Legitimately enjoying the new POD album so far. Is it good? Ehhhh probably not, but it certainly brings me back to my 1998 highschool self blasting Southtown and Rock Tha Party from my 87 Jeep Cherokee alongside Metallica and Limp Bizkit.

I know I posted about them before (few years back), but man, those guys are just loving awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCoh2ibRVK4. They call them "folk-metal" though, imo, it's all just bullshit. It's just plain metal, sung as it was meant to be.

Another sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y-bbtYaY_c, probably one of their most recognizable.

Yes.
Yeah the songwriting's pretty folky even if it doesn't have random fiddles and accordions going off.

Pretty good stuff, at that.

Yeah, this reminds me a lot of other folk metal from the early 2000s. In particular I'm hearing Equilibrium's Turis Fratyr, Thyrfing's Urkraft, and Moonsorrow's Kivenkantaja in the earlier track. It's strange to me that I'm hearing mostly Nordic/Germanic folk influences here, because you had stuff like Negura Bunget hitting the prime of their success around the same period, as well as a lot of central European stuff beginning to hit stride

The one from 2013 mostly sounds like Vintersorg-era Borknagar to me, maybe with some Thrawsunblat or later Woods of Ypres thrown in. Nothing terribly new here, but well-written, and definitely folk metal

It did remind me to listen to this gem again. It's a side project of Blackie from Root, who made a way-ahead-of-its-time pagan folk doom metal album without any "folk instruments". His others aren't this good

Can we get a fun metal beef between bands where they write songs about how they would kill other bands? I want to see Disgorge vs Disgorge. Some nerd rear end power metal bands slaying some dork rear end other power metal band with their enchanted longblades. Cannibal Corpse vs anyone is really what I want to hear.

He had a perfectly good diss track going and then he had to go grade-school homophobe and ruin it.

Meanwhile Paul is still living his best life. My guitar teacher tours with him and apparently he's just the sweetest guy ever.

i just remembered that lich king uploaded the "Do-Over EP" to torrent sites with each song hosed up in different ways. Like on one song all the instruments replaced with mouth noises, or "this is a promo copy" layered on top of it, or one track where all the vocals were backwards.

At one point they also got Bolt Thrower's facebook page merged into Alan West's (old Bolt Thrower vocalist) by reporting it, even though Alan West had switched styles to a country artist. So every time you searched for Bolt Thrower you got Alan West's country project. It was great.

the weird thing about the nwotm bands is most of them were capable of capturing lightning in a bottle, like, once. the warbringer song living weapon whips rear end and the rest of their output is kind of boring. evile has five serpent's teeth and thrasher, everything else is forgettable. but the amount of bands that could string together full albums of bangers was pretty low. lich king was one of them, as was municipal waste.
