I saw it last night too and loved it. His off-screen persona is so different from when he's on-screen. On his TBS show at least, and from the stuff they showed of his tour, he's pretty self-deprecating on stage a lot of the time. But off-stage, he has this huge ego all the time. It seems like it's mostly in jest, but sometimes you can't tell whether he's joking or not. I think one of my favorite parts was near the end. He introduces Nas and Damien Marley at Bonnaroo, and on the flight back home, he makes sure to remind everyone on the plane several times that he did so. He'll just randomly say to his personal assistant or to Jeff Ross (his producer) "Hey, did you know I introduced Nas and Damien Marley?" And he'd also fake talking to Nas and Damien Marley on his cell phone in front of everyone.

CaptainYesterday posted:Just pointing this out: there have now been as many episodes of Conan as was The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Holy poo poo, it's been on for that long already? Conan's Tonight Show run seemed much more memorable than this has so far, but I guess that's because he had a bigger budget and because his entire last week of shows was just him pulling the most ridiculous stunts he could and stuff like that. His current show isn't bad, but his run on the Tonight Show seemed a lot more grand.

Just FYI, tonight, Wednesday night and Thursday night, it looks like Conan comes on at 11 (12 Eastern). Tomorrow night, it comes on at its regular time (10, 11 Eastern). It seems baseball is pushing it back. At least, that's what my guide says.

Charlene Yi is on Conan yet again I've probably made this exact post before, but she's probably the guest that's been on Conan the most and I loving hate her every single time she comes on. She looks like an anime character and she always acts like some ADD-riddled child. How she keeps getting acting gigs is beyond me.

I wish when they came back for the 2nd part of Martin Short's interview, they would've switched to the mini-set and not even mention it, just conduct the rest of the interview as if nothing was amiss. That would've been amazing. Yeah, that was one of the Conan bits I laughed the hardest at in recent memory. I couldn't breathe at one point. Hopefully they'll keep them as recurring characters!

Dr. Atticus posted:So a girl named Kirby on Conan, just explained that Kirby was a superhero from a game called Super Smash Bros. Jesus. I saw this and couldn't believe it either. I was going to say that it must be because she was a toddler when the first Super Smash Brothers came out or something, but no, she was born in the same year as me (1990), albeit a few months later than me. I definitely remember playing Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby's Adventure well before Super Smash Bros. came out, when this girl and I were both 9 years old. She's just a dumbass

His remote bits are always the greatest parts of his shows. It doesn't even really matter where they are. From this week alone, the Irish history museum in the converted elementary school with the 6 different bars bit and the one where he went to the elementary school and taught the kids how to write blues songs about stuff that they don't like had me laughing my rear end off. And who can forget the classic bits like him going out into the woods to get boozed up and shoot guns with Hunter S Thompson? That poo poo is golden. He just can't get that caliber of material in a studio setting, I feel. Though I still love a lot of the stuff he does in studio. Like the entire last week he was hosting the Tonight Show, when he was just blowing NBC's money and doing completely ridiculous stuff...I'm pretty sure I laughed so hard I cried at multiple points during that week.

Forgot to post this after watching Conan's show last night, but goddamn, the family that rode motorcycles at 65MPH inside the globe of steel was loving insane What they were doing looked physically impossible. Conan seemed as blown away by it as I was. Also, it reminded me of that minigame from Dead Rising 2 where you have to do that except with chainsaws attached to your bike and the whole globe is filled with zombies.

DoombatINC posted:Brian McCann is one of the best things about all of Conan's shows. The moment I see him pop on I instantly start getting my giggles on. The skit on Conan's show that always makes me laugh the hardest, and I can't recall its official name right now, but it's the one where Brian McCann sings part of a popular song that's had its tune changed slightly and all its lyrics changed to synonyms of the originals and an audience member has to guess the original song it's based off of, then if the audience member gets it right, he/she wins some totally useless bullshit prize. It's always so goddamn hilarious to me, no matter how they change the song around. It's especially excellent when the new lyrics are too long for their respective sections in the song and run into others.

I think these Conan slow-mo clips are one of the best things they've done on this show in quite some time. Conan serving up a pie with a tennis racket and Andy getting pelted with chocolate. cream, nuts and more to make a "human sundae", all in slow motion, were loving fantastic.
