitcoin, the future of fundraising; from non-profits to campaign finance”. That will draw them in for sure.
9. ‘World Expos’ tend to draw some seemingly unrelated characters. Encourage that for now. Invite the gold guys to try and woo us back. Invite Yandex, Alibaba, Microsoft and Google.

Once you have a framework then let those in the Bitcoin community who want financial assistance earn their way by helping with some of the grunt work before and during the conference.

I suppose that is enough for now.

btw todd, my post is semi-loving with you. That Bitcoin Conference is definitely starting to sound like OnlyOneTV conference (I know not your words), however trying to change the conference with this post in a public area, makes no logical sense.
