Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast, formerly Comedy Death Ray: The Podcast, is:

quote:

a high-spirited get-together between host Scott Aukerman (“Mr. Show”, Producer of “Between Two Ferns”) and his funny friends! You can expect conversation, music, improv, games, and most importantly plugs.

Here's your host:
The World Famous Scott-a-bot, Hot Saucerman, Scott Tabletop, Scott Clockerman, Scott Aukerlips, Scott Favabean, Skip Soccermom, et al -- Scott Aukerman!

Scott is famous for his work on "Mr. Show" and "Between Two Ferns" and he was also on "The Sarah Silverman Program" and "Children's Hospital" and "a lot of other poo poo" but he's mostly famous for writing because, well, look. He also co-runs the ever-expanding Earwolf.com which is home to a half-zillion other podcasts, some good, some not so much.

Here's where you click:
Earwolf
iTunes
RSS

Where to start with CBB?
That's kind of up to the thread to decide I guess, but to me - CBB is not a show that you need to know a lot of background on before getting into it. I started around episode 50 and listened to the ones with my favorite guests (Patton Oswalt, Paul F. Tompkins for starters) and once I decided I liked it I just sort of clicked at random until I was all caught up. I think that if you go in knowing that the show is basically a forum for comedians to play with character ideas and do absurdist improv, you know pretty much all you need.

Here are some things to click anyways though:

Brett Gelman's short story - iBrain (this got Brett BANNED from the show forever and ever)

Bob Ducca, Scott's ex-Step-Father, and his Food Allergies.

Fan favorite El Chupacabra takes some calls.

John C. Reilly and "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm have an ACT OFF.

What else?
poo poo, I don't know man! There are new episodes every Monday so let's start posting funny sentences from them!

This is my favorite show because it made me realize how loving funny Jon Hamm is. Also, how is there no Cake Boss clip in the OP

Couldn't find a strictly CBB clip, and the new Earwolf site doesn't make it easy to find a specific clip

They're kinda buried on the "blog" section at the Earwolf site, but Scott's How the Bread is Made articles are worth reading.

These are really funny, thanks for alerting me to their existence. I've always been really fascinated by the 'behind the scenes' stuff in movies and TV and apparently comedy podcasts too.

I'm actually surprised people didn't like the Alan Rickman episode. It definitely wasn't James Adomian's strongest performance, but I remember it made me laugh quite a bit.

BTW, you always have the best avatars, caveman.

The crazy folding in onto itself that happened in the end of that episode was probably my favorite ending ever. "I want my gold. Bye bye." was stuck in my head and cracked me up all day.

I always used to fast forward through the songs unless they were Lonely Island or Tenacious D. I kinda dug The Bangles (and the other folks who've been in-studio recently) but I absolutely hated one of the in-studio performances from some guy who's name I forget. It wasn't too super-long ago but I just looked through the episodes and didn't see him. His music was just super average whiney poo poo that a guy might play at a party but he couldn't sing.

And that's the story of that guy I didn't like who's name I can't remember.

Was it the Dillon whoever dude from the episode with Zach Galifianakis and PFT as Andrew Lloyd Weber? I just re-listened to it recently and had the same reaction.

yeah probably, was he bad at music? if he was bad at music it was him

Todd Barry is my Tig Notaro. I don't think he's funny, but other comedians worship the guy, so it's probably me.

The fact that you're willing to recognize that it's probably you disqualifies him from being your Tig Notaro, pick someone else and hate them irrationally and absolutely or get off pot.

I liked everything but his 2nd song. I was listening on headphones and that high pitched poo poo he did was all hosed up and terrible sounding, and it just kept going..

I think Aukerman had a falling out with the co-creator of CDR and decided to abandon the original name. I'm not sure if there were legal considerations behind the name change.

Just listened to it, and boy, I do not get the love in here for Paul. I like his stand-up alright, but take his written material away and he's got nothing. I think he chimed in all of twice in that whole hour, and then only to clarify some point of order for the old guys.

Doug's got a fun format for a game here, but he needs to get some comedians who are quick on their feet, maybe Joe Rogan or Carolla.

I dunno about the TV show. The fun of CBB is the spontaneity, but it seems like most of the interviews will be scripted bits.
The ALW 'stretching' part happened on the podcast previously. Hopefully not a lot more gets recycled.

I'm sure there will be a little more recycling than we as loyal fans would like to see, but the vast majority of it seems like it'll be new and I can't wait for more cut-scenes like when Scott went searching for Reggie
