Hand loaded .308, Christine's rifle, head shots. Add to that list "A fuckton of drugs" for Rawr, and the little freaks don't even get a chance to move at me. For added hilarity, hit them with like a .22 to get them mad, then blast them with the Flare Gun when they get close. Then kill them with a real weapon as they run in terror.

For those that like to snipe deathclaws with Christine's silenced sniper rifle, I find AP rounds to work 1000x better than normal rounds.

If you don't rock out your Repair skill and only use the stuff you can buy, true that. At a certain level of innate gun damage, hand load is *always* better than AP though. Depends on the particular round how much damage that is. In the case of Christine's rifle, the .308 hand load is the better option. Even if someone wanted to make a semi-retarded chimp character, if that character focuses on Guns/Energy weapons it's a cool idea to grab Repair/Science to make the stupid good ammo.

Time to check out the new guns and ammo and see what the most brutal pistol is, so I can finally do that "one gun" run I've been meaning to get to.

The Courier's Stash pretty much gives you everything you need to walk straight to Vegas, and gently caress *everything* that gets in your way. I personally am a fan of the Caravan portion of it. The leather armor, the shotgun, the repair kits? Throw some slugs in that shotgun and use a repair kit to fix up the machine gun in Doc Mitchell's house for instance, and that's like a thousand caps right there. If you happen to have high Luck [You got shot in the head and buried alive, and walked it off. You should have high Luck], you can bust the Vicki and Vance. And then the Atomic Wrangler. And then all the other casinos.

At which point you can set yourself up.

E: And that's just playing it straight, if you use/sell all the free crap you get with all the packs, you don't even need to stop at Primm.

Lever action with Cowboy and Shotgun Surgeon is pretty choice. You do drat near as much damage as the Riot Shotgun, and you are firing faster.

If you absolutely love a certain idea, but are stuck against the fact that certain weapons become unworkable later on, you can always get the Signature Weapons mod. It's unbalanced as poo poo if used on a powerful weapon, but if you use it on a straight razor you can legitimately have a dude that kills Deathclaws with one.

Or pay the 10 caps for some snake on a stick and avoid having to put points into an otherwise completely useless skill.

Survival gives you:

1. Them's Good Eatin', which turns *everything* alive into free healing.

2. Some drat fine Light Armor, pre-expansions [And even post-expansions it's still one of the better armors for it's class].

3. Buffs that aren't easy or possible to get anywhere else.

4. Poisons, which can make large sections of the game trivial for certain builds really early.

So it's not a *needed* skill, but for certain playstyles there is a lot to get out of it.

A Light Shining in the Darkness with hand loaded ammo is basically the Easy Bake Oven of making motherfuckers dead. Even a child could completely depopulate the Legion in seconds.

e: I mean obviously a really big rifle type thing like the YCS or the AMR will kill people from a million miles away with one shot to the head, but for actual real people weapons, it's pretty choice.

Combat drugs can easily double or triple your effective stats in all ways in the short term. You will hit harder, *get* hit softer, attack faster, regenerate AP like a demon, and just generally be a super human. For a tight spot, they can put "This may not be possible" over the top into "Cakewalk".

OWB is pretty much New Vegas' "NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY UNLESS YOU'RE A DOPE" DLC for the game.

It is and it isn't: Of course it's all big joke on 50 monster movie science fiction and all that, and just general silliness, but the overall point is that the Think Tank is largely filled with completely amoral and inhuman monsters who could ravage what is left of humanity if let loose, and Mobius is trying his hardest to protect the world from them. Of course he's largely succeeded, and they aren't all *that* unhappy about the state of affairs, so it's not as sad as it could be.

There is ED-E with LR, and then there is every other companion in the game. That is the scale of effectiveness. If the fucker could make a campfire with his laser, he would literally be the only thing you'd absolutely positively want to get every single time.

So what are the tips for fighting that gigantic gently caress off Deathclaw in TLR?

Honestly? Remembering that he's just a Deathclaw like any other, and hitting him with the flare gun every so often. Then kill him with whatever you want. Melee more of a bitch, because you have to catch up to his running away rear end and that wastes time while he's on fire. Second the fire goes out he'll hit you, and it's physically impossible to take more than I think....3 shots from him. And that's with all relevant drugs and Perks and the like. Most characters will be one shot.

So yeah, most sane people shoot him with a very large gun, in the face, very far away.

I think I made the right choice.

Killing Caesar may involve killing Vulpes too. So that's potentially three right there. The next easiest things are freeing the Powder Ganger slaves or the troops in Nelson. Both give you +2 each.

It's half a year if you make good time and have relatively paved roads/worn forest paths. With the conditions they are dealing with you'd be lucky to do it in a year.
