So I recently got into Weird Things the podcast, it's...honestly I don't know how to describe it, it's literally 3 dudes hanging around talking about weird things, often with some sort of zany roleplaying 'scenario' for two of them to work through to figure out what craziness happened.

Are there any more like that? Like, just super loose, near entirely unserious looks at bizarre things without falling into either "THE ALIENS ARE COMING BECAUSE MY CRYSTAL TOLD ME TODAY IN A DREAM" or "HEH you believe in a common superstition, loving ignorant plebe!"?

I started listening to Caustic Soda and Weird Things around the same time. Caustic Soda is loving great, they take one subject, deadly, gross or just odd things (tanks, explosions, parasites etc) and discuss all the aspects of it, history, pop culture, in the news and the guests they have are actually interesting/funny/have some sort of knowledge in the subject, whether its just someone who is really into the subject as a hobby, or an actual expert in the field.

Plus I think at least one of them is a goon.

I need to finish listening to Weird Things, but the fact that Spiro named his billy club Lil' Fudge after his partner Fudge.

Can any one recommend me some sciencey or learning stuff podcasts? I've been listening to some Radiolab and Monster Talk. I really loved the Radiolab episode they had on parasites.

Any thing like that would be pretty cool

Most of the shows on HowStuffWorks are great.

Stuff You Should Know - By far the best one. Good hosts, they aren't experts but they write articles for HowStuffWorks, and as a result actually do research. Twice a week they have a random topic. These past weeks have been: How Sword Swallowing Works. How Family Crests Work. How Acne Works. How The Moon Works. How Casinos Work.

Stuff You Missed In History Class - Like SYSK, but with usually lesser known history. Since the start they've changed a host every few months, and they've all ranged in quality. After listening to them all I'm happy with this current two girls who host.

Brain Stuff - Really short 1-2 minute episodes, a mix of all the shows on HowStuffWorks I guess.

Stuff To Blow Your Mind - You can tell by the name what its about. Like the other shows, except this one is about amazing/fascinating things.

That's all I've heard on HowStuffWorks, others are:

Astronomy Cast is a great one for astronomy, the hosts are actually experts in the field, they can speak and carry on banter with each other and keep it interesting, even if you know jack poo poo about space. Plus their names are Pamela Gay and Fraiser Crane.

Dan Carlin's Common Sense
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

A lot of people are split on Dan Carlin, some people find his delivery annoying, but I like it. He's a really well spoken guy, smart and very good at filling a show with just him talking about whatever subject.

Common Sense is his American political show. He knows he has non-American listeners, so he tries to make it accessible to everyone. If you aren't American, but have an interest in American politics it's still pretty listenable.

Hardcore History is his irregular history podcast. History isn't his profession, but it's his passion and it REALLY shows with the quality of shows he puts out. His last few episodes were the Fall of the Roman Empire. The first five episodes according to iTunes are 7.6 hours long, and the sixth episode is FIVE AND A HALF hours long, a total of 13 hours

Mysterious Universe is exactly what you want.

I like the show, but be warned though, you will get pissed off everytime they say "Coming up we also have (AWESOME SOUNDING SUBJECT THATS COOLER THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS EPISODE), but thats on the Plus show that you can subscribe to for $$$ a month."

That is unfortunately true. I think they deserve the $$$ a month.

If I could give money to every podcast I feel is deserving of being paid for producing their shows, I would be a poor, poor man.

I want to throw out some blanket recommendations.

Caustic Soda

Every week they take a topic about something dangerous, gross, scary or something like that and discuss all the aspects of it, recent news, pop culture, history. Last few episodes have been: Halloween, Axes, Flies/Maggots, Dystopias, Bacteria. The hosts are pretty knowledgeable in what they talk about, if not all of them at least one will be. When they do have guests they get ones who are usually experts/students in their field and will actually contribute to the conversation and often times, the guest will actually be funny.

My favorite guest episode is Near Earth Objects with Universe Today/Astronomy Cast host Fraser Cain.

The Complete Guide To Everything

Every week they take a topic and name an episode after it, and sometimes they even talk about it. Mostly it's a venue for Tom to talk about his mundane trips to Starbucks or Tim talking about getting a haircut. They don't pre-read anything, they aren't very smart, they argue all the time, they don't research anything and they always sound like they just had an argument before hitting record. Is it funny? HOLY poo poo YES. I'm constantly cracking up while listening.

My favorite episode is Holiday Movies, the first maybe 10 minutes of it are the funniest bit of podcasting I've ever heard. Then later they discuss how hosed up Home Alone 1 and 2 are.
