Just so you know, according to The Drop, this week Red Dead Redemption is coming to PSN. This is also the last week where you can split a psn. Also, if anyone in my share group is reading this, please don't get it.

Honestly this was an awful time for them to release Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom and a new Assassin's Creed not quite sequel. I personally would be all over MVC3 if it weren't for the fact that Mario came out on Sunday and on Tuesday is Saint's Row 3 and Rayman Origins, not to mention the fact I haven't even beaten Arkham Asylum, tried Uncharted 3's multiplayer or done a second run through of Dark Souls. It really would have helped it they had actually waited a year before releasing it, but they got impatient and now their coming out against much tougher competition. I feel really bad for King of Fighters, which I believe it coming out next week and no one is going to buy.

So...this is pretty cool. Essentially THQ promised that the PS3 version of Saints Row 3 would get some sort of exclusive content and then forgot to add it, so to make up for it, if you redeem your online pass within the next 90 days, you'll get a free download of Saint's Row 2.

Stelas posted:I think Dark Souls can only get away with their save system because the game makes dying and restarting a vital component of the gameplay, and because it has a series of checkpoints it can benchmark your progress on. It wouldn't work at all in an open world with persistent deaths, people would lambast them for the lack of manual save. Y'know...it is possible to have a game that constantly autosaves AND has the option to manually save.

I want something I can play when I have friends over with some beers and weed. We keep taking turns on BF3, but its boring waiting for a go. I miss the days of split screen Halo tournaments. Can't go wrong with Scott Pilgrim or Castle Crashers when it comes to beat em ups. For fighting games Marvel vs Capcom 3 or Soul Caliber are probably the best to just pick up and play with no real clue what you're doing. Lara Croft is one of the best co-op games I've ever played. Warhawk and Fat Princess have local co-op where you can all go online.

Ahem No one ever pays attention to me... I like how this stroy kind of shows how poo poo game journalism is. Most sites are reporting this as if it was the planned extra content when it's clear that THQ just forgot and are throwing this in to make up for it. The difference between those two things isn't huge, but it just shows that most sites just parrot the press released they're handed.

Naughty Dog have managed to make all three Uncharted games in the gap between Shadow of the Colossus and Last Guardian. Insomniac have made three Resistance games and three Ratchet and Clank games before Team Ico have made one. As much as I'm looking forward to Last Guardian, I would understand why Sony is probably losing it's patience.

I'll start odd with the normal Dark Souls/Demon's Souls recommendations. They're hard as hell and they might not be for you but if it clicks with you no game will be more satisfying. I noticed Uncharted isn't on that list, so if you haven't played them, do that. Also A Crack in Time is even better than Tools of Destruction as far as Ratchet and Clank games go.

Tamagod Sushi posted:Game reccomendation question! Has anyone played Castlevania: Lords of Shadow? Is it any good? I played through it and while it has a few cool moments, it just wasn't very good. The main combat gimmick never felt that interesting and in general it always felt like a duller GoW. The best parts are the SotC ripoff moments but even one of those isn't very good and at best they play like far worse versions of what they're copying. The game has an awful camera that you have no control of for no reason. In GoW you can't control the camera because the right stick is used for rolling, in this it is used for nothing. The platforming isn't fun (and I have low standards for platforming). Also the plot was one of the worst written I've played through this gen (and I've played Hyperdimension Neptunia!). The plot has one cool part, but it comes after the credits and makes you just want to play that game instead.

I can't think of very many games with that big a gap between how well people think of it, and (I assume?) how badly it did sales-wise? There are truck loads of games that did not do great in sales, yet are beloved by lots of people. God Hand, Okami, just about every SNES RPG, Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Stranger's Wrath, The Dreamcast as a whole, Eternal Darkness, all the Panzer Dragoon games, Jet Set Radio Future, Alpha Protocol...I could go on.

I am always confused by the aggravation people express over Uncharted. I don't remember having any problems with it at all and I think that was literally one of the third person shooters I played. All throughout the the PS2 gen the only shooters I really played were the Ratchet and Clank games and the second two Jak games, so it's not like I'm particularly good at shooters and it was definitely the first cover based shooter I played. I also didn't play it the right way. I played it as a cover based shooter and stayed in cover most of the time. I really like the shooting too. I had fun with it and I couldn't be bothered to finish Gears of War so I dunoo. Yes I died, but that's because I sucked and not because the game is BULLSHIT. I should note I was playing it on normal difficulty and maybe Hard and Crushing are all sorts of bullshit but if you put the game on hard, why are you complaining that it is hard?

I think the ability to turn it off was later patched in when they realized how much everyone hate the sixaxis. On a not even related to the PS3 note, I'm currently playing Ar Tonelico II because I think someone in here said it was good. I really want to hate this game but god damnit it's just so fun. It really might be one of the creepiest games I've ever played though. Thinly veiled references to deflowering a 10 year old girl are...not cool. Not cool at all. All the thinly veiled creepiness is not helped by the fact that the translation is one of the worst I've seen in a long, long time. Still, I'm playing it and despite all my better instincts I'm having fun. If I made it through Hyperdimension Neptunia, I can make it through a game that's actually fun.

Really, eveen then only the first blue meanie fight is that hard. The second one gives you ready access to a Gatling gun and a crossbow (which can kill them in two hits) and the third one gives you access to the other two and an RPG. The first one is probably the hardest fight in the game though.

Okay, poo poo...I think I have a problem. It won't let me activate the share account because it's already active on at least two other PS3s and because this is a new PS3 I think it's not working. If you're in my share group and you're reading this, what I need you all to do is manually deactivate your systems so I can try and get back in. You should be able to get on no problem because your systems have a history of being active but because mine is new, it won't let it in. I need at least three of you to do this and hopefully it'll work.

ImpAtom posted:I was thinking of the PSP games there actually. in particular, Chains of Olympus has a scene where he oh-so-tragically sacrifices eternal happiness in order to protect reality from being destroyed and then returns the Sun to the world. It feels... off. I think it works there because it's kind of before the end of God or War, which I feel is his breaking point where he goes from being an rear end in a top hat, to an rear end in a top hat that wants to take everyone down with him. I mean in the end they won't even let him die. They tell him not only will they not relieve him of his pain, but they won't even let him end his existence. In fact they just give him more responsibilities that he doesn't want. Also, in the end of Chains of Olympus, he wouldn't have gotten eternal happiness if he had not acted. It's pointed out to him that he's damned in either situation. Really, I think CoO, like the original, worked well in setting why he's such an rear end in a top hat that just hates everyone. I think there's a difference between humanizing him and making him the hero (which is what they awkwardly kind of but not really did in III). On an unrelated note I finally beat Ar Tonelico II. Why was this game so good? There's so much to hate and the translation might be one of the worst I've ever seen, but man is this game fun. It also contains two of the best boss musics I've ever heard (which is saying something). axleblaze fucked around with this message at Dec 28, 2011 around 20:44 |

Dark Souls has one area where it feels like they completely ran out of ideas and made something that is just kind of stupid and not interesting. This area is also entirely skippable though. Overall though, in what will probably go down as one of the best year in game history, Dark Souls was still pretty easily my favorite game.

From what I understand they're trying to shake things up a little with this new one. It takes place 20 years later and a good chunk of the main cast is gone or just different. The gameplay looks very Soul Caliber like but it looks like they're throwing in some projectiles and stuff which would make things be kind NOT Soul Caliber like. I'll probably end up getting it despite my misgivings on how lazy the series has honestly been since Soul Caliber II.
