Ok so I've been playing some of the Uncharted 3 multiplayer via that early access thing and yeah, game of the year right there.

Why did I waste money on Gears of War 3 and an XBL renewal

Really? I really loved the single-player campaigns of the Uncharted games but this beta doesn't seem much different than UC2's MP, which basically sucked. Maybe I just stunk at it or something but it mostly feels like a bunch of idiots sprinting around until they find someone and then the better load-out wins - or people do a ridiculously poorly controlled dance around each other and throw grenades at impossible angles and swing wildly with the melee attack which doesn't kill anyone until a full second after it connects.

I like that the jumping and climbing elements are intact from SP but I think the introduction of these power plays is basically an admittance that the multiplayer is an unbalanced goofy mess.

Not to tell you how to play, man, but really, chill. You're doing fine. The game's not going to explode if you don't do everything perfectly. You're going to miss some evidence, you're going to fumble an interview, these things are going to happen, but the investigation still goes on. If it helps, you can replay any case when you're done and try it again, but in the meantime, you're doing fine. Trust your instincts and don't rely on the game to tell you you're doing good, because you are.

In fact basically it doesn't matter what you do at all except a grade they give you at the end! LA Noire and Dragon Age 2, pioneering ways to make the player powerless, incompetent or just a replaceable cog in the gears of their narrative.

(which is expected in action games but adventure games and RPGs should be held to a higher standard)

Why is it a bad point? Because I think the way it aligns both the player and the player character against the in-universe establishment that's forcing them to make bad choices is a legitimately clever device for a video game to use, and one that wouldn't work at all outside of a video game.

It only aligned me against the game's designers for making my avatar be retarded. It's the video game equivalent of seeing a watching a horror movie where the protagonist is given every bit of information as to who the murderer is but then we're forced to sit and watch them make stupid decisions until they're ultimately killed. Makes for a lovely movie. Makes for an even WORSE game because the supposed advantage of video games is that the player has some sort of control or involvement in the game.

The best-case scenario in a large part of the game is failure. The only control the player can exert is failing to maximally fail. The better you are at playing the game, the more wrong you are!

Or it's kinda like if you played Final Fantasy 4 and an entire quarter of the game was those unwinnable battles

Is it an all new engine? The character creator feels like the controls are just as spacey as the second one and the characters are, like, 15% improved. All the clothing options are still hideous and the less said about the animations, the better. It really turned me off the game, I bought Skyrim instead.

I'll wait for the deluxe edition, thanks very much. I got burned on the DLC for Saints Row 2 and the new character creator betrayed that they haven't bothered to improve the lovely character models or animation much if at all. Compound that with the painful juvenilia and all the wacky poo poo-spraying in the world isn't gonna do it for me.

lovely animation? You must be thinking of a different game, the animation in The Third is pretty good. The models themselves are an improvement over the second game's for sure.

I preferred The Simpsons to that Turtles in Time reskin because at least The Simpsons was how I remembered it, warts and all. While I appreciate the reskin of TiT, the lack of some of the moves and levels the SNES version had really soured me on it.

Lightning of Genius and that being the French mag makes me think it's a new title from that Heavy Rain weirdo which would own.

Sony just doesn't have the same roster of characters to make it nearly as appealing. They've got like 8 signature characters at best and very few of them fit together thematically/stylistically. Cramming a bunch of Killzone and Resistance nobodies in there to pad out the roster is just gonna make it more schizophrenic.

Yeah I just played three games of Awesomenauts having no idea what it was going into it. Basically like a 2D platforming DOTA?

I ended up winning the third game only because the huge tank guy on the other team disconnected. Prior to that point they'd pushed through two of our turrets and were like a couple minutes from destroying our base. This despite the fact that I had six kills and no deaths and had basically spent the whole game being very conservative and trying to push creep and play defense. Another guy on our team was like 12-6.

Everybody on the other team had maybe 2 or 3 kills and like 5 or 6 deaths. All I can assume is that the giant tank guy is so overpowered for pushing that they can win the game simply by flinging their bodies at our turrets regardless of how many times they die. Pretty dumb.

I hit level 4 overall and the reward was like a free 200 energy for every game I think? Doesn't bode well for team balance to just give people that play more a starting advantage like that.

Also I fired up that Pixeljunk demo thing and the one person online streaming was awful. Or the game itself is awful, hard to say. There were some lovely polygons and dots and a lovely song in the background.

I liked All-Stars in theory but if you just watch Sweet Tooth in that video... he jumps around and does the same plant mine move over and over and over and over again and it looks boring as gently caress. Then he gets the level 3 super and wins the game thanks to his boring-rear end tactics.

Maybe they planned that to show off a level 3 super or something but you'd think they would've wanted to show more dynamic, exciting gameplay than someone cheesing a single move.

So they finally updated the Store (on Wednesday ) and -- as expected -- the second episode of The Walking Dead is still nowhere to be found. For Telltale to sell the game by saying that new episodes will come out "monthly" and then taking nearly two months between episodes is unacceptable. The first episode came out on April 26 and they still haven't explained themselves or given anybody a date or even an estimate of when the second episode will actually come out.

Could've told you it wasn't coming out weeks ago being that they haven't announced its release date, or you might have noticed it wasn't released on Xbox yesterday (or PC for that matter). But I'm sure it doesn't make any difference to you as this unacceptable behavior will surely compel you to forego buying any of the new episodes. Just forget about it, it'll be out when it's out. I think in the end Dead Space and Dragon Age are going to be linked in how EA ruined their respective franchises. I'm willing to bet after the first games were surprise hits, the developers were told to tweak the games to make it more accessible and thus attempting to get higher sales. Both DS2 and DA2 fell short from their predecessors and started to stray out of the original genres. With Dead Space 3 looking worse and worse as we get closer to it, I can only wonder how bad Dragon Age 3 will come out of the gate. Bioware has fallen quite a bit since getting acquired by EA.

I don't think you can call Dragon Age a "surprise hit." If anything they were disappointed by it not crossing over from the target audience into the NEW poo poo demographic, hence the direction of Dragon Age 2.
