Doug was 3 blocks from where I live doing DLM a couple months ago and I was stupid and didn't go. I've made it a point to see him since no matter what, and while listening to Rental Car V they mentioned Minneapolis (where I live) and said they would be here this Saturday. Guess what show is sold out!

I've never bought tickets for something that's sold out and I don't know how it works.. if I went 1-2 hours early and just waited outside would I eventually come across a ticket? I've searched craigslist and facebook marketplace with no luck

First you should check if the venue will have a waiting list. That way you can at least get in if someone buys a ticket and doesn't show up. Otherwise you'll have to rely on scalpers, and I have no idea what scalping is like in Minneapp.

Just walk by the line about an hour prior to the show asking if anybody has extra tickets.

I do this for sold out concerts all the time. Sometimes you might even pay below the face value!

Thanks I'll check that out. Also are these type of shows the kind of crowd that would have people outside scalping.. or does that also fully depend on the city?

Sometimes people with extra tickets tweet the stand-up directly and the stand-up retweets the message, so that's one more option.

Definitely seen PFT do it, pretty sure Doug has too (@DougBenson). Hell, maybe just tweeting Doug the problem directly will work somehow.

No, it's just that I live in Los Angeles, where you can ALWAYS find scalpers for big shows. Not sure if Doug Benson is that big though...

I asked him in his AST q&a thread about tickets and I'm stupid haha. The one that was sold out was a 20th anniversary for the club (that he is in) and DLM is before that at 4:20 with tickets still available. Looks like i'm going! I just need to think of a nametag and make it before saturday...

10,000 Cunts

You know, when refreshing my downcast this morning, I noticed "Cake Boss" (cake boss) was listed and just figured it was a Comedy Bang Bang early this week. I'm so excited that it's a DLM. Can't wait to hear it.

Also, I just realized CBB never has the name of the characters that are on, just the name of the comedians. That should have tipped me off too.

Although, I do prefer Paul F. Thompkin's "Iced T" to Cake Boss. The Ice T/Jesse Ventura episode of Comedy Bang Bang will always be my favorite.

Is this the one that precedes the rule that negative names are in order of billing, so that Pardo is stuck on a category called Cary Grant Movies, or something like that, and spends like 10 minutes trying to come up with a fourth negative name when he hasn't said "Carey Grant" yet? Cause that was funny and insane as all hell. The audience was going berserk and Doug is just screaming "THIS IS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN NOBODY SAY A loving WORD!!"

Also, besides being really funny, Adam Scott is killer at the Maltin game.

There are a million reasons to ruin things.

I'm in LA for my sister-in-law's wedding so the wife and I decided to attend a DLM at the UCB theater last night. It was pretty fun-- not a lot of meandering conversation, and a pretty interesting Maltin game. No one picked my crappy hotel comment card/nametag, but I wasn't too sad.

Funnily enough, I saw Paul F. Tompkins getting gas a couple of blocks away as I was walking toward the theater, and other people in line saw Ken Marino, Sam Rockwell and Justin Long in the area, but none of them were in the show.

This game that they play during the one-on-one podcasts, where they match the beginnings and end of titles, is extremely annoying. How can anyone find listening to that enjoyable?

Build-a-Title sucks because either you don't know a lot of movie titles and it's boring or you do know a lot of movie titles and are annoyed at the ones they're overlooking. Fun to play, but not fun to listen to.

I'm in the first category, so it's boring (but also annoying). That doesn't happen with the Leonard Maltin game because there is always enough banter to keep it fun for people who don't know movie trivia.

This is very much true. It's annoying because you can't participate. I do love the audience's excitement escalating as it gets longer, that's always fun, but I generally find it a waste of time.

I do love his "Watch This, Not That". It's a funny little bit.

The latest episode was all right. I'm a sucker for TJ Miller and how he gets under Doug's skin. It dragged a bit in the middle, but the Maltin game was pretty great.

The Scream category is amazing.

I like it because it reminds me of the word games on NPR on Sunday morning. I like trying to think ahead of the players, but don't get annoyed if they don't get something. A couple of weeks ago they had one that I'd figured out how to connect in a loop. Can't remember what it was, but it was a fun moment.

Awful two ways, often. They not only don't know a lot of titles, but they don't realize that it's basically improv -- the thing's only fun if you facilitate a longer title. On the most recent "Rental Car" episode, there were multiple points where an obvious name could've kept things going, but the guest picked some strange dead end title to prove the length of his movie dick.
