Best running gag in Carnival Phantasm was Assassin making zero appearances. Also the cats of course.

You know, I have to hand it to Nasu; even though all the exposition kind of disrupts the story sometimes, there really is an interesting consistency to the rules. I'm not there yet, but I think I know how HF ends. Sakura's curse is because she has a contract with Angra Manyu. Caster's Rule Breaker can dissolve any contract. Shirou can project any weapon. So "all" he has to do is project Rule Breaker and sever the contract.

Good stuff. I think I'll call berserker being lancelot. Just getting that vibe from the ED picture.

Portable Staplefrog posted:I'm not sure if I should be looking forward to Fate/Extra or not. Has anyone here played it in Japanese? Well it's about a moon computer in another dimension simulating a grail war between over 100 masters. This is the least insane aspect of it. Also it apparently plays like a slightly crummier Persona game so I dunno. I preordered the LE already and am doomed to play it and all other Nasu titles so it doesn't really matter how retarded it sounds, I'm stuck.

From what I hear, it's a kinda crappy Persona clone with a really goofy plot, but Nasu did help provide the scenario so if all you want is some It's also apparently had a sequel confirmed recently, so it'll be around a while I guess. I know I'm going to buy it if for nothing else than the fact that I want to support the publisher with the balls to put out a spinoff game to a VN never released in America while not adding English voices.

Fate/Extra was just Nasu having fun with the script. From just the new excerpts I've seen it's very self-referential and light-hearted. But yeah it plays like Persona, right down to the School/Dungeon divide.

WickedIcon posted:Yeah, I just double-checked it with the LP. Me dumb. And Fate/Extra plays like Persona in a lot of ways, but the combat is pretty much glorified Rock Paper Scissors. It's a fun little diversion, even if I barely understood what was going on due to my Japanese skills being non-existent, but I'd only buy it if you really love Type-Moon stuff, and with the knowledge that you're playing it for the story and not the gameplay.

Speaking of Fate games, is Unlimited Codes any good? I saw it while browsing the PSN. Fake edit: What the hell is with these names? Luviagelita Edelfelt? It's like Nasu wanted to see if he could top Riesbyfe.

F/UC is a fighting game. It's not an overly good one, in terms of playing in competitively or looking at it objectively, but pretty much every character in the game is completely broken if you know how to do combos, meaning it's great to goof around with in practice mode, or with friends. Basically, it's a decent fighter but the world's best training mode.

Fate/Extra is worth playing for all the cool Servants. Hell, that's the only reason I'm gonna buy it, aside from being a Type-Moon fan and being impressed that a company decided to bring it over it in the first place. It's also probably the only Fate story that has an Archer who's actually known for being an archer. Hells yeah, Robin Hood.

Luvia is actually mentioned in HF True End, funnily enough (and of course appears a fair amount in HA and Prisma Ilya). But yeah no FUC is goddamn terrible, don't bother. As far as Fate Extra goes, it's dumb (especially the Servants), but could be cool, we'll see in November.

Was waiting for this anime to get off the ground as soon as I had heard that it was announced, and now that it's out, I was not disappointed. Haven't read the light novels, but I got the general gist of the plot during seorin's Let's Play of Fate/stay Night a year or so back. Spoiled myself on the Servants involved, but I only know generalities about the plot. First episode had me wanting more immediately after it ended, and the second episode lived up to the hype as well. Still, the Caster bit was unexpected and crazy. Cthulhu ftaghn indeed... The ED was also great if you know the identities of the Servants in question. Can't wait until next week for the next episode...
