Steve Vader posted:Look at that. Somebody actually does watch Chelsea, after we included it and then disincluded it. I watch it sometimes if she has good guests on for the panel thing, like Chris Hardwick or Jen Kirkman or the Sklar brothers or something. Her show completely depends on good guests because she's not that funny by herself.

What do the people who say Conan has lovely writers think are the best parts of the show? The interviews? The monologue? Conan is a crap interviewer and pre-interviews are the bane of good conversation, and the monologue is exactly the same as the monologue you'll find on Leno, Letterman, Kimmel and Fallon. Yes that's partly the fault of his monologue writers, but it's as much due to Conan's insistence on religiously sticking to the late night talk show format. For me, the best parts of the show are always the sketches. They're the only parts that show that aren't just mechanically following the late night talk show formula and actually show some originality from the writers and individuality from Conan. It blows my mind that people think the problem with Conan's show is the writers. Yes, Craig Ferguson has totally ruined late night talk shows for me. They should give Andy his own show now that Lopez is gone. He could be the Craig to Conan's Letterman.

Good god Colin Quinn is painfully unfunny. I've never heard a Conan audience that quiet. At least he got in a poorly told Patton Oswalt joke I guess.

It's lame how they cut out the email segment of the Monday night show. You could even see the emails on the ground taunting us when Lucy Liu came out. At this point I mostly stop watching after emails, so it's especially annoying for me.

Last time I watched Conan (it's been a while), they had a running gag where they'd announce the same fake guest every night but always bump him. I can't think of the name. Did that lead to anything?

You know what I loving hate about late night talk shows that don't rhyme with The Nate Nate Thow with Braig Terguson? Pre-interviews, and the idea that the only way to "interview" guests is to have them recite some agreed upon story. It's such a total copout. It's just a way for the host to not have to bother to actually engage with the guest. And half the time the guests' stories are boring as poo poo, because guess what, not everybody has awesome, hilarious, incredible stories to tell. Even celebrities! I don't think Fallon does pre-interviews either but I'm not sure because I don't watch his show much. At any rate, Craig is the best interviewer of the lot by a giant margin because he talks to his guests like they're people. And he's not afraid to just talk about his own poo poo if the guest is dumb or just doesn't really know what to say (like Eliza Coupe, who is awesome in every other respect, but for some reason just clams up whenever she's on the show).

Yeah Conan is a crap interviewer. I've said this before, but I just wish he wouldn't adhere so religiously to late night show dogma and instead focus on the type of comedy he's good at. Most Conan episodes have maybe 10 minutes of good material, at most. Honestly, Craig has just ruined every other late night show for me. I didn't even realize that a late night show could be 100% hilarious from beginning to end before Craig got his show. I thought they all had to be like 75% lovely filler.
