Hey guys, I've been looking for an old and funny Japanese MvC2 video. It had some dumb comeback at the end of it with Tron against Thanos that played out in slow motion and had the Fatal KO Jingle from HnK play over it, and a bunch of other funny edits inter-sped throughout the video. I can't seem to find it on youtube anymore

I'm not sure I should post this but whatever! This was talked about earlier in the thread, but I don't think you can blame any one group for Capcom's recent fascination for FADC, easy reversals, X-Factor, Team Aerial Counter, Pandora, and the gems system. Whether it be for casuals or the developer's own piece of mind in trying to make a competitive game, I'm sure there are a lot of well thought out design reasons why they keep putting stuff like this in that they firmly believe may make a better game. Speaking as a guy who's mediocre at best though, all this poo poo is loving garbage; unnecessary bloat that makes the game less interesting, and I wish they would stop doing it. That doesn't mean I won't learn the systems and use them to win my matches. It just means that every time I/my opponent activates X-Factor, I go "why capcom, the game already makes individual characters way more likely to win solo than in Marvel 2 did you not think ahead as to how this thing would affect teams that start strong killers like wolv/dante/mags, why do this?" in my mind. Basically what I'm saying is is that I agree with zand. Also, people should probably buy KOFXIII and skullgirls if they feel like I do, because maybe those games won't have terrible system mechanics!

Fenn the Fool! posted:If chess had pieces that weighed hundreds of pounds you'd have to work out in order to play; I don't think anyone here would say this sounds like a good idea. If chess can be an interesting and strategic competitive game with the limitations of a turn based system and without any barrier to entry, then surely a game played in real time can also stand purely on the merits of strategy and reaction time. Perhaps the games we play now would fall flat without difficult execution to pad them out, but I certainly don't consider this a strong point in their design. You do realize that what you're arguing is a tremendous slippery slope right? Zand already brought it up and made fun of you, but up to what point are you willing to dumb down execution? I'm serious. What constitutes the maximum amount of execution that you expect these games to impose on the player? I'm honestly curious.

Also most of us got older and transitioned to genuinely better games period. That said iirc that series was made by Eighting, who have gone on to make the licensed Naruto fighters for Nintendo systems (surprisingly not bad, though they lack a certain "depth" I guess is how I would phrase it), and I'm pretty sure they were contracted by Capcom to develop Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and Marvel Vs Capcom 3.

There's no real reason for Mai from KOF (probably the most extreme example in relevant fighting games) to act or dress the way she does or for the girls of Skullgirls to be designed the way they are either. What I'm trying to say is that the portrayal of many female fighting game characters physically and emotionally (new girl character from Soul Calibur 5 I'm looking at you) is shall we say less than ideal, and I'll leave it at that. I hope the gameplay is good enough to make me forget about some of the egregious character designs, just like how I forget about Mai because KOF is a blast. It doesn't fix the underlying problem and implications, but at least it's something.

Is the community for Tekken 6 for 360 still pretty active, and do goons even play it? Or is the online that rear end? I'm just wondering because it can be had for next to nothing and I'd honestly like to get into the game series before TTT2 drops, be it now or later. Also is King hard to learn?

This seems like a dumb question but why does Tekken Tag 2 not have Kuni, P-Jack, and Regular Ogre? I can understand the latter because he's basically just an amalgam of other movesets but why not the other two? I'm probably forgetting something about the both of them that holds them back from the roster. Oh and Dr. B I guess. Though he was console only so I guess that's why.

So Tekken 6. How the hell do I do anything? I mean that in both the metaphorical and the literal when it comes to this game. So what does the star mean in the movelist? Also is it weird that I return to neutral after doing quarter-circles before pressing the normal, or the move doesn't come out? What should I study for particular characters first, safe strings and launchers? Paul was mentioned as a good starting character and he seems pretty fun, but I also like Lars and Drag, are those decent to start with as well? I'd definitely would like to learn King, but 192 moves is a little rough right off the drat bat. I do have a problem though, whenever I try to do fff+24 I get a regular throw not his knee bomb or his special air grab. What am I doing wrong? Also why doesn't the game tell you what the moves are in the standard combos at the bottom of everyone's list? Yea I guess it makes me work to remember the moves based on look or whatever and there are most likely better combos, but I'd rather Namco throw me a bone instead on these BnBs. Thanks fellas. I was practicing it for a good 30 minutes and made the instant shining wizard come out 3 times. That's not a good ratio, so I'll probably stick to the basics for now. In any case I'll have plenty of time to try to get used to the system in this before Tag 2 comes out.

I have some additional Tekken questions! Oh and good luck on your stick Ergoglobe, poo poo looks intense On Lars I have some BnB down, but I can't seem to get his df+1 into db+2 extension no matter what I try, dashing in on both moves or one of them separately. The Lars section on Zaibatsu has a decent paragraph on it but I still can't get it, so maybe you guys know something about it. I've been sticking to db+2 into silent into 1 or 3 followup and it's been working out though, and I can do his standard stuff off any launcher at this point, though f+1,2,3 is hard to land on Alissa for some reason. Also on Paul, I can't seem to get his standard b+2,1 bound after any launcher. The second hit always whiffs. I'm not supposed to dash in first right because that seems almost impossible. If you guys know an easier way to land some damage from a staple combo I'd like to hear it Do you guys know anything Leo related? Her section on Zaibatsu I had a hard time parsing through for information, while Paul's and Lars' I didn't. I don't need like a big post or anything, just like some general gameplay stuff and a basic combo. I'm assuming her most used launchers are WS+2 and uf+4? And I guess since I'm still posting, how are throw chains broken exactly? Is it the first button on a particular branch? Also, are they not good considering how I hear throws aren't super common in Tekken high level play because of people's ability to react to them? The reason I ask is I'd like to pick up Anna at some point, even though I'm pretty sure it's not a large part of her game.

