I can think of a pretty lucrative opportunity for random people to stay as part of a coaching arrangement. I'm sure a lot of people would pay serious money to have coaching from some of the top FG players in the world, plus they get a place to sleep if they need it.

The buttons on my SE are going bad, apparently this is due to the bearings corroding, does anyone know anything about replacing those? I've been thinking about buying a set of sanwas anyway, but having the old ones as spares would be nice and the loaner sticks at the gaming lounge at my college seem to be having the same problem, wouldn't mind being able to fix them on the cheap.

the sanwas just drop in and they are so cheap you have no excuse. I bought mine from lizard licks and have had zero problems. Many other have reported issues with that seller so who knows.

You need these http://www.amazon.com/Sanwa-OBSF-30...28750407&sr=8-8 but not at those prices

I replaced all of mine after they started going glitchy and it was super easy. Get them from whatever supplier you want. It's six screws on the back of the stick and crimp contacts on all the wires.

Be advised: if you get screw buttons instead of snap-ins, you'll probably need a dremmel to nudge a bit of the aluminum stick bracket out of the way.

I actually meant replacing the bearing inside the button. I know a replacement button is only a couple of bucks, but you could probably get a few dozen of those bearings for a couple bucks.

Well, because presumably I could drive out to a hardware or specialty store right now with like $3 and have working buttons in an hour as opposed to spending $30 and waiting for delivery. Further just knowing how to do it seems useful given that the bearings in sanwas also appear to corrode; the sticks at my college are the SSF4 TEs with sanwa buttons, I haven't opened them up to confirm the bearing is the problem but they are malfunctioning exactly like my SE.

If you have preferences for a game, be vocal about it (also if you say you want to play a game and then don't sign up for the tourney you are a bad person).

Forward your ports before the tournament starts. Do it. If you don't and it takes you 20 minutes before you figure out whether you can receive/send challenges you will probably be DQ'd.

But I've never played vsav before!

I'd be interested in these tournaments, but I've never been able to get GGPO working right on my PC (though I haven't extensively researched how to do so, either). Is there a guide somewhere that I could follow?

I'd also ask what people use to get stuff like SFA3 and DS working on their PC, but that's always a kind of gray area that I'm hesitant to ask in a forum.

That's actually another question I wanted to ask. One of the buttons on my PS3 Madcatz SFIV pad (Round 1, Blanka) is stuck and otherwise unresponsive. I've called Madcatz for a replacement button, but they haven't gotten back to me and the last rep I spoke to said they might not have replacement parts for that controller anymore.

So is there a way to order custom buttons, perhaps from this site?

The actual, official GGPO forums have always seemed dead or at best on life-support. Getting it working is really pretty straightforward - the only tricky part is making sure your router is set up right to allow traffic on the GGPO ports. That's the kind of thing that the official docs tell you what you need to do - but not HOW to do it, since it varies from router to router.

The actual instructions are here: http://ggpo.net/download/

If you tell someone what the symptom of it 'not working' here or IRC, people would probably be hopeful as long as you've made an effort to help yourself first.

If you can't log into GGPO for example, it either means: you didn't make an account, or wait for the next server restart to try again, OR make sure you did the correct capitalization of your username because it silently fails (no comment).

Edit: I really really really doubt that the madcatz PADS (not sticks) have user-serivicable parts. I mean, officially anyways.

I guess what I mean by "baby goon pick" is that SFA3 personifies the type of fighting game playable on GGPO that goons tend to gravitate towards playing. It has been released on so many platforms and a lot of non-fg people tend to think of it as a good fighting game (but... it isnt). It just seems to be a popular choice for goon tournies (it has been picked many many times).

Vampire Savior owns though, even though it has been done before. I think good games for a goon tourney are like... Karnov's (Fighters History Dynamite), Breakers Revenge, any vs series game (cota-msh-xvsf-mshvsf[ugh]-mvc1), and Hyper Fighting... then magdrop/windjammers. That's a pretty long list but I don't think that people have really done these games yet for goon tournies.

Is there an actual fix for the horrible frame rate issues in Windows 7? Since GGPO is stuck on an rear end old version of FBA there aren't any of the Windows 7 options that actually fix the problem. I found a few random guides online that suggest doing all kinds of wacky things to your resolution, but none of them seemed to work for me.

That doesn't sound like good news, since I'm on Windows 7 64 bit.

I'll take a look to see if I can get it working, but if nothing else I would be interested in spectating the fights if they're being streamed.

I placed an order with each of them on Monday morning (thanks to FA not having JLFs and Paradise not having the buttons I needed). I got my order from FA yesterday, and I haven't even received word from Paradise if they've shipped or not. Consider me unimpressed for the time being.

I've seen conflicting reports of this - and I'm not even sure if the newest versions of FBA solve it even. Good luck having Ponder ever update GGPO for this.

It just seems like many configs are susceptible, and not all of them find the same solution fixes it. My problem is I have a hard time telling when something skips if it's due to that - so I'm not sure how to really confirm well whether it's been fixed, odd as it sounds. (I play on XP on my main machine, but have another Win7 machine).

From what I read, the most reasonable assessment of the cause seemed to be related to the way FBA is doing its rendering and this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_Window_Manager

Have you tried disabling that, rather than the "run at xyz resolution" voodoo? (I play with FBA windowed, not fullscreen)

Yeah, I mean I've heard nothing but good things, and I'm not going to dock him points or anything for the slower shipping time, but FocusAttack has always been so quick I don't have much reason to order from them except when situations like this happen. Also I'm more antsy than usual because one of the things I ordered is a new microswitch assembly which is currently leaving one of my sticks completely broken. That's cool that they're getting the new silent sanwa parts though. I haven't read any hands on experiences with them yet even though I think MarkMan's been saying he'll write something up soon.
