I think the gambling set was a new one. I wish I knew what the hell these shows seasons looked like, it seems there's new episodes for 3 months, then reruns for 3 months, then new episodes. Sigh.

Anyone catch the "Behind The Hunt" special for Auction Hunters? It's on Spyke OnDemand right now, really adds a lot of credence to the show and to Alan and Ton. I especially liked their "best finds ever" segment. Alan has this brick of quartz embedded with gold, and Ton has an 80 pound bar of pure silver. Good stuff.

So I was tooling around today looking for some Halloween stuff, and I stopped by Jarrod and Brandi's store. It's a wierd mish-mash of some cool furniture, garage sale crap, Outlaw Apparel, and a shitload of Hot Wheels. I didn't buy anything, but a couple of doors down is a cool used bookstore I used to go to a lot, and I got a Stephen King book for $10.

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news...-132444683.html Too bad this wasn't on A&E. There was a story about a guy who found like 5 million in silver bars for a storage locker he bought for like 10 bucks, but my google-fu is weak. The owner of the locker supposedly wrapped it all in garbage bags and made the locker look undesirable.

So I don't know if I'm watching a new episode of Pawn Stars, but they're looking at a strait jacket possibly owned by Houdini and the 'expert' they brought in was a lovely magician who lost in 2011's season of America's Got Talent. Thought that was kind of odd that they bring him in as an appraisal expert on Houdini.

I can appreciate Houdini for basically being the original magical celebrity.

I remember that one, and good job on that guy for like tracking down a photograph of Houdini in the jacket.

They moved it back for a show called Hairy Bikers or something that sounds really terrible, but now they're doing two new episodes a week rather than one like they have been doing. The new episodes have been pretty good so far.

Thought that was kind of odd that they bring him in as an appraisal expert on Houdini. I don't know if anyone remembers from earlier in the season, but they brought in an autograph expert to look at that Godfather script purportedly signed by Al Pacino. The authenticator claimed it was genuine, but it turned out later that it was a completely different person from Al Pacino who signed it. It was actually one of the film's producers. The man who 'authenticated' that autograph had a long, nasty track record of authenticating loads of clearly fake stuff, or just plain getting that sort of thing wrong. Yet he still works in the business.

So is Auction Hunters just completely faked? The amount of virtually brand new "manly" stuff they find in lockers is way out of proportion.

They explicitly say in the beginning of the show that this is showing the best of their finds. So basically out of probably hundreds of hours of boring poo poo they're cherry picking the interesting finds to show on TV.

On Pawn Stars tonight, a guy tried to sell them a Penn State 1973 Orange Bowl ring. They wanted to buy the ring (and were considering paying $1500) but ended up refusing it when they saw that the inscription inside of the ring had been removed (the concern was that the ring may have been stolen). Wonder if History Channel decided to run this episode because of the Penn State reference.