Thanks to you and cinroth. About this combo by the way. I'm assuming the way Demolition Man works is that you must get the clean hit and also time the elbow strike perfectly in order to get the third strike to even come out right? This is indicated by the glowy hit spark every time I guess? So in order to get the special glowing shoulders version of the ender you just have to have perfect timing of the final move right? Honestly I'm surprised it only does 1 extra damage if you get it. Reminds me of one the intermediate Soul Cal just frames. For awhile I was doing the starter right after bound without dashing in and wondering why it wasn't connecting. The best part is that the sweep can connect but it feels like a 1 or 2 frame link, and you always miss the elbow strike. Was pretty funny whiffing even a just frame shoulder ender on a rising opponent.

I was on a bit of a Skyrim binge but I'm back on Tekken! Been trying out Lili inbetween practicing Lars and Paul because df+2 reminds me of Liz from KOF's DP. So I've been trying to get these consistent: uf+2 df+2 into backturned 1,2 df+3 bound into 323 for 65. uf+2 b+2,1 into backturned 1,2 df+3 bound yada yada for 69. WS+2 into backturned uf+4 df+2 into backturned 1,2 df+3 bound same poo poo for 81. And then basically all my other combos follow the same route of launcher into b+2,1 into backturned 1,2 since I have an easier time landing df+3 off of it than regular 1,2 depending on the launcher. Despite this I have a pretty good ratio of sticking the combos so I'm probably going to keep playing her. So my questions are: Does she a have a tracking move besides f+3? For a wall combo or wall carry combo what should I be looking for? How good are her command sidesteps? I know you can basically get 70 something damage if you land the 3 after it, though I doubt it's safe. What are some of her better moves? I'm just gonna be flailing around hoping to land df+2 or WS+2 and that ain't a good look. Also I'm assuming D+3+4 despite looking like it tech crouches is probably -1 million on block and should be used super sparingly if at all. Am I right about this? I get my 2's and 3's mixed up when typing them out. Edited ThePhenomenalBaby fucked around with this message at Jan 26, 2012 around 16:48 |

Having once again gotten tired of how poorly balanced Skyrim is I decided in what is probably the greatest lapse of judgement in my mid-twenties to play Tekken 6 Scenario Mode. Or alternatively My Date With My Robot Girlfriend: Shipping Yard Edition. It's not great, not great at all. So far the highlight has been watching Hei catch a bullet with his teeth and Lili declare her love of bears. So I guess it's okay for a laugh and to get costume pieces and easy achievements or whatever. Anything I should know about this mode or once I'm done with it can I drop it? More Tekken Time! - I was messing around with Leo again just to see if I had gotten any better at other people's BnB's and surprisingly I have! I have no issue doing her stance cancels, it's doing the While Standings after bound that really get me. Tougher than she initially appears, though df 1+2 x2, qcf 2 is satisfying to land. - I also screwed around with the Mishimas for the first time since I got the game. Is it just me or is regular Jin's just frame WGF easier. I was able to do about three in a row while I was SOL on Hei Kaz and DJ. Granted it's still pretty tough. - I did an actually King combo into iSW...once after almost an hour. It was the most glorious thing I got some Tag 2 questions too actually. What are Jaycee and Jinpachi like and I heard Lars can't do df+1 into db+2 from bound anymore outside of the wall. Is this true?

I've been burned too hard by Capcom what with the recent news concerning SF X T and everything that's happened before this point. I've made way too many posts about this sort of stuff already, but I'm not eating another boring and stupid Capcom fighting game shitfest after playing two versions of SF4 and one version of MVC3. So I guess forget you Schmendrick. I stick to my beliefs and convictions. Buy an actual good game instead of Street Fighter X Tekken for the love of god. At least if you buy Extend you'll be buying the best version of Blazblue you can. Buying SF X T basically ensures you'll be getting a worse version of SF4 while also making me post nothing but disparaging poo poo about any upcoming version of Darkstalkers Capcom manages to miscarry all over the competitive scene. I mean the above in the nicest way possible by the way.

Because it's not about character count. It never is. It's about the way the actual game plays. At least for me. And Ultimate and Arcade Edition continue the trend of Capcom games playing like complete loving junk. Sf X T will continue this trend. A new Darkstalkers will be the same. If having only one new character gets in the way of you not buying the game all that tells me is that you probably didn't like the series enough to keep following it. No offense really. It's your money and you have every right to spend it however you want. You're an adult and poo poo. But you can do better.

Anything that makes fighting games less like League of Legends/DOTA's on the competitive level the better. So no I don't think it's a good idea. I literally just realized the gems system is similar to the rune system in League on a base level so thanks chumbler for depressing me vvv While I do agree with your entire point Waterbed I still have a problem with banning in ranked League on a philosophical level. Why should I be limited in character choice because of a combination of that character being "too good"/you don't like them/the programmers didn't consider all the gameplay ramifications. Just pick a top tier, why limit player choice in any way. Gems/runes is another issue, because the developers need to essentially make the characters weaker in a variety of areas in order for you to compensate in a variety of pre-planned ways in my opinion. It adds a completely dumb metagame to the game itself that I really disagree with. Why not like...make the characters strong? Why is there a walk speed gem when you could...just have a higher base walk speed? It's loving stupid and leads to some slippery slope poo poo that totally sucks.
