Why do you think Irenicus had to kill him? He's a Dreadnought, and no power on faerun would have kept him from Jaheira or CHARNAME whilst he was alive. Sadly, Irenicus found the loophole in that statement.

This was something I tested a few times back in the day: The only areas you can't return to are Brynnlaw, the sea battle, The Sahuagin City and Chez Irenicus. You can walk right back in the way you came out.
