I can already imagine going to my local comic shop and seeing a hundred people standing around eager to off-load their "vintage" 90's comics because they saw people selling them on that show with Silent Bob.

We already have that problem, I get at least a dozen calls a week from people wanting to sell worthless comics. We do buy them, but only for a dime each and most people flip out over that.

A couple of interesting answers:

Wholesale fruits and vegetables. I owned a produce company, and we exported and imported, my brother and myself. I did that for years.

Did Pawn Stars have new episodes last week OCT 3rd? I was out of town and have not been able to catch up on them.

I was in Vegas and fully planned on going to the shop, but you know Vegas happened

I think the gambling set was a new one.

I wish I knew what the hell these shows seasons looked like, it seems there's new episodes for 3 months, then reruns for 3 months, then new episodes. Sigh.

Thirded. Also, for the guy wondering if last weeks episode was new, I'm pretty sure it wasn't. Btw Sickbeard makes a pretty sweet TV guide, even if you don't use the portion, since it only tracks the shows you tell it to.

Anyone catch the "Behind The Hunt" special for Auction Hunters? It's on Spyke OnDemand right now, really adds a lot of credence to the show and to Alan and Ton. I especially liked their "best finds ever" segment. Alan has this brick of quartz embedded with gold, and Ton has an 80 pound bar of pure silver. Good stuff.

Must not be available everywhere. I'll have to see if I can find it online, maybe on their site or something.

Hello Ladies

So I was tooling around today looking for some Halloween stuff, and I stopped by Jarrod and Brandi's store. It's a wierd mish-mash of some cool furniture, garage sale crap, Outlaw Apparel, and a shitload of Hot Wheels.

I didn't buy anything, but a couple of doors down is a cool used bookstore I used to go to a lot, and I got a Stephen King book for $10.

Too bad this wasn't on A&E. There was a story about a guy who found like 5 million in silver bars for a storage locker he bought for like 10 bucks, but my google-fu is weak.

The owner of the locker supposedly wrapped it all in garbage bags and made the locker look undesirable.

So I don't know if I'm watching a new episode of Pawn Stars, but they're looking at a strait jacket possibly owned by Houdini and the 'expert' they brought in was a lovely magician who lost in 2011's season of America's Got Talent. Thought that was kind of odd that they bring him in as an appraisal expert on Houdini.

No, that's not a new episode. But man I loved that jacket. I can appreciate Houdini for basically being the original magical celebrity.

Didn't they have Murray come look at it? He was a magician long before America's Got Talent was even a show.

I saw it... Chum dressed up as Justin Bieber was the greatest thing ever. The second best thing was the people trying to sell them a ghost hunting kit.

Also, American Restoration is now on at 9 PM rather than 10 PM on Fridays. They moved it back for a show called Hairy Bikers or something that sounds really terrible, but now they're doing two new episodes a week rather than one like they have been doing. The new episodes have been pretty good so far.

They bring in some very shady appraisers for that show.

I don't know if anyone remembers from earlier in the season, but they brought in an autograph expert to look at that Godfather script purportedly signed by Al Pacino. The authenticator claimed it was genuine, but it turned out later that it was a completely different person from Al Pacino who signed it. It was actually one of the film's producers.

The man who 'authenticated' that autograph had a long, nasty track record of authenticating loads of clearly fake stuff, or just plain getting that sort of thing wrong. Yet he still works in the business.

So is Auction Hunters just completely faked? The amount of virtually brand new "manly" stuff they find in lockers is way out of proportion.

They explicitly say in the beginning of the show that this is showing the best of their finds. So basically out of probably hundreds of hours of boring poo poo they're cherry picking the interesting finds to show on TV.

Does anyone remember if there was a lady on Pawn Stars or a similar show who tried to sell her dad's collection of various items from when he his cousin was captured by the Nazis during Operation Market Garden that included a little drawing of a cartoon-y plane getting shot at drawn by a fellow POW? I was watching a new episode of Antiques Roadshow on Monday where they showed appraisals from this last season that were never aired, and some lady had a collection just like that and I felt that the drawing looked really familiar.

Edit: Here's the appraisal on AR.

Yes, this is correct, the guy's name is John Reznikoff.

The Drew guy with the magnifying class is just a local guy I think. I've never heard of him before.

On Pawn Stars tonight, a guy tried to sell them a Penn State 1973 Orange Bowl ring. They wanted to buy the ring (and were considering paying $1500) but ended up refusing it when they saw that the inscription inside of the ring had been removed (the concern was that the ring may have been stolen).

Wonder if History Channel decided to run this episode because of the Penn State reference.
