I'm stuck on level 2 at the door with two keys. Unlike the previous two people who couldn't find one of the keys, I can't figure out how to get past that one teleporter that just bumps you back. I found the swtich that deactivates it for a moment, tried running through while it's gone (too slow) and tried throwing a rock past it while it's down but it gets stuck in the teleporter when it reactivates, jerks round in midair a bit then falls back down in front of me. There was an earthquake or something after I hit the button and walked back into the crystal room and I ran round the whole level looking for a collapsed wall or something but nothing seems to have changed. Can't think of anything else.

I restarted because I was not enjoying my Minotaur cudgel bearer missing all the time (even though I pumped his Dex). I'm now running an Armored Human Fighter and an Evasive Human Rogue up front, then an Assassin Lizard Rogue and an Insectiod Mage in the rear.

The front rogue leveled up Assassin enough to get backstab and then I'm taking her up the Dodge list. The back rogue I'm taking all the way up Assassin and I just now switched over to using daggers instead of the longspear. And he throws stuff at range since there's no need for a shield in back.

Magic is WAY more enjoyable with a Numbpad setup. I still have to make the effort to move my right hand over, but casting spells just feels good this way. It'd be interesting to see if Almost Human could somehow just add that in for folks that aren't crazy nuts like I am and do all this nonsense with autohotkey, because it really does make casting more fun.

It took me about an hour and a half to get back to where I was last night, and I feel like my dual backstab party is head and shoulders better than my cliche 4 character party setup (suck it, Minotaurs... your lack of skill points and accuracy has been written off for this playthrough).

Right-click the equipped weapons or hands in the bottom-right hero quadrants thingy. For mages you right-click their glowing hand/wand/staff to "prepare" a spell then rightclick the blue flame thing to cast it.

I'm working on breaking open the Grimrock.dat file to possibly work out how to add levels, and I've got some progress, but there are a few things making it quite a bit harder.

- Who the hell at Almost Human decided to use hashes of filenames as references instead of actual filenames?
- All the levels are Lua, but all Lua files are stored as bytecode, and even a bytecode format the internet haven't seen before. So there's no easy way to figure out how more advanced level features work.

If anyone else wants to play around, here's the extractor source code and a partial list of file names I made before getting bored.

Cudgel minotaur definitely sucks for a while. It is basically the perfect storm of bad accuracy. Low dex, so you have an accuracy penalty (though I pumped my dex too), minotaur have the fewest skill points, so you get little skill-based accuracy to start, and the first blunt weapon you find has a -5 accuracy penalty.

Things get better for it once you level up a bit and pump your weapon skill, and find maces that don't have penalties. There is one behind the locked door near one of the down staircases on floor 3, for instance.

I tweaked a bit this morning again (and will continue to do so). Since it has been mentioned that you can stun-lock enemies with continued hits (rather than slashing all at once) I'm very likely going to remove the "everyone in swings" and "everyone in the front row swings" so I can have finite control over the cadence of attacks.

Probably go with JKL; for left hands 1-4, and then M,./ for right hands 1-4 and see how that plays.

And again, this assumes 1920x1200 resolution and any Numpad spellcasting you want to do means the Mage has to be in position 4 and getting to spells needs to be his right hand button.

Take them on one at a time (I'm sure you're doing this already) in a hallway has worked best for me. I was having problems with my Fighter/Rogue Mage/Rogue team until I slowed down and kept track of passages and where I was hearing the spiders through the walls. Also, try not to read the note that opens the secret area right away. It opens an area behind you making it a lot easier for the spiders to surround you. Find a room with a door or portcullis you can open and close and just pull them back there so you can stop and rest if you're having too many problems with them. Remember, resting while poisoned will still recover health, and you can sit in that closed area and keep resting until the poison goes away too. At least, if you don't mind the wait. If you do it gives you a good place to keep the spiders held back while you run to the stone or make yourself some antivenom potions.
