I've been on a prog rock kick the last few month, have there been any decent metal releases in the last few weeks? And what did people think of the latest Deceased album? Last new metal albums I bought were the latest Argus and Necros Christos if that helps influence suggestions.

Gr31lly posted:New Deceased is great. Pretty much the flipside of As the Weird Travel On... in that it's death/thrash with heavy metal influences, and it's still got that oldschool heavy metal guitar tone going through all the riffs. Morbus Chron and the Vanhelgd were both releases I meant to pick up and forgot, thanks for the mention! New Satan's Host sounded cool, shame Jag Panzer are no more though. That new Autopsy was pretty drat solid, a slow burner though as the first few tracks weren't that interesting until a few listens. The description of the new Deceased is boner inducing! Not sure if anyone cares, but the new Anubis Gate is also out soon.

Just had another listen to the 2007 Moonspell release where they redid their old EPs. Man, that is some really good material. If you're not sure what it sounds like, it has a similar vibe to early-mid Samael, Triarchy-current era Rotting Christ, and of course their own Lusitanian thing. MrBling, is that Morbus Chron album you mentioned any good? het, the logo looks so damned familiar, but as mentioned it may just be a generic logo, but it's doubtful as the rest of the logos are directly influenced by bands.

Today I am going to talk to you about a band from Australia. Innsmouth If you can't guess what the inspiration for this band is, I am shocked that you haven't been introduced to Lovecraft via your love of metal. These guys dig Lovecraft. They have a demo (The Departure of Shub Niggurath) and 7" (She-Goat) and they're both great. Musically, they can be described as atmospheric doomed-up death metal with the Australian flavour of Armoured Angel and Cauldron Black Ram. When they played a show here in Melbourne it was one of the best I'd ever been to, they nearly caved the floor in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-vsEHy8jio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvjqxrZM64A And now to go across the Pacific and towards California, to where Witchaven are located. When I'm in the mood for some well played blackened thrash metal, this inevitably finds its way into my playlist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux5fQqA76gM Reminds me of watching Headbangers Ball a long time ago. I rewind the song just for the toms. Something about the drum sound on this album really works. The album is really good. fappenmeister fucked around with this message at 07:53 on Jan 24, 2012 |

I prefer older death metal stylings (Autopsy, Death, Swedish DM), because that's what I got into growing up, or appeals more due to the rawness and no-frills attitude. It could be a case of "get off my lawn" because it seems "younger" people tend to enjoy tech death more from personal experience. Tech death usually equates to that plastic sounding perfect engineering job which I can't stand most of the time. No person in their right mind would or can deny the musicianship of bands like Obscura, but it gets in the way of a good tune. Don't get me wrong, there are times where I want to hear musicians wank about, but prefer to listen to progressive rock or metal for that, or Atheist.

Czech bands sound more evil due to their native language, sounds so vicious and full of bile when growled. It's metal (kinda barely) with a fairly legitimate opera singer and compositions with really heavy swing-jazz influence with lots of cello and brass and stuff. Everyone has different taste, but I imagine this band may cater for some who are too metal to admit they like outside genres. The music is quite good, but I'd prefer the pure swing tunes.
