Dominic White posted:What's wrong with the idea? Just sell unit unlocks and XP boosters, and literally nothing else needs to change. It'd ensure that there's countless players available at all hours until the end of time, too. Just look at World of Tanks - tens of thousands of players online in Europe alone. "In Europe alone" is a bit misleading as the European server gets more traffic than the NA server because Europeans will put up with terrible Belorussian programming more readily than we will. Primarily what is wrong with the idea of it going F2P is that it would completely break what the levels mean as far as trying to find a low level match goes (not sure how much that matters in Ranked play?), as someone could just buy a shitload of the upgraded units and roll you with them. That's really only a problem at the very lower end though. The bigger issue is, people paid $40 for this already and have to get experience for their unlocks on top of it. Someone then getting to play for free and being able to farm unlocks OR pay to get ahead seems a little silly. What would the people who already paid get out of the deal?

Alright, I've just finished an awesome 3v3 with players that I knew, and dear God almighty are flamethrower units insane, amongst other things. As NATO I was holding the left flank of Airfield and I went almost all infantry, with a few tanks and AA units positioned strategically at a distance and managed to hold off waves after waves of (better) units. Whoever said to buy the jeeps with the TOW, thank you: as soon as I had enough point I spammed them and they managed to destroy an armored force wayyyy more expensive than they. And my two M113 Zippo managed to singlehandedly stop two huge human waves coming from two different directions at once.

Bought the game. My ingame and steam name is Shadowlz. Haven't played a game yet because I know I'll suck rear end and I will never be able to show my face in their games ever again "Great gg everyone I have a NOOB on my team!" "Oh great total noob as a team mate there goes my win streak GEEGEE!" "Look at this noob building a house before a well, gg!(Noobhater69 has started a vote to surrender)Y/N" I once joined a DOTA noobs only game and got called a "real loving noob oh my god we lost GG!". Anyway point is I like to play with people I "know" that wont yell at me before I go public games. So someone help me ![]() Also, I have never been to Europe, is it really mostly multicolored grassland blocks surrounded by trees or shrubs?

Add some goons to your in-game friends list and see if anybody wants to do a 1v1 with you. Grass did a game with me earlier, and I still got demolished horribly but at least it beat dragging down my whole team.

I'm just saying that going F2P would be a viable fallback for this game if it does fail to sell. I hope it does well as a retail release, though. As for what people who bought it retail get? Permanent XP gain boost, or maybe $40 worth of credit to unlock units or all that. It's a pretty flexible business model. Just so long as there's some incentive for people to pay money (Tribes: Ascend seems to be doing it well), some people will.

I guess so. I was just thinking that players who paid more would be able to ruthlessly min/ max their decks, but I guess that's going to happen regardless. I'm not sure I'm keen on how you get all the variants of a particular unit you've unlocked for free. Imagine what Pact decks are going to look like when people start unlocking everything. You'll be able to field every variant of T55, T62, T72, T64 and T80. The only thing that'll be missing is the T34

Aah so it is. Actually I quite like the T34. I watched my friend play a game where he moved about 20 of them up the middle and slaughtered a bunch of leopards just through sheer weight of numbers. But since it doesn't have any variants I think the T55 will be the better choice in the long term.

Oh you're right. I thought the T34 was a bit cheaper. Obviously it needs to be 10 points instead of 15!

A machine gun is a pretty big deal to be honest. It makes them more effective against infantry swarms and makes sure they won't get hosed by low-cost helicopters. T-55s on the other hand need some sort of separate AA support if they don't want to get destroyed by gunship or ATGM chopper. For purely tank related things, however, the T-55 is marginally better, but if you're going for as many tanks as possible, put both T-55s and the T-34 in your deck just so you never run out.

The worst thing to happen in multiplayer games is your team mates dropping out. I've played a number of games now where I've hit the enemy hard, killed a command vehicle and watch the game fall apart as one or more of my team mates disconnects or just quits. Feel free to add me if you want to play together, once again my in game name is Grass.

This is perfect building material for Matrix Games to create some sprawling, epic, grand and wonderful tactical mess that'll keep us grognards satisfied for the next two decades. Could I have an invite to the group? http://steamcommunity.com/id/Furohman I shudder to think what it'll be like for new players when people reach high levels. It was bad enough having a group of level 20s grouping up and hosting a friendly sounding game against a bunch of level 5-7s and then complaining about "Unfair play" when one of us lagged a bit (Leading to him leaving and us being completely destroyed by a huge helicopter/tank offensive).

I think the devs mentioned it adding steam friends but I don't do the whole steam friend thing so I don't know if it's working. You can just add ingame names instead, though. Also levels aren't as critical at around 6-7, and they're completely meaningless in terms of gameplay beyond level 10. I'm at level 14 sitting on 32 command stars right now because my current decks for both Soviets and NATO have every unit that I really want to add.

From the more experinced plays, is their a recommendation of really juicy NATO and PACT units to unlock? Like, what is the best PACT AA gun - I went for the Tunguska but I like the infantry options more.

I've only unlocked the KUB (Or something similar to that, it's the base unit for the BUK) and the big problem with it is that each vehicle carries about 4 (Or 6?) rockets and the first volley against a group of helicopters seems to almost invariably miss by a mile, leaving you able to take down maybe one or two air units per vehicle before you need to resupply. Do the later variants come with more ammo and/or higher accuracy?

Rolands are the best NATO AA unit IMO. They struggle a big against long range TOW gunships, but they shut down unsupported or lightly supported helicopter attacks with great efficiency, and since that's all players seem to know how to do these days it's one of the best units out there for dealing with air. If you're pact, go for the extremely long range SAM vehicles. Beyond that, get an armored command unit for controlling frontal zones and another recon unit so you don't run out of recon units in the late game. Other units you'll want for a balanced deck are a decent 40-50 point tank, some sort of cheap AT vehicle, an actual gunship if you're NATO, and whatever infantry types you want to swap in. This lets you have viable options against every deck combination available. Depending on how your deck is set up or what you like doing, you don't need all of those things, but it's the most basic and straightforward setup you can get. e: Also keep in mind that hills and forests can block SAM line of sight very easily, so against experienced heli users, AA isn't as simple as just throwing a vehicle in a forest and never worrying about helicopters again. You can always just buy them with vet if you find them missing a lot. Speaking of which, I find that certain things like ATGM teams and man portable AA are always better with a couple levels of vet. Without it they're so inaccurate that you can't rely on them, but with it they clean house.
