Even though he virtually admits on camera that he's not like that at all and they make him play up the sleazeball role so that the show has a 'villain'. Look at him when he's getting something appraised, and how genuinely enthusiastic and interested he gets. I'd say that's a lot closer to the real Victor.

That's what I thought when I heard what it was worth. I was expecting it to be appraised at more than half what Corey paid for it (maybe even 1/10th) and be pretty common or a fake. But, sports memorabilia always tend to be popular from what I've gathered, especially football-related stuff.

Oh yeah.

They are burning through gun appraisers like nothing. Wonder if they pay these guys jack poo poo and they get pissed and leave the show when nothing comes their way. The latest guy has some pretty bad Alzheimer's.

Found this interesting post on some military board looking for info:

quote:

I just watched an episode of Pawn Stars where some poor sucker brought in a Colt mod. 1873 Peacemaker, screw in frame (all screw in frame pistols were made for black powdeer cartridges, later smokeless guns replaced the screw in frame with a spring loaded button to release the cylinder for cleaning), black powder revolver made in 1884. It was nickle plated and in very good condition. The star of the show told the guy that he didn't think that they were normally nickle plated and had to call an "expert" to evalluate it. The "Expert" looked at it and commented that the loading gate had a different serial number than the frame, bbl and grip frame. His "expert" opinion was that the loading gate had been replaced at some point. The "Expert" put the vallue at between 4 and 6 thousand dollars. The star of the show offered the guy 2 K citing the mis-matched serial numbers on the loading gate. That pistol was worth about 12 K. The "Expert" doesn't seem to know that the numbers on the loading gate are "Batch Numbers" and never match the numbers on the gun. I've been collecting Colts for about 40 years and have NEVER come across an 1873 with a number on a loading gate that matches a serial number. I have several NEW IN BOX pistols that have never been fired. None of the loading gate numbers match. That guy has been screwing his customers big time!

I kinda liked this show, although I was flipping between it and Monster Man. What I saw though, I enjoyed. I'm glad there were some loose items as well as boxed miscellaneous stuff to bid on instead of just mystery suitcases/luggage. Some nice amps and guitars and that painting! I didn't get to see what the items were worth though. I'll see if I can catch a rerun this weekend.

I couldn't find any info on him other than his store is run out of his home in California. So maybe he got tired of driving to Vegas every week to shoot a 5 minute scene. I know his replacement was the Gatling gun guy who Rick drove for four hours to see, so I can imagine that guy got sick of the drive as well.

Or maybe they're getting a TV show or something.

I wonder how many celebrity car enthusiasts (or car enthusiasts in general) are raging about Danny telling Rick to not buy Jackie Gleason's limo because of how much money it'll take to fix the cosmetic problems. I did love the build up before Danny told them the truth since it actually seemed like he was going to give an estimate.

I have a feeling that either he stays in Vegas for a week or however long when they're filming the show so he can be on hand when they need him, or they film all the gun appraisals/buys in one day (like they do with Jeopardy episodes).

Yeah, but if you're gonna try and sell Jackie Gleason's limo, you gotta at least run it through a car wash. That car was filthy.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but I agree that it's pretty bad that they try to bring low prices down even lower. But, to their defense, they want to at least double their money, so they figure that their customers would rather pay $4 than $10 for something as small as a toothbrush holder. Plus, $3 isn't a huge difference compared to some of the prices I've heard for bigger ticket items.

To be fair, it appears to be a one-of-a-kind, so in theory, he can ask whayever the hell he wants. Thing is, something that rare isn't worth what the seller is willing to sell it for. It's worth what a buyer is willing to pay. Take it to Southeby's and see if he get's $50K. That dude in the Cajun Pawn Stars pilot episode that had not one, but two brother sister sets of $5K/$10K notes wasn't asking $650K for one note.
