Can crust be granted honourary metal status for the purposes of this thread? There really isn't anywhere else to talk about it.

New Wolves in the Throne Room, Celestial Lineage, leaked and it rules. Definitely more atmospheric than Black Cascade, sort of like if you mixed it with Malevolent Grain. Really good stuff so far.

Well, guess I'm not going to bed for a while.

There's also Impaled Nazarene if you want black metal with a grind candy coating.

In all fairness, most metal t-shirts are embarrassing. If the designs aren't cringe-inducing, the slogans on the back usually are. There's always diamonds in the rough though.

I wear a Toxic Holocaust shirt pretty frequently, it's not like anyone can read the font anyway. My issue is more with ugly design and slogans on the back like "KILL EVERYONE" or "DRINK BLOOD 666 DEVILFUCK" that just come off as something aimed at kids who desperately want to alienate their parents.

aliencowboy
May 30, 2003

I can't say there were too many albums that really wowed me this year.

My top two albums by a mile are:

Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestial Lineage
Blood Ceremony - Living with the Ancients

Celestial Lineage grabbed be right away. Listening to it was practically a religious experience and I think it's far and above WiTTR's best work and a fitting end for them as a band.

Living with the Ancients was a bit of a slow burn for me. At first I dismissed it, feeling that the band had abandoned a lot of the cheesiness and the dominating role of the flute that I enjoyed so much from the first album. But, giving it a second chance a few months later, the album resonated with me as a much for mature production than their first effort and I fell head over heels for it.

honourable mentions in no particular order:

Earth - Angels of Darkness Demons of Light I
Bongripper - Sex Tape/Snuff Film
Dopethrone - Dark Foil
Hunters - From Birth to Soil
Thorr-Axe - Wall of Spears
Midnight Odyssey - Funerals From the Astral Sphere
Absu - Abzu
Weedeater - ...Jason the Dragon

Man, I wish. The lighting in that place was great, but there was no professional photography equipment allowed. I've been pretty lucky in the past, but I really need to start checking with promoters ahead of time.

If anyone gets a chance to see Ghost live, do it. Even if you're lukewarm on them. The level of theatrics and showmanship they put on is astounding. I say this in the same vein that everyone and their dads rave on about Cirque du Soleil. Papa Emeritus even gave us communion at the end of the show.

I didn't realize there was another Ancient Wisdom and just checked them out and yeah, they are pretty rad. I just figured the guys I saw liked spelling their name like jackasses.

Good power metal pretty much lives and dies as Helloween's Walls of Jericho and Keeper of the Seven Keys. Manowar can be a lot of fun in an overly-enthusiastic, but awkward 80's pro-wrestling sort of way.

Also the girl doing vocals moved to Texas, but she and I have similar screaming voices so it's do-able.
