But I remember the fella who told me. Big lad. Arms as thick as oak trees, a stunning collection of scars, nice eye patch. A REAL therapist he was. Er wait. Maybe it was rapist?

Can anyone recommend anything along the lines of Hardcore History? I'm thinking in terms of tone rather than subject matter it doesn't have to be history specifically. Something that makes me feel like I've learnt something and won't cause me to fall asleep behind the wheel.

It doesn't quite fit the second criteria, as the speaker is quite subdued, but I very much enjoyed 12 Byzantine Rulers, a 19 part podcast detailing the rise and fall of the Byzantine Empire through 12 of its most influential rulers. Obviously being less than 20 parts at about 15-30 minutes a piece he wasn't able to go TOO in depth on the thousand year history of the Byzantine Empire, but the 12 rulers he chose to discuss in detail I found to be pretty entertaining and interesting. It helps that the Byzantine Empire was one of those topics that was, at least in my experience, rarely brought up in High School and only taught as part of a medieval history class in college.

It looks like the author also has another history podcast called Norman Centuries but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
