ChetReckless posted:In Fallout 3 and New Vegas both I found that I could get my save file as big as about 10 mb before the world basically just fell apart. Frame rate would drop to about 5 before it would freeze for about 5 minutes. This was my experience in Fallout 3 as well. I enjoyed the game right up until the middle where you find out what happens to Dad, then I just lost all enthusiasm to continue. I never finished Fallout 3, I thought Oblivion was sort of boring, and I very much enjoy Dark Souls. I enjoy the freedom an open world gives you but only if there's interesting things to see constantly, the game doesn't perpetually freeze and crash, and there's a cohesive story to keep you engaged - or at the very least, good NPCs that help to advance the plot while being unique and well-voiced. So far I haven't really enjoyed Bethesda games because I've found that those three things are generally lacking in their games. I'd like to give Skyrim a chance (probably in a few months when it's on sale), but I guess I didn't really enjoy the other Bethesda offerings very much. Is there any chance I'll find Skyrim much different, or is it really more of the same?

Considering the CoD series has featured the defining FPS gameplay of this generation, I would think being the best in that series warrants some praise? One of the podcasts I listen to summed it up nicely I thought: it's a game that's basically transcended the FPS genre to become its own thing. So if you like CoD, more than likely you'll love MW3. If you're completely bored with what they've done, you probably won't like it. I think it's similar to Assassin's Creed: the games don't dramatically change every year, but the end product is always quality and the people that want more of that game year to year (me, for example) love it. Revelations could possibly change all of that, but the one review I've read so far makes it seem like it's a good game. I have no idea what Kotaku is doing, though. I unsubscribed to their RSS ages ago and have been happy since. Same with most of the Gawker sites, actually, excepting io9 (and I'm probably gonna drop them soon).

Just so you know, according to The Drop, this week Red Dead Redemption is coming to PSN. This is also the last week where you can split a psn. Also, if anyone in my share group is reading this, please don't get it.

Hopefully that means more people play RDR, because drat does RDR own. Hadn't been on the store for a while, and I saw Black Ops is on there for $60. I... what? Come on, MW3 just launched. Mark that poo poo down to $50 or $40. [yeah, I know...]

Not that I have friends, mind you, but the idea is appealing. Maybe I could train one of my cats to use a DS3.

I loved ACII, and Brotherhood was certainly decent, but Revelations is a "eh, maybe it'll be on sale next summer" game for me. Is anyone really.. psyched or interested that a new Assassin's Creed game is coming out tomorrow? What with people still playing Arkham City, Skyrim, and Saints Row 3 tomorrow - it seems like it's going to be lost in the shuffle. Personally, I thought that Assassin's Creed II was a big step up from the original, but these incremental sequels (Brotherhood, Revelations) are just taking a step down in quality each time. I hear ACIII is already slotted in for next year. I think they need to stop with these one-year turnarounds before people really get fatigued.

I really really enjoyed AC2 and AC:B and would normally be picking up AC:R right away, but there are so many drat games to play right now I think I'm going to hold out and wait for it to come down in price a little bit.

Honestly this was an awful time for them to release Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom and a new Assassin's Creed not quite sequel. I personally would be all over MVC3 if it weren't for the fact that Mario came out on Sunday and on Tuesday is Saint's Row 3 and Rayman Origins, not to mention the fact I haven't even beaten Arkham Asylum, tried Uncharted 3's multiplayer or done a second run through of Dark Souls. It really would have helped it they had actually waited a year before releasing it, but they got impatient and now their coming out against much tougher competition. I feel really bad for King of Fighters, which I believe it coming out next week and no one is going to buy.

If I was to play either of them, I would finish Brotherhood first though. But with Dark Souls, Skyrim and Saints Row 3 to play too... Brotherhood has the biggest cliffhanger of the whole series. You bet your rear end I'm excited for Revelations; I need to see how that batshit insane story actually ends.

I don't know why, but I'm having a really hard time liking Uncharted 3. I'll preface this by saying Uncharted 1 was one of my favorite games for the entire first half of this console generation, and I'd consider Uncharted 2 possibly the best 3rd person shooter ever made. I'm not even referring to the combat, I'm actually talking about everything else about the game. This one just seems so... uninspired. Maybe I'm just tired of the characters? I feel like they haven't even put in a little bit of effort into changing up the formula. In the first one all of the surprises, plot twists, jokes, and small quips were novel. In the second they reused a lot of the same tricks, but they were amusing as throwbacks to the first game. This time it's still the exact gameplay tricks, story twists, and dialog, but I don't find any of it amusing anymore. It's no longer surprising when every other structure I'm climbing on collapses and I frantically grab the ledge narrowly avoiding death yet again. I can predict exactly when Nate is going to makes a quip about how his adversary literally has an army at their disposal, and instead of finding it endearing like I did with the last times, I just get irritated that I was able to predict the line. They've hardly changed anything except the background scenery, and all of the re-used lines, gameplay segments, jokes, and character stereotypes are really starting to grate on me. Not to mention the combat in this one sucks. They brought back the infinite waves of enemies from the first and added a horrible melee system that has you mashing the same buttons over and over to watch the same 3 canned animations on repeat. At some point tonight I just noticed I wasn't enjoying any part of the game. I was rushing through the fights to try and experience the other aspects of the game, only to realize I was bored by all the stuff I used to find so charming.

What did people think of Rush'N Attack: Ex-Patriot? I played the demo last night and thought it was pretty good! Metroid Gear Solid, essentially. Seems like they took three signature things from the first Rush'N Attack (a knife, picking up limited ammo weapons, freeing POWs) and went in a more modern direction with it.

The characters, banter, and storyline are pretty much the only things that kept me playing. Think back to how many times this conversation took place in the 2nd game: Person 1: "drat, this door won't open." Drake: " Hold on, I'll find another way around." I started played the Prince of Persia HD collection on Sunday, and the climbing segments in there are leagues ahead of Uncharted as far as complexity and variety.
