One of those debug screens also appears to mention a Carmelita character (presumably from Sly Cooper). I really hope this is real, and I really hope it's awesome. I've been dying for a Smash-styled game with good online for a long time, and maybe they'll even find ways to improve the formula, something I thought they pulled off with the actual racing in ModNation Racers.

I don't think Sony has any official first/second/whatever party ninja characters (aside from that new dude in Sly Cooper 4) but if we want to get into PlayStation exclusive third party franchises then they do. Shinobido is Sony's exclusive ninja franchise made by From Software. There's even a brand new entry to the franchise coming next month: "Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen", which is a launch game for the PlayStation Vita.

Don't forget Sackboy/sack people and the Modnation racer characters as well! This is hilarious because the rumor's true. Paul Gale, just who are you Is Crash Bandicot still a Sony character? I'd also really like to see Sir Daniel Fortesque from Medievil, Wander, Ico and Fumiko (Heavenly Sword) represented as well. I remember when Super Smash Bros. came out I immediately started drawing and writing move lists for Crash Bandicoot, Lara Croft, Spike (Ape Escape), and Sweet Tooth (in the ice cream truck). Maybe I'm hoping for too much but maybe if they included lost and forgotten characters it could resurrect some of these franchises....I just really want another Parappa The Rapper game drat it.

The chances of that game actually being good are slim, unless they directly copy Smash Brother's formula. Smash Brothers clones sneak in here and there, but they all suck, because they try to change the formula up and just aren't anywhere near as much fun. Also I feel like the development team puts a whole lot of love and an insane amount of time into each Smash Brother game. Come to think of it, there actually already has been a Smash Brothers-esque 4-player fighting game that used some Sony characters like Solid Snake, but it never came out in America. I also heard it sucked.

Yeah, the AC2 stuff was entirely outdoors overworld stuff I think. One was so forgettable I couldn't even tell you what happened. Bonfire had you go around to kill like 9 guys, mostly in restricted areas. Basically they were like the Templar Captains for the Tower/Den takeovers in Brotherhood/Revelations. Not exactly the most thrilling gameplay.

Aphrodite posted:Yeah, the AC2 stuff was entirely outdoors overworld stuff I think. Ew, yeah, that's just quick and dirty filler stuff. DLC in general is still in its infancy, and I'm curious to see how it'll look in a few years. There are plenty of (perfectly valid) complaints about stuff being held back for DLC (even if a lot of it is conjecture without actual proof, but I've seen more than a few examples of it in practice to know it's unfortunately something that does absolutely happen). I absolutely love when devs take their time, though, and put out something a few months later that clearly shows they gave it thought and effort. DLC can be used to amazing effect to keep a game relevant and interesting or even help to link it to future games, but it does take a lot of manpower and careful pre-planning, sadly. It's still much more financially wise to just move the entire team over to the new project rather than leave a skeleton DLC crew, but that makes me appreciate stuff like Mass Effect 2's Shadow Broker mission that much more. I can only hope in two or three years that the practice will have solidified in a way that makes it a viable option to really reward people who picked up the game with something that continues the story down the line rather than this online pass nonsense, but of course I'm not foolish enough to think anything but whatever makes money will be the primary motivating factor. The statistics of people who actually finish a game are absolutely pitiful, so I understand the apprehension. But hey, we've really only been able to do this for one generation (PC expansion packs notwithstanding), so maybe the lessons learned here will have ripple effects when we take the inevitable leap into future hardware launches.

I'm just chuffed that the game is being made. It's like somebody saw my posts a while back when I mentioned how cool the concept would be and thought "Let's make that!" ![]() As for Smash Bros itself, it's just a fun game to play with friends in my opinion. Whether or not the gameplay is actually akin to Smash Bros, the concept of "Sony Smash Bros" has been talked about since the PS1 era. For all we know it could be some sort of Marvel-style game or something like Jump Ultimate Stars or that new ArcSys' Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan game with it's greater emphasis on combos.

The ability to pull your characters off the portal and put a new one on, instantly replacing the character in-game, is pretty sweet. That said, you only get three characters, and there are many areas in the game that you will not be able to go to because you don't have the right element. It's also a fairly simple, repetitive title (with text that scrolls so. drat. slowly). But it's still decent fun, and great for younger gamers.

gameday posted:I love AC, but with all the game releases recently and upcoming, I won't have time to play this. Ever. Will you kindly spoil the ending that you think might tie into AC3? The tomb is a temple built by followers of Pythagoras (Who in AC lore had a Piece of Eden) that gives you a number. To Ezio and Leonardo it means nothing, but it's actually GPS coordinates to a lake in a New York state park. There are two theories I've found on what it means. One is that very close to that lake is a place called Bonaparte's Cave. Napoleon's brother fled to the Americas after Napoleon's exile (That much is fact), and the local legend is that they hid in that area for a time from assassins. Given the 2 French Revolution symbols you find at the end of Brotherhood proper, there could be something to it. The other is that apparently the lake is right outside the town of Turin New York, which forms a Right triangle (Aka a Pythagorean triangle) with the towns of Rome and Florence. This feels a bit on the nose for me, though. This page has a picture of it.
