Getting in on this, gonna try out vanilla wow before the server inevitably gets shut down. Thinking about rolling a death knight, how were they in vanilla?

I don't think it's likely this one will be shut down anytime soon, although no guarantees of course. The ones that Blizzard usually slams are making money in some way, be it through donations or advertisement or whatever. I know a couple other servers I played on a few years ago that are still up and running today; as long as ReBirth doesn't start doing the donations->items crap it should be safe. Also I don't know if you're trolling or whatever but there were no DKs in vanilla.

Currently trying to rebuild my old database of good quests for Mages to do, good gear to gun for, how to play a Mage preTBC, how to Raid when 75% of your spells will never connect due to resists, and all that other fun stuff. Just wondering if anyone would be interested in something like this, or interested in helping. I for one would find this pretty handy. I don't know how much I could help but I'd be willing to do what I can.

Dinadass wants a pet. I was too busy laughing every time you all crashed to do anything but oh well. Mage is not an awful class in vanilla. They are top tier raid DPS and powerful in PvP. Vanilla PvP was extremely rock-paper-scissors, and the PvE side wasn't as balanced as it is now (which I think makes it more fun, because outstanding players of various classes can really do some amazing things) but Mages are in pretty good shape in either side of the game. You're pretty much forced to raid MC/BWL as Frost, and in Naxx (and possibly AQ40?) you'll be Fire. PvP you can either be a 3-minute mage (AP-PoM-Pyro) or a Frost mage that kites warriors for days and is a great area denial build. No matter your spec, any half decent warlock will still bend you over though.

Vanilla or not, you know this would be useful, support if you agree. http://www.therebirth.net/forum/vie...03&p=1912#p1912 FreakyUno on the Rebirth.net Forums posted:Duel spec was one of the coolest things live ever did. It was all "your" class mechanics, so nothing changed - but they took the "dumb" out of classes that had a dedicated PvE and PvP spec. I really liked it. Not quite as simple, but if you were really considering this: Make an NPC near each main cities faction class trainer that has free respecs. Not ideal but well worth it for the feeling of talent freedom.

Vier posted:Look at all these moochers Mages have always been really powerful. They're really personal skill based, but they're always nice to have around, due to several factors. In PvE, they have very high DPS, with rogues only beating them in single target stuff, with a lot of survivability (being able to kite). They bring a lot to a group in the form of dps, reliable CC, water summoning, and portals. In PvP, its entirely skill based. Warlocks will be difficult, rogues and paladins are pretty much a 50/50, and anyone else you have a good chance against. You'll eat warriors alive. That being said, just play what you like, don't worry too much about guild class balance.

Vier posted:Not sure if I should reroll now No. Mages have, and always will be skill based. They have great burst and aoe damage, and some of the most useful utility spells in the game. The only issue they had back in Vanilla was the fact Raids in that time period were built around resists, and all your damage was Elemental based. As long as you bring an Arcane or a Frost spec to MC/BWL, and a Fire Spec to Naxx, you'll be just fine, and all our specs work very well. Hell, if I remember correctly, preTBC was when people started effectively using "Frostfire" specs, and abusing the hell out of mixing the dots/stuns/burst of Fire, with the slows of Frost, at the expense of top tier skills.

Vier posted:Look at all these moochers Only class that is "awful" are druids, and that's only PvE raids, and they still have an insanely useful skill in Innervate (but that's really the only thing they bring to a raid minus Mark of the Wild). Mages and rogues are top DPS (and mages are completely necessary for a boss in AQ40), fury warriors, hunters, warlocks fall behind that, but still aren't bad if played well. Paladins, Druids, Shamans, and Priests are almost entirely regulated to healing in raids, but in smaller group content (level 60 5 mans) even they can do okay DPS. Hell, in non-raid content, Shamans can actually function pretty well as a tank iirc. I don't know anything about how well druid tanks or paladin tanks work in non-raid content, but I would assume they do alright.

Willias posted:Only class that is "awful" are druids, and that's only PvE raids, and they still have an insanely useful skill in Innervate (but that's really the only thing they bring to a raid minus Mark of the Wild). Yeah, this is hilariously untrue although it was the generally held belief at the time. Feral druids became pretty powerful in 1.8, and were repeatedly buffed until 2.0 when they rightfully received a heavy nerf. I was raiding as a feral tank through 1.10-2.0, and was repeatedly told by our dps that I was the only tank they could really let rip from the first second of the fight with. I off-tanked MC, BWL, and the first half of AQ40 (along with ZG/AQ20) for my guild and frequently had to stop attacking so I didn't pull mobs off our MT. Feral druid scaling was pretty broken in this period due to the multipliers they got from forms and HotW. A crushing blow generally hit me for around the amount a regular hit damaged our MT since I was at the armor cap. Note however, we still had many warrior tanks since they do have far more tools than a druid, and certain fights were not viable for a druid tank at all due to various mechanics. Also, Blizzard didn't really make decent feral itemised gear until half way through TBC or so. Our top single-target dpser during MC at least was also a feral druid, though he was also a rank 13 PvPer, so probably outgeared a lot of our raiders until much later on.

Also Ricky, I have finished the audio. Since the file extension of the video was not very mac-friendly I had to make a terrible compressed .avi version of it to simply time the sound to it. If I sent the sound file to you, are you able to simply paste it over what you currently have? It should start exactly where the video starts.

Well we're going to try uploading it again since last time we put the music credits in the description, and I'm guessing that's the only way they could have detected it so fast. If that doesn't work I replaced some of the tracks to hopefully something UMG doesn't have their hands on.
