Or maybe there's a dual-wielding mod out there?

On the topic of quality, was anyone else a little disappointed that General Oliver didn't get a unique voice actor? Or at least a unique voice? The first time I played I was honestly expecting something more impressive from him, but then he turned out to be that generic NPC I met in several other places in the wasteland. Not even one of the better ones.

But I guess that's just nitpicking at this point.

On a side note, there are some voices that, despite recurring in different characters, I always associate with the first of those characters I met. The voice I now refer to as "the Cliff Briscoe voice," for example.

So I just experienced a rather creepy bug.

I had a fistfight with Jeannie May Crawford, then cannibalized her corpse and stole her safe key from her body. Went to the safe and took a few things out of it, but when I closed it, I heard her yell "thief!" behind me from where her body was on the floor, and I lost Novac rep.

Based on that and her voice, I'm pretty sure she's some kind of demon-witch. It's canon now.

Pretty good video. And while I agree with the points that he made, I feel like his argument could have been stronger if he had used at least one more example question in addition to "what do they eat?" Granted that would have made the video even longer and less people would watch it, but he spent ten minutes setting up the point he was trying to make, so why not add an extra five actually making the point? Like, I agree almost completely with his opinions on the two games in question, but I feel like his argument wasn't quite complete before he ended the video, because to an uninformed person it might look like he was cherry-picking his information. Just sort of a shame, I guess.

As far as gaming in general, the Shandification he mentioned is definitely good for some games, but I think gaming would probably benefit from having a solid mix of Shandified stories and more cinematic stories. (What I have in mind is the Uncharted series, which played out very much like movies. They were pretty great, and while I wouldn't want all of my games to be that way, it's nice to have some variety.)

But I can't imagine there are many people who would disagree.

Speaking of haunting, I can't remember if I linked this or not...

Anyway, after a while of just killing and devouring everyone in my path, this started happening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGug2oeQ54Y
I'm pretty sure they were haunting me. (I love the bugs in this game)

But while I'm posting, I should mention that probably one of my favorite aspects of this game is just the 'planning' portion before each playthrough where I talk up an idea with one of my friends. This one was especially fun, I think. http://pastebin.com/6LrttbLA

Additionally, when I entered Honest Hearts once, the title font seemed larger than usual. I decided to reload to before entering (for some reason I don't recall anymore) and the next time the font was even larger and less of the slide content was on screen. So I kept doing that and it turns out the "camera" was just kind of zooming in closer each time. No idea why and it hasn't happened since.

The currency discussion inspired me to look up the various currencies in the series on the wiki. I hadn't actually noticed the designs on the Legion coins before.

I find it interesting that this one still has Joshua Graham on it despite everyone being forbidden from even mentioning him. I mean, I guess realistically they can't recall all the coins and melt them down and re-press them with a new design, but you'd think it might spark some discussion as to who the people on the coin are.

But what I find more amusing is how the image of the three people, when compared to the hand-drawn images on the rest of the coin sides, is pretty clearly a screen of three in-game models wearing generic in-game clothing, filtered over to look like embossed metal. :haw:

Not that I blame them for taking the shortcut, it'd be a waste of resources to draw more than necessary for something so small (I never noticed it until now, for instance).
But to me it just looks silly if you stare at it for too long.

I honestly don't understand how people can actually let feelings and morality keep them from experiencing so many parts of the game, especially with how many times I've heard people in this thread say they've tried to side with the Legion but just couldn't condone it and switched sides.

Like, I get that they're the big bad evil guys and all, but when I play a game, I generally suspend any gut reactions or moral judgement in favor of variety and exploration. I guess there's nothing wrong with acting on your instinct the first time through, but to be unable to remove yourself from those impressions in subsequent playthroughs just seems strange to me.

Or maybe I just play this game too much.

Maybe it's because I had not played Fallout 3 before this and so I was unfamiliar with what you can be capable of even at early levels, but the first time I walked into Nipton, my reaction was "poo poo, I'm really outnumbered, it would probably be pretty stupid not to play along with these guys." Not so much "this injustice shall not stand, I must kill you all now."

TacticalUrbanHomo posted:

I managed to sufficiently rationalise everything to get myself in the mindset to side with the legion, for a while I was actually convinced they had poo poo right and I'm not entirely convinced they don't
I'm not arguing that you have to agree, even temporarily, with what the Legion stands for, just that you should be able to suspend that judgement in order to experience that side of the story at least once.

It's the same to me with the people who say "well House is clearly a delusional totalitarian dictator so I never side with him" or "the Boomers are murderers so I always just kill them." Maybe it's just me, but the four endings are part of what makes this game so replayable. I'm sure it's natural to have a favorite faction to side with, but I generally just cycle through them each time I get inspired to play the game again. I don't really get how you can feel so strongly against a character or group in the game that you just absolutely cannot side with them.

On my first playthrough of this game (I had never played Fallout 3 or any game as expansive as this before) I logged over 100 hours on that file alone. I was pretty amazed by it.

But one thing that struck me was that, when I finally decided it was time for me to start moving to the actual endgame quests, the music at Hoover Dam was so different from the rest of the game. I later learned that this was because it's one of few tracks that aren't from earlier Fallout games, which are really more ambiance than music to begin with. So when I heard the Hoover Dam theme, I found myself asking "where was this the whole game?" I think that theme, combined with my ridiculous 100+ hour leadup to it made the end of the game feel that much cooler to me.

It had also been that long since I had seen the introductory cutscene to the game, and since I had actually explored the whole wasteland that it spanned, I had much better context to understand where everything was taking place. It felt that much more impressive because of it, I think.

The first time I played the game though, I actually sat down for a while with a reference of what the best moves were based on your hand and the dealer's. I almost started to memorize some of it. I didn't mean that there's a surefire way to "beat the system" or that it would even give you a majority chance of winning.
I suppose by admitting that my source is wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackjack#Basic_strategy) I'll be making myself look more foolish than if I had cited some card-counting book, but apparently the theory is that there is an ideal bet/fold/forfeit strategy for each hand that will "minimize" your losses, i.e. you get maybe a 49% chance of winning at best. It's better than going in betting all willy-nilly, but probably not by much.

It's fun to think that I could, in a sense, maximize my odds, but you are certainly correct in that the house will always have the advantage, and I'm not deluding myself in that regard.
